The color bandana choices, do the colors they chose fit?

This is not about the Turtles all having red bandanas, there's a thread in the movie section about this. I'm asking do you think "they" chose the right colors to reflect the Turtles?

"Blue" seems to have a boyish leadership quality for it, so it fits Leonardo.

"Red" is the color of blood, rage, fire, etc. which fits Raph's personality.

"Orange" is a fun-loving color, so it fits Mike's carefree attitude.

"Purple" was associated with royalty and intelligence, which fits Donatello.

I imagine "green" wasn't chosen as it would blend in with the Turtles skin too much, "Brown" would have been too dull for kids, "Yellow" would be too bright, and "black" sort of has a dark or evil vibe for it, so it fits Slash better. Also, pink is a girls color, so no.

Overall I think they made good decisions.

All said... now tell me about Benvenuto white...

A turtle with a white bandana :-?

Wisdom :D

Candy Kappa 03-27-2010 05:29 PM

it was a nice choice of colors they did their job differentiate the turtles (2 primary colors and 2 secondary colors), which with NM Venus bandanna, they was very lazy giving her light blue. think black would have been a negative color for a children's show.
Black went eventually to slash since he was the evil turtle.

I guess they did not take yellow since it would look weird having all 3 primary colors and 1 secondary color, they could have given one of the turtles white since that's the primary colors mixed up in the additive system

April O'Neil in the Archies became a mutant Turtle with a white bandanna.

What is up with peoples bandannas obsessions? And pink is not a girly color, it is VERY MANLY! Only a true man would wear pink, others would wimp out.

...manly pink.

Spacebabie 03-27-2010 11:25 PM

I always thought white was pure and innocent.

I wonder what Indigo meant.

Mike & Don originally had eachothers colors if I'm not mistaken.

Probably thought April's yellow jumpsuit was enough yellow for everyone. Though I remember as a kid sometimes Mikey would have a yellow bandana with cheap merchandise print jobs and it just didn't look "right".

Ah good ole Donut.

I have to say I'm not a big fan of April's Turtle Form.

vincent27 03-29-2010 12:07 AM

Thank you TMNT_guy :D
I agree with Spacebabie, April's Turtle Form is weird since she looks like too the other turtles, just with a white bandana...:ohwell:
At least, she doesn't look like Venus :D

I think the bandanna color is one of those things that none of us would change. We've all grown up with it and it's just common knowledge. I wouldn't change any of them for anything. I think each color fits PERFECTLY with each turtle. Had they kept them red like in the comics, it would have been hard to keep track of them all and I don't think the series would be near as popular. The best thing that they did for the cartoon/movie was making the choice to have different colors. No other colors seem to go with the blue/purple/red/orange scheme. In another world to make another scheme fit, you'd have to change all four colors I think, like gray/brown/white/black but that would be odd.

I love the colors and purple is my favorite color BECAUSE of Don. I was never ashamed growing up to admit this. I think they used the best possible combination of colors, two primary, two secondary, nice use of warm-cool colors. I can't imagine a better combination to go with their GREEN skin. It's a combo that can't be improved on.

Very!

Red is the color associated with anger- and Raphael is definitely the Turtle with the most acute and chronic anger. He has the hottest temper of the bunch for sure- as well as the long term anger issues.

Orange is the color associated with hunger/gluttony/appetite- and boy does Mikey have a bottomless pit for a stomach!

Blue is the color of the sky. And Leonardo is the most spiritual of the Turtles. It is the color of peacefulness- and Leonardo likes to meditate.

Purple is the most iNtuitive of the colors- and Donatello is certainly the most iNtuitive of the Turtles. It is also considered the most feminine color of the bunch- and Donatello is the least likely Turtle to engage in physical things.

Hold on there tiger, their is a fine line between feminine purple and manly purple.

Samhain 03-30-2010 08:47 PM

I would say yes.

Leo is always level headed and calm= BLUE.

Raph is angry, filled with rage, ect.= RED

Mikey fun, free spirited=ORANGE

Don is calm like leo, purple represent intelligence= PURPLE

HOWEVER, the ''real'' tmnt have all red bandanas.:toops::tgrumble::twink::tsmile:

The colors fit their temperaments. They complement each other well.

eventhough you can't help but think of slash, i always thought the boys would look cool all wearing black masks

Considering that Raph was primarily a comedian in the OT, did red really suit him since all his other counterparts were rebellious anti-heroes?

Mikey was still laid-back and fun-loving, it's as if the writers of the OT gave Mikey's comedic and obnoxious traits to Raph to make him more kiddie-friendly.

Probably one of them should keep red bandana from the Mirage comics.
