I'd like a new live action show
I've been watching (Henson's)Dinosaurs and in one of the extras they mentioned they got the idea of making the show from the TMNT movie suits and to use the technology for a Dinosaur live action sitcom. I then thought "wow it'd be awesome if they made a live action TMNT". Then I remembered that there was a live action TMNT show, I also realized Dinosaurs was easier since it wasn't an action show..
TNM while not as bad as people make it out to be it has its problems but those weren't because it was live action, it was mostly the writing. It'd have to have suits similar to TNM, more realistic ones like the ones from the first movie would be way too expensive and would severely limit the action. Personally I really like the TNM suits, they are realistic enough and allowed for plenty of movement and allowed them to do more movement than any of the three movie turtles suits allowed them to. It can be both more serious and light hearted, just take out all the slapstick that TNM had and it'd be great. Most villains can be easily done and for the few mutants they can just make suits for them. I think a new live action show would be great. We might see one in the future but probably not in a long time since we're getting the CG toon first. Anyone else would like to see another live action show? (in b4 hate for TNM) |
Fight scenes are just done better in animation than in live-action, especially with people wearing Turtle costumes.
|
I would love to see that dude

I'd like that also but I don't see it turning out well because of how much a weekly show like this would cost.

Live action fight scenes are awesome and better than animated ones in a lot of ways, animated ones can do some things better live bigger scale action scenes and whatnot both have their pros and cons. And I don't see the turtles suits being too much of a problem, the Power Ranger/TMNT team up had some great action scenes with the turtles and worked great with the suits, this is because the PR team had more experience with fights and scenes than the team that did TNM.
Like I said they wouldn't be using bulky suits like the ones from the movie and more like the ones from TNM that allowed for more movement. I don't think the show would cost too much either for that same reason. a budget around the same as TNM would work, its not like animation is cheap. Most of the problems with TNM was with the scripts/slapstick/people hating a fifth turtle. People don't criticize the other stuff as much even though some do hate the suits. Things wouldn't look bad just not as good as a movie, two entirely different budgets. I love having a new live action movie but I want more, I'd rather have a weekly show instead of a movie every few years. Similar reason why I'd rather have DC do a show about the Flash instead of a movie. |
if they could keep the quality like supernatural or smallville. I would love to see it
|
If they wanted to do it right, I think the budget would probably be too much. I just don't see a live action show being pulled off correctly.
|
I always think Hellboy, when I hear the word live action. That outfit was pretty groovy if you ask me.
|
Why would the budget be too much? Animation is not cheap either. Power Rangers has done more than fine with a very low budget.
|
Hell no. I don't want another Power Ranger styled TMNT series. ><
|
TNM was nothing like PR, I don't see how we could get another one if we haven't gotten one.
|
I disagree. It was close enough in style and silliness of sound effects and lame-jokes to have a cross-over.
Sorry, but if (and that's a huge f'ing if) they did another series. I'm gonna have to agree with the above comments suggesting it'd be too costly to bother. |
and power rangers have footage from the sentai series, that probably helps a bit on the budget.
anyway. TNM was very PR (bit more silly) to the point I was expecting turtle zords. |

PR hadn't been too cheesy since season 1 and they were on season 6 and its most serious season yet. But even MMPRs1 is nothing like TNM. Having a crossover or being made by the same company doesn't make them similar. Quote:

It wouldn't be too costly, no one has yet to mention why it'd cost more than an animated show. TNM had pretty good props and sets and we all know how cheap Saban was, all it lacked was better plots and writing. |

