TMNT in TV Guide!
Hey, go out and buy the new TV Guide with Spongebob on the cover and find this inside:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Those Renaissance amphibians - Michaelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello - are back. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which ruled the Saturday-morning airwaves a decade ago, is returning with a slightly harder shell. The basic premise of the show is unchanged: four very large, very nimble martial-arts warriors live in the sewer system beneath the city. They answer to their sensei, as wise old rat named Splinter. And their arch-enemy is the evil ninja master Shredder. But TMNT has dropped its old motto: Heroes on the half shell. And the boys are no longer quite as addicted to pizza. The biggest change, though, is a concerted focus on suspense and action. It's like the old show on steroids: gaining muscle mass and losing its sense of humor. The banter between the four isn't as chippy or funny as it used to be. Instead, the cartoon's tint is darker, the villains scarier, and the hardware more impressive. There's no question this is a more exciting series, but I still miss the goofy original. Action heroes are a dime a dozen. But jolly greensters are hard to find. ============= Overall not a bad writeup .. although it's too bad this guy is missing all of the great humor. |
Someone should tell him about the original comics.
|
I think that was a good description of the new show.

TV Guide
Any pictures in it?
|
Why the feck is Spongebob on the cover, and not the TMNT? gah!
|
Because Spongebob is currently the most popular cartoon on air?
|
Don't worry, I'm sure we'll see the TMNT on TV Covers at some point. Anyway, yeah, I read the article, not a bad writeup, even if the author is a touch biased, At least he says it's his opinion that he prefers the old TMNT, and doesn't write it up as "fact".

  whoa, nelly! calm down there, kameko! simmer!
yeah, that bugs me too |
I'm a big TMNT fan too and i don't think theres humor in this new series either. Or i just don't find it funny.
It must be because i'm a big fan of the old cartoon which i grew up with. |
I grew up with it too, and loved it when I was a kid, but as a show the new one is better in almost every way. I actually think it's a lot funnier, as in you wouldn't have to be a kid to get the jokes.
That and we don't hear "cowabunga" or "pizza time!" every five seconds. But then again, my sense of humor is more along the lines of "Clerks" than "American Pie", so maybe I just prefer a more "mature" sense of comedy rather than "cheap heat". Just a matter of preference, I suppose. |

Ya I totallly agree with you..... |
I think the humor in the new show is far funnier than the old. The humor in the new show is actually quite intelligent, unlike the old show which was slapstick.
But I agree with Tetsu, someone should tell this guy about the Mirage Comics. |
Simmah Down Nah, Kameko! Simmah...down...nah! SIMMAHDOWNNAH!!!
Really. What are people thinking when they say that!? They don't look like anphibians to meeeee.......... |
*lol* Sound's like Raph in last weeks ep. He was complaining how the PD gang never called them Turtles either.

The thing I don't understand is what is so funny about Spongebob.... I've watched it before and I don't think it's funny at all. Can someone clue me in here?
|
I don't get it either. Personally I'm of the opinion that it's only funny if the person watching it is stoned. Otherwise, I don't see what there is to laugh at.

I watch it, and while I enjoy it at times (any with merrmaid man) I don't understand why its so popular. Ren and Stimpy would beat him to a bloody plup
|
I've watched my siblings watch SpongeBob, and while it's not something I'd watch regularly, it does have a type of stupid, obscure humor that you just can't believe you're laughing at.
But I totally agree that I enjoy the humor of the new show more than the old show. Still like the old show, it still makes me laugh, or rather, giggle. But the new show holds me on so many different levels, not just with the humor. See, I get bored rather easily, so if the show was "all humor" or "all action" I'd get very bored, it's repetitive. Variety is the spice of life, people! And come on, in the old show, Raph never would have admited he's seen a naked guy. Not saying you have to like the new show better than the old one, but I do. BTW, I also get all up in arms whenever someone calls them amphibians (except when they do it on purpose, like how in the show they keep calling them frogs and such, as a gag.) Course, it doesn't help that both Raph and Baxter have used the term "amphibious" to describe the turtles, which could be rather confusing. |

and to be honest, i think this show is funnier |
I love the jokes about comics and TV-shows they make. I always have this "Hey, I got that one!"-feeling.
