Goodmorning NY city, the story of a Dutch TMNT in NY

Ha quite the title huh? Well the thing is. You all know I live in Holland, Rotterdam right? And that I'm a huge TMNT fan (whoaw big announcement :P)

Well this October, I want to go to New York, and also to the New York City ComiCon. It'll be my first trip to America ever and I'm very excited.
I would like to keep this thread open to talk about it, to get ideas from people and tips about the Con and NY. I'll be meeting some TMNT artists and actors who will appear at the con, but I've also managed to meet up with some in NY. I wanna make this quite the memorable trip.

So about some of the questions.
-1- Who can confirm that NewArk airport is the closest to NYCC?

-2- Who is also going to NYCC (I so wanna meet alot of Dromers)
- Raph (that's me Rutger ;) )
- Powder (Dennis)
- Archon Turtle (Stephan)
- IveyAngelo (Michele)
- agliarept

-3- Any good cheap hotels around the con (I'm there Oct. 7 till 11)

- All taken care of!!

New Amsterdam

New York was called "New Amsterdam" in the 17th century, and the Dutch came to Manhattan. The Netherlands was a great power. I think they at least should mention it in the "April Gets in Dutch" episode.

Buffy 04-27-2010 07:00 AM

I'll ask my mom this evening where she stayed last time she was in New York. it was near times square. She was really happy with her room.
I do think NewArk airport is the best airport to use.

agliarept 04-27-2010 10:36 AM

awesome sounds like your going to have a great time.

yea im going to be at the con too, i will be at a table for a monster book im working on at the moment. i will def see you there. and yes, the Newark airport is the closest to the city. i work in Newark so i know for a fact that the train takes 10 min to get into the heart of the city. very very fast.

Raph 04-28-2010 02:18 AM

Well thanks for the info guys, I knew about New Amsterdam, we learned that at school.
And Buffy, did you ask your mom about the Hotels?

Buffy 04-28-2010 05:35 AM

My mom said this about the hotel: name hotel : Portland Square Hotel, 132 W. 47 St. in Manhattan.
Not a fancy hotel, small rooms and friendly/helpfull staff.
No breakfast but on the other side of the road is a small diner where you can get breakfast for a good price.
You can book on this link: www.booking.com. Type in NY NY and the name of the hotel.
Hope this helps. :)

Edit: more info can be found here

pl212 04-28-2010 05:42 PM

Do any of you guys know if any turtle artist is going to be there ? not counting the Mirage crew

Raph 04-28-2010 05:52 PM

Hey Powder, shall we tell him ;)

Well I'm almost certain, that Kevin Eastman and Michael Dooney will be there.

Duh. At Roy's from Secret of the ooze.

agliarept 04-28-2010 09:38 PM

haha nice...wheres that at? i was just in the city 15 min ago and was thinking about that.

Leonardo Mystic 04-28-2010 11:07 PM

From the Port Authority bus station, walk east on 8th ave away from Times Square and Broadway. If you pass the New Yorker Hotel, you're going in the right direction. It should be near the end. The address is 154 in Chelsea. I don't think it's too far from the Javits Convention Center either.

I didn't go to Roy's when I was last in NYC, but I went to Famous Ray's/Amadeus also on 8th, in the other direction towards Broadway and Times Square. Damn good pizza. You can't get anything like that where I live.

Special day if you tell me. I want to celebrate it with you dromers and Michele Ivey and Scott Williams at Roys Pizza!

pl212 04-29-2010 06:34 PM

I guess Jim Lawson won't be going to any conventions according to his blog .

Nah he told us a month or so ago that he wouldn't. Between Rutger & I bugging him, his interest was piqued & he checked out his options... Unfortunately there were no tables left at that point. Dooney is going, we suggested he tag along with him but I suppose he didn't care much for the idea. An official turtle table would have to be warranted by viacom & since there is no new material to market they probably would've shot down the proposal. Talbot was rumored to be going but its since been confirmed that he will not be... as is the case with Dan Berger (who can't afford the trip).