The series worked, but the ratings were bad. CBS had The Flash @ a bizarre time slot, Thursdays @ 8:30 (7:30 CST) for strategy; after kids & teens were done with The Simpsons on Fox, they would switch over to CBS. Plus it was opposite NBC's Cheers & Fox's 90210. My favorite Flash episode; Child's Play. It featured the late Johnathan Brandis playing a street kid who glided on a skateboard. At the near end of the episode, The Flash defeats the drug dealers by playing the guitar (played a Fender Strat), thus destroying the lab & have the bad guys cover their ears! I wouldn't mind another live action TMNT series. Maybe Mikey could play the guitar & drums, he would be the somewhat musician of those 4. |
I had no idea Johnathan Brandis had died. :S
I'd welcome a new live action TMNT series. Well, I would if there wasn't a movie in the works. I agree with sdp in that TNM's main problem was its scripts and tone, but the sets and suits actually looked pretty good, specially for the time, as back then TV shows tended to look pretty cheap in general. Now imagine you give TNM better lighting and camera angles, it would look superb! With a good group of writers and better lip sync for the suits, we could have a quality TMNT show. |

Here we are talking about the cost of live action vs animation shows, but I though the topic needed some numbers to back up that argument so I did a little search.
The average cost of a 1 hour drama show is in the $2-5 million range (source.) It looks that each episode of ER in 2001 (outdated, I know) cost $13 million to make (source.) For animated series, it seems that the average cost is $200,000 per episode (source.) Daria cost $500,000 an episode to make back in 97. Family Guy cost around $750,000 per episode (source.) So it seems that an animated show is indeed cheaper to produce than a live acion one. Of course I guess live action could get cheaper than the examples cited before, like in the case of a Power Rangers tyle show, but personally I wouldn't want a show like that. We already went that route before (yes, sdp, they were not exactly the same, but probably had a similar budget), and if a new TMNT series was to be made I would like it to be a quality 1 hour action-drama series. |
Well yeah if we compare it to a primetime action drama series the costs are not going to compare, we'll never get a TMNT show like that, it'd be awesome but it ain't happening. What I propose a PR-budget show IMO would work well and be cheap.
|
But it would also look super cheap. Animation is cheaper and would look way better.
|
Power Rangers doesn't look cheap.
Also cheap animation =/= good animation. |

come on, have you seen any recent PR show?
Look at the sets, costumes, special effects, martial arts, cgi, all made exclusively for PR and tell me thats cheap. |

and the cretures in PR/Sentai series still to date look cheap
|
Well how real can you make a guy in a monster suit look, especially considering it's made for kids. As long as the heroes look cool it's all good lol.
|
true
and they are meant to resemblance the old style from the older shows. it is a part of their charm. but the TMN turtles looked crap, not just compared to the movie costumes, they look cheap and not very convincing. and Power Rangers uses Sentai costumes, sets and footage so they don't need a high budget. And TNM was a proof that the PR recipe don't fit the turtles at all. but unlike The Sentai series, they only need to make a few costumes rather new ones per episode, which are a huge difference |

Just a question have you seen more than five episodes of TNM and recent PR shows? |

I would watch a person in a cardboard monster suit any day. With a Crayola marker face.
I can take that type of cheap entertainment. |

ofc PR/Sentai is a awesome show, but it still have a low budget look Quote:

A good producer would work around the budget limitations. Mutant suits are too expensive? Then only have the turtles and Splinter as mutants, everyone else would be human. I don't see anything wrong with that at all. The villains would be ninjas, mobsters, even the police. A lot better than Silver if you ask me.
You could have occasionaly actors in prosthetics instead of full suits. It could work for the Rat King and even Savanti Romero. It could be done. Bah, I'm getting excited for a show that doesn't even exist. |
yeah as long as they have a decent budget on the main mutants. The rest can be good with a limited budget.
and less is better when it comes to mutants |
I hope they scrap the idea of a nick toons toon on the 80's version and have a live action show instead aimed at older teens and adults with the 2012 movie acting as a pilote for the show...yes I realize I'm delusional...but one can hope right?
|
they could, if they made the show after the movie. Just use the movie suits, and get a CGI crew that can work fast and have the CGI elements from the movie.
not likely, but it could be done |
