Who here likes the "Dragon Ball-Z-GT" Series? 8)

GK Punk 03-25-2003 09:49 PM

Haven't Seen GT yet, I'd probably dig it though... I wasn't to down for Z, but I liked the original DB Series. been years scince Ive watched any of it though

Nickokapo 03-25-2003 10:36 PM

I love dragonball and dragonball gt...dragonball z...well i was hooked back then when it aired here, but it can be tiresome sometimes.
Of course im refering to the subbed version and southamerican version...say NO to funimation ;p
But yeah, if there's 3 anime that i used to watch when i was a kid that now are classics for me are:
Saint seiya (knights of the zodiac)
DB/Z/GT
And bssm.

Greed 03-25-2003 10:44 PM

I still like it but is a little boring 10eps. = 1fight

Nickokapo 03-25-2003 10:46 PM

I agree with slash, that's why i say dragonball z is tiresome sometimes, they stretch fights too much.
It has its moments tho, i still think it's an awesome series.

Greed 03-25-2003 10:50 PM

Not to mention all the movies are very simaliar they fight they lose they come back they win in short

lol yeah, that's why I was never so down for it.. I mean it's alright, and Im not going to bash anyone who likes it... but Ive seen better shows.

You know, the last battle in sailor moon lasted almost 10 episodes if I remember right... i know it lasted a LONG time... I kept waiting for it to end, but all the characters kept dying... it was very odd for that show

Nickokapo 03-25-2003 11:44 PM

Heh...yeah...characters died a bunch of times in sailor moon :teek:
But at least not as much as dragonball z, in that one every character and his dog died and got resurrected

Last season of sailor moon that happened
In Stars, during the battle with Galaxia, the only characters living untill the VERY end of the show, was the Star Lights, and Princess Serenity. (She fought the last battle as Serenity)

Nickokapo 03-26-2003 12:01 AM

Yup!And i think the senshi die in the first season too, but then get resurrected and dont remember what happend as they go back in time.
As for the dbz movies, i like em, specially the fusion one, it has some funny bits like when they fuse into that fat guy that bounces around and farts :D tho the highlights were the fights (what did ya'll expect?this IS dbz :p ) but the animation was better than the regular tv series one as its with most anime movies/oavs.
So there, i liked the movies :D

Yeah that's right, they get offed by Metallia's henchwomen one by one... I think the storyline was once Metallia and Beryl were destroyed, all the things they did were reversed.

and yes, the animation was MUCH better in the movies! But then again, DBZ *IS* almost 20 years old... what do you really expect?

Nickokapo 03-26-2003 12:10 AM

True...the animation is kinda dated and it shows...but i like old anime anyways.
No...not that old, i cant stomach 60s' anime, they might be classics or whatever, they're just not my thing...what i mean is 80s (mostly late 80s yknow 86-89) and 90s anime.

right, I like stuff like, Mazinger, Gatchaman, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball etc... I do like some of that older stuff too though.. like Gigantor, astro boy

Nickokapo 03-26-2003 12:24 AM

There's so many old anime i like, sm, db/dbz, ghostsweeper mikami, slam dunk, yoroiden samurai troopers (ronin warriors), saint seiya...the list goes on.
I do like old anime like mazinger z (in fact i think thats from the 70s but still) and astroboy, but that's about it.
OMG and how i could forget gatchaman!Tho the version i saw seemed to be cut, it was called g-force  yes, evil dubs sometimes strike south america too. :P

hhehehe, I think G-Force was actually slightly correct compared to the other Gatchaman translations... other than the names ofcourse! Mazinger, I do believe is from the 70s, I know it aired here in the US under a different name in the 80s... Tranzor Z I THINK is what it was called.. GS Mikami? That JUST came out over here! can you believe that? Ive never seen Saint Seiya, does it come recomended?

Nickokapo 03-26-2003 12:55 AM

Well i always thought saint seiya was a very good anime, but then there's people already comparing it to dbz  to me, the plot was MUCH better in saint seiya, and there werent so many episodes...but i think you should judge for yourself.
As for mikami...are they airing it in america already? That's awesome! All i've ever seen of it in america was a dvd release of the movie.

lol actually, you're right I do stand corrected... it was just the one release.. I dont know why I thought it was more!

That Matt Guy 03-26-2003 02:11 AM

I tried to watch Dragon Ball Z once, but as soon as all the characters turned into giant gorillas I had to turn the TV off and go dry heave.

Barkworm 03-26-2003 02:16 AM

The Manga is alot better than the boring show. In the Anime there are so many filler episodes, which are just awful. But I agree that DB is not the brightest manga

Well any Japanese anime/manga makes me want to drive my car 190 MPH into a brick wall.

Barkworm 03-26-2003 03:38 AM

Then you have propably not watched a lot of animes...

Lanagirl 03-26-2003 03:44 AM

what is this sailor moon about? :-?

Nturtle 03-26-2003 07:33 AM

Yay!!! I love Dragonball!!!!!!!!!
The Dragonball anime is my favorite though, I don't really lke the anime of Dragonball Z as much, the manga is incredible though, Toriyama is amazing!!! :o
My problem with Dragonball Z is the outragous amount of power and explosions, Dragonball is less chaotic in that regard. Also after Freeza saga things got too weird!! Super Sayian 3? :dead:
But the Sayian and Freeza sagas are amazing!!!!!!!!!

Casey Jones 03-26-2003 08:05 AM

i liked original Dragon Ball alot. Z was cool sometimes. i really dug the android eps. but after tehy killed Cell i had trouble getting into it again. i don't care for GT much at all.