Wow that suckz big time , but atleast we have Dooney .
I wasn't expecting a mirage table but maybe just them as individual artists.

Well that is the case... except as far as I know, only one is doing it lol. Perhaps we'll get lucky and some of the guys who did only like one issue or something will show, they still count! Can't forget good ol Eastman though!

Anyways....

I GOT MY WEEKEND PASS! I AM SO EXCITED!

Raph 04-30-2010 02:16 PM

Right on Dennis, congrats on the weekend pass!! And still in time to be an early bird! Woohoo!
About Mirage people coming, Dennis told it all! Basicly it´s Dooney and Eastman! And with the Animé Con attached to the NYCC who knows if more 4Kids voice artists will join the guestlist!

Yea , the Anime Fest usually have a bunch of the 4kids voices.

Going a bit off topic but , have you guys noticed Stan Sakai has never been to NYCC or atleast the Anime Fest . He's one of my other main artist I want to meet .

Powder 04-30-2010 07:47 PM

Well Stan is super busy this year & said even if he hadn't been, he's just not up to the trip. Such is an unfortunate truth. Luckily, the members of his forum are really nice & if you ask politely, they'll get you stuff from the cons he goes to. Back in december he did a signing at the hundreds store in CA where he debuted "Yokai" & two limited edtion shirts. A nice dude over at the UY dojo went there for me, got me a shirt & copy of Yokai, & had them both signed with full sketches! The sleeve of my shirt is a huge drawing of Usagi & the inside cover of my book has one aswell. Just ask around!

Yea , members have gotten things from Stan for me aswell , but its just a thing of actually meeting him in person .

Raph 05-04-2010 07:36 AM

*blink* That is not the one where the filming was done. I've been going to the Ray's where the filming was done for a few years now, as some friends who was there the day of the filming told me of the location.

"The Famous Ray's Pizza"
465 6th Ave
New York, NY 10011

(Corner of 11th st)

Really it's right down the street from 11th and Bleeker ;) It really is my favorite pizza in all of New York, and I'm not just saying that because of the TMNT connection there's a lot of Turtle connected food that I don't care for. So if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be returning each time ([;{-)

Biggest warning about the place is there's not much seating there. Plenty of standing room, but the seats are along the back of the place and there's only I think 4 tables.

As Rutger said, I will be at NYC Comic Con already bought my weekend pass, would love to meet up with anyone going. I'll be spending most of my time in panel rooms knowing me, though I do make time for the dealer room and artist alley.

It's sad to think the guys won't all be there...

Powder 05-07-2010 01:09 PM

It'll be good to meet ya! You gotta take us on a turtle tour of sorts! ;)

Do you know of any turtle-related people who are going as guests that we haven't mentioned already?

agliarept 05-07-2010 01:13 PM

i spoke to a work friend of mine, oli, he does the voice of fugitoid on the cartoon, he said he might go i think he hasn't gotten a table yet. I wish eric talbot would go tho, i love his art.

I've been talking to Oliver Wyman weeks ago to come over and meet up in NY.
He agreed to at least meet up in NY outside of the Con with me. I might be able to meet up with Kenn Scott and March Thompson to.

Thanks for the correct info Michele, you'll be a great help when I get there. And I really want to celebrate my birthday on sunday (My b-day is October 10, but this year it's extra special 10-10-'10)
Should I tell them upfront that I want a table that day? I want to celebrate it with a handfull of dromers (at least Michele and Dennis 'Powder' and Scott Williams and maybe 1 or 2 more ). That's something I really want!

Raph 05-10-2010 06:52 AM

And another update!
My Hotel is booked and boy does it look fancy :D

Also on the first post of this thread I wrote down everyone who is going, if you know you are going to the NYCC too, say it and I'll add your name in the first post! I'm really curious who are all going!

Buffy 05-10-2010 01:13 PM

I want to come, can I hide in your suitcase? :D
