What was the point of the technodrome?

The stupid thing never worked most of the time and most of the episodes where about finding fuel or getting it unstuck. For a massive war fortress the thing was pretty useless. Krang and Shredder never had enough power to keep it running and it was falling apart most of the time. Why did the creators even bother having the technodrome in the story if they couldn't even have it work half the time?

Candy Kappa 05-14-2010 01:12 PM

it's a mobile fortress, filled with alien technology to conquer worlds, and bring doomsday.

It only needed a oil check

Ulisses31 05-14-2010 01:19 PM

Because it was a cartoon... dah.
And it was made in early 90´s and it still smell like the 80´s.

CyberCubed 05-14-2010 01:19 PM

If the Technodrome was constantly operational, it would just smash through cities and the Turtles would have to stop it again, just like they did in the Season 3 finale.

I also think that's the running joke. Shredder/Krang had a huge battle machine that couldn't do anything and got constantly stuck underground, in Dimension X, in the Arctic, underwater, in a blackhole, and where it wound up at the end of the show.

Or, it was made in the 80s, and continued into the 90s.

The point of the Technodrome?

Its awesome. That's its point.

Precisely. It was a pretty good idea, I'd say. Also, it makes sense for Krang to display a certain amount of caution about the Technodrome (which he does quite often), seeing as it is pretty much the only bastion of his once vast empire left to him.

sdp 05-14-2010 02:22 PM

The Technodrome was the death star of the TMNT universe, lethal force but needed a lot of power, when operational it was the biggest threat the turtles could ever face.

The Big Bad 05-14-2010 02:51 PM

The point was to have it available for Turtles Forever. Fred Wolf was psychic that way. :P

Coola Yagami 05-14-2010 08:00 PM

If it was ever used to its 100% capacity, the show would have ended then and there. Plus it's an awesome and unique villian hideout.

Koi 05-14-2010 08:30 PM

What was the point to having the shire in The Hobbit?

Or the Stockholm Globe Arena, see http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fil:Globen_aug_1988.jpg

(actually, construction begun in 1986 and it wasn't completed until February 1989 and it's inspired by a golf ball, but i think the TMNT should visit Sweden during the Vacation in Europe episodes and mistake it)

Haha, that would be awesome, actually! I've been to Stockholm and seen the Globen. Totally the Technodrome, without the big creepy eye of course. ;) I actually have a pic I took of it from Kaknäs Tower:

Venom 05-15-2010 09:34 PM

Anyone who has the time/talent has permission to do it with my pic if they'd like! I'd love to see that. :tlol: If I wasn't in the middle of a move I'd take a crack at it myself.

You mean by having a missile carry it to another dimension on it's warhead and defying all laws of physics? Ya might want to use a better example than that :P

I think it was a great thing for the season finals with the Technodrome running full of fuel.

shuriken 05-18-2010 12:13 PM

It was a unique and powerful weapon that was turned into a joke. It's like having a ferrari that is amazingly fast and responsive but always needs a jump start. "Oh man I will so smoke you on the race track... soooo does anyone have any jumper cables?" If the technodrome was fully operational all the time New York would have been dismantled.

I loved the Big trilogy, it was much based on the Technodrome and it threatening New York City.

Walkabout 05-19-2010 07:25 AM

Besides being the home base for the bad guys, it was also sort of a looming, ever present threa-you know, watch out if they get fuel for it

Mutagen 05-27-2010 02:37 AM

The technodrome was fully functional for most of Season 1. If you watch Shredder and Splintered you'll see that this thing is PACKED with artillery and how powerful it is. Rocket launchers, canons and all kinds of mounted guns and rays. The technodrome is pretty much Krang and Shredder's Death Star. In latter episodes they made it dysfunctional because it was too powerful to be continuously featured as a prime weapon/vehicle for the villains. Come to think of it theres more similarities to Star Wars. Krang and Shredder are more or less like the Emperor and Vader. Shredder also has a facemask and helmet and is (was) voiced by African American

But the Technodrome needing energy was still a major theme in the show.

TheCanadiandrome 05-27-2010 02:31 PM

exactly. my only wish is that the equally cool Techndrome Mark II would've lasted longer

Well they needed a reason for it not to be operational. If it was, then it would be hard to explain why would they get defeated every time and it wouldnt really be a powerful weapon. Look at the episodes in which Technodrome attacks. It does massive chaos and damage.

TheCanadiandrome 05-27-2010 06:45 PM

ah all this technodrome talk! i love it

Mutagen 05-27-2010 07:09 PM

I mentioned the artillery but forgot to add - for those unfamiliar with the classic toon, Technodrome was also indestructible just like Technodrome II in Turtles Forever it had the same kind of force field

An expression of Krang's apparent golf fanaticism.

Technodrome III... Technodrome II was the mini version Shredder built in some OT ep involving Chromedome. I want to say it was "PLANET OF THE TURTLEOIDS", but I can't remember.

Yep, part 2 to be exact.

What was that moving fortress in "Turtles at the Earth's Core" called? It was also like the Technodrome.

I just rewatched the episode. That fortress had no name.