Voltron 03-26-2003 01:56 PM

Everybody knows that Z was the best. DB was very good as well. GT however....well how can I put this....uhhh...ummmm.....su...SUCKED! there we go, it sucked. It was created by a corporation so that it could harvest more money from the cash cows that were DB and DBZ. Trust me, DBGT is the WORST. It was really stupid. The only cool parts were Goku and Vejita combined attacks..

As for Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is ok for the first season. Sailor Moon R is good, too. (Nice Story). Everything else concerning that show was horrible. They dragged it into the street and shot it in the head.

Lanagirl, it's about alien teenagers who don't know they are super powered princesses of other planets in the solar system. This is made clear to them by talking cats so that the girls can become huge chested sailors with super natural powers to fight people from other dimensions. It was cool for the first two series, but then it got stupid. Sorry, it just did.

Yeah dragonball gt wasnt very succesful...i'm one of the few who liked it because of the animation quality and the plot got a bit different which i liked for a change, but i can understand why most people didnt like it, not only it wasnt made by toriyama himself, most people consider the first part of gt boring.

Actually, The Final season was By far the best. (did you even see Stars? it never aired here in the states) The art got better, the story telling flowed better, and the characters where already established... Otherwise I agree, Sailor Moon, and Sailor Moon Returns were good, S was kinda ok, and SuperS was crap. Big Chested? That's funny, 'cause we always joked about how they looked flat chested and long legged  but yeah, Naoko Takeuchi (the woman who created the series) actually wanted the characters to have more of a sexual side to them, but the producers and editors wouldn't allow it. I always found that funny, that the women wanted the series more perverted than the men did

And they wern't really aliens, they were reincarnated as Girls from earth, with the ability to activate the Sailor Soldiers inside them, just incase anyone from the dark moon decided to attack.

Nturtle 03-26-2003 03:30 PM

I can't say I liked what I've seen of GT, doesn't have Toriyama-san's touch to it!! :dead:

I'll do it, but only if you are in front of the brick wall.

lhb412 03-26-2003 08:42 PM

I like Dragon Ball and the first season of DBZ (the saiyan saga) but now it's just not really intresting to me, I watch it when nothing else is on.
But is it just me or is Vegita's character totally gone, He was always a jerk and difficult to work with but now he's a regualr do-gooder, removing the fun part of his chracter.

Duke 03-26-2003 11:01 PM

I used to watch dragonball z. I really liked the show especially the sayian and Freeza sagas. But i never really got into the show after the cell saga ended. But i agree Vegeta's character really changed. I mean he went from a dark soul to a regular do-gooder.

"Quiet boy! Where is your honor? Kakarot, like all pure blooded sayians, would rather die trying then win with one of those disgraceful sensu beans as his crutch!" Vegeta from the cell games saga

Shellfox 03-27-2003 09:18 AM

And it now appears CN is removing it from the line up in favor of Zoids

Nturtle 03-27-2003 09:45 AM

They are???!!!! :o :o :o :o
Well I just checked the line up in May and it looks like are :dead:
I hate zoids :flaming:
Fortunetly it looks like they will still have G Gundam by then, another great show
But they cut out Dragonball and now they only show it on Saturdays at 11!!!!
What were they thinking?! The best part of the eries is comming up, the Piccolo Daimao saga

Mikey the Party Turtle 03-28-2003 06:50 PM

The manga is great, but the anime isn't. Some good moments with some good songs, but they add too much to the fights. The fight with Freezer didn't even last like five issues, but in the anime, it's like thirty friggin' episodes. GT, I'm not going to even bother watching it, I already seen a few episodes, and it sucks. Without Toriyama's guidance, the show falls flat on it's face. :|

cqb101 03-28-2003 07:35 PM

Dragonball iis by far the best of the three and I actually like GT. DBZ was good until the Freeza saga ended and then it was the same over and over again. I like GT because it isn't anything like DBZ or DB. And because Pan is pretty cool.

If I remember correctly, Toriyama wanted to ended the series witht he Freeza saga, but Toei(?) coaxed him to keep on going. But you can tell he was already bored and out of ideas.

Oh...i thought it started airing in america and i didnt find out :D well i think manga entertainment does have the rights to the series but havent done anything with it, then again im not sure, it might only be the movie's right.

Same here, it was different (who would want more of the same when there were already around 300 episodes of that stuff?I would :P but...if this makes you guys any happier at the half of the series the fights start, they go super sayajin 4...and such...sigh :p )
I also liked pan too :D
As for the dragonball z manga...i've only read a couple of issues but it was good, i'm more of a fan of anime rather than manga so of course i prefer the anime, even though the filler episodes get tiresome.

One Radical Dude 03-28-2003 07:58 PM

I enjoy DB/Z. This is when I started to get into the Anime thing (DB wasn't my first anime I ever saw, though). The DBZ dub was very bad, especially during the Freeza Saga (that's when FUNimation decided to leave Canada, and go to TX. Therefore, the VAs from Vancouver did not do the voices anymore, they hired new people.) The first seasons had a lot of editing, but had better acting (in my opinion, anyway).

Anyhoo, I'm one of those people that prefer the animated series over the Manga (in most cases), even though I understand why a lot hate the Anime.

Nickokapo 03-28-2003 08:15 PM

At last, someone that prefers the original :P
And yeah i forgot to mention akira toriyama himself got sick of dragonball z at some point, probably the friezer saga according to you guys, and started writing bad episodes with the intent that he would get fired (he was sick of dbz already :p ) but people loved it and it went on for a crapload more episodes.
So i don't see why you guys are so worried about toriyama not being involved in gt, the guy would've tried to ruin gt (i dont blame the guy tho :embarass: )
Then again, that could've been good...weird :p
