The 25 Greatest Moments in TMNT History (article by me)
The 25 Greatest Moments in TMNT History
The guys at the Transformers Archive did a similar article involving their 25 favorite moments in Transformers history, so I thought I'd do my own version with the Ninja Turtles. I tried to include a little something from every version: the various comics, the cartoons and the movies. The comics being my favorite aspect of the franchise garnered the most numbers, of course. Its a heckuva a read, mind you, so it's no skimpy "list". Spent my entie day off from work on it, totaling about 8 hours and 17 Word pages. Anyhow, I thought I'd share. |
Great concept, man!
EDIT: Wow, you really put some work into this! Some of your top 10 surprises me. But it looks like a very enjoyable read. |
Very nice list. I feel in your descriptions you're a bit too critical and harsh about some aspects of the franchise, but I appreciate the, "I recognize these flaws in a franchise I love," rather than giving everything blind praise.
The most shocking thing the old toon did was definitely Shredder blowing up the Channel 6 building. After 7 seasons it was practically an icon of the show, and to see it destroyed and *not* have it magically re-appear in the next episode was something shocking. I think I was only 11 or something back when Season 8 was airing, and even then it was a shock to me. |
This was a Fantastic read... I'd definitely recommend everyone to take a look. :)
|
Excellent, I really enjoyed reading that. Thanks
|
I am really impressed with this. Not one of these moments, would I shelf from the list. Sure, I might have put them in a bit of a different order, but they all belong here.
The only major thing I would have had differently, was placed Raph punching Hitler somewhere on the list. |

Damn you, good sir, for being an amusing and great writer. I :tlol:'d, :tcry:'d, shouted "WTF!" and threw my mouse across the room, but overall I enjoyed your piece.
Great job! :tthumbsu::tthumbsu::tthumbsu::tthumbsu: On a small side note: veneer, quirk, and wacky. That is all. :tgrin: |
Massive brownie points for including the Raph vs Leo fight from the 4th film. And when Klunk died I think i got really teary eyed. Or maybe I cried >.> Things that just kill me. Children dying and animals dying. Gets me every time.
|
Great job! :tthumbsu: That was really enjoyable to read :)
|
That was great! Lots of laughs, & lots of near tear moments with the sad memories that come with certain stories.
|
I'm running out the door to catch a bus, so I haven't given your article the full read through that it so very clearly deserves. BUT! I did want to post in with HUGE kudos for the section headings alone.
You Sir, are a freakin' riot. |
Normally I wouldn't spend 8 hours writing an article in one day, but the Shell-ebration ends tomorrow, so I was under a time crunch.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed it! :) |
DrSpengler, THANK YOU so much. I might not completely agree with your selection, but it was beautiful to read. This franchise is so lucky to have people like you in the fandom.
|
Awesome nice cool work!!! Thanks a lot for share!!! I enjoy reading this work....Recommended!!
|
Very good article.
Hell, I might even print it out just so I can re-read it from time to time. Yes, I enjoyed it that much. :) |
I'm not usually one for Top X lists, but this one is really darn good. Can't say I disagree with anything on the list, at least when it comes to the moments I know of. Superlative job, Dr. Spengler.
|
Holy crap! That thing is long. xD
I'll have to save it to read later, but I'm sure it's gonna be awesome just lookin at the thing. Again - Holy. CRAP. Great work Doc. |
Sweet article. I can't disagree with any selections because I can't imagine making a top 25 like that lol.... Except I was expecting at least one moment from the old Konami games. Then again, nothing you picked really deserves to be bumped by a boss fight or somthing from a beat-em-up.
|
And I just finished reading it, and I must say that you have single-handily made me want to read the comics (not just the Mirage ones either) even more than I already did. That, is a feat that I didn't think possible. I'd take my hat off to you but I don't wear hats.
I hope you do other articles, be they TMNT related or not, this dedicated in the future. They're sure to be great reads. |
Very interesting.
Shows you are a big Tristan fan. He has come a long way and is doing an awesome job. The movies did get Casey Jones right. But I still think my fave Casey is from 2k3. |

He was turned into too much of a bumbling oaf intended to elicit cheap laughs with his ineptitude and it got really annoying. They basically neutered the character of everything that made him interesting and boiled him down to a shell of his worst qualities all for the sake of lame comedy relief. The writers seemed to realize this and rectified their mistake by Season 4, returning him to the competent (if not too bright) vigilante he was in season 1. |
I wonder if anybody's got the stones to do a thoughtful, proper "25 worst" list that's not just full of generic, broad entries like "derrr... all of vol. 4" or "smash up cuz there's no bebop or rocksteady."

Brilliant list, Spengler.
I don't know about a 25 Worst Moments list. One man's meat is another man's garbage... I think it'd be a pretty polarizing affair. |
As was pointed out, even my 25 Greatest article was fairly...cynical.
I didn't want it to be a gushing lovefest so I made sure to include some chiding where applicable. A 25 Worst article would be nothing but pure venom and, I dunno, that's a tad mean-spirited, even for me. After all, I know that some of the Mirage guys do check out my site from time to time... |

It basically depends what is seen as a mistake that should have never happened, not simply "disappointments," which means it could have been great, but wasn't so hot, like the recent Donatello: Brain Thief mini-series by Jim Lawson. |

Lol see? One man's meat is another man's garbage.
Oooor they just don't know what they're talking about. |
Arctic region
The Tehcnodrome ended up in the Arctic region, not Antarctica.
|
After going over it again, the only problem I have is that Turtles Forever was way too low.
|
This was amazing. You were really firing on all cylinders here. A great, pan-canon list.
And I can see that we enjoy the series for a lot of the same reasons. It wasn't a list full of the most bad-ass ninja moments. It included plenty of the down-to-earth, and self-aware humor moments as well, which are honestly the best parts of Turtles to me. The only things I felt were absent were the final panels of "City at War," and April's origin issue. The former, I feel is definitely an oversight, as it's the only true ending the Mirage comics have seen, and a great one. The latter, I can forgive because I understand how controversial it was. (But, I maintain, very well-handled). That, and "Leonardo Lightens Up." Hallmark episode for sure. EDIT - I also feel like you could've sparred a Tristan issue to make room for "Blind Faith"/"Blind Sight." But it's your list. |
Someone meantioned this recently so I went back and read it.... amazing! What an emotional read...
|
I'm really enjoying this article, dude! I like how you refer to each cartoon series by the companies that made them (Fred Wolf and 4Kids) instead of saying OT and "2k3" like everyone says for some odd reason.
