"NECA" Styled Mutation Scene Base WIP!
Hey dudes & dudettes, here for your viewing pleasure is my first successful custom project! Its a little piece I like to call "The Shellackulate Conception"!
Jokes aside, I 'based' it on the bases that the good ol' NECA turtles came with. They got their own bases, why didn't their little turtle counterparts? Materials used- 1. Model Magic 2. Cardboard 3. Paint Tools of the trade- 1. Exacto knife 2. Paintbrush :) I'm hoping to construct this into something a little bigger/better but for now its looking good, I think. This was about... maybe 3 hours of labor. I work slow. Comments/critiques are welcome! http://i25.tinypic.com/nfodnm.jpg http://i25.tinypic.com/28i0q6w.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/n1cvtt.jpg I tried to make it look as though the ooze canister had just hit the sewer water, hence the splashing effect. For the record, the little guy on top is a mini mutants (original series) Splinter. He'll later be replaced by a more suitable rat provided I can find one. I may just cut one off of a Rat King toy and re-paint it though it might be slightly out of scale... I also had the ooze running off of the 'curb' but the pieces were too thin & broke. I will be adding more ooze drips & all types of other stuff in the near future. Thanks for looking! |
Cool scene!!! Nice pretty work ! Congrats! I like it....maybe just comment if you even had the splash effect you could put some ooze over the little shells too...(more similar like the 2k3 cartoon scene...)
Wow Grats! Powder it's looking fantastic so far. I will be looking forward to seeing it when it is finished.
Nice work Powder! My own miniturtles are on a green rock accompanied with parts of vintage sewer-toy. Could you show better picture of that rat, altho you said it's going to be replaced...
This is really, really cool!
+1 very nice
This is awesome! Haha
That came out pretty nice, i like the mutagen effects. it's a nice little dio. maybe some broken glass representing the fishbowl would be cool. You can probably use cut pieces of action figure packaging.
pretty cool Powder
thats cool, good idea to make use of the lil turtles. (mabe you could add a sewer lid to the sidewalk part) :tgrin:

Looking good, now to find a nice backdrop or something to enhance it more..
Cool little diorama--I can't recall anybody ever doing this particular scene before, and it's high time somebody did! I think the puddle of ooze that the turtle are standing in would have looked more convincing if you had made it an irregular shape, which would convey the image of an amorphous fluid better, rather than a square shape. Kudos on the creativity!
That's pretty cool, man. I dig it! Them poor turtles don't know what's coming to em!
Sweet. Awesome work Powder! Are you working on more?
That's a really cool idea, man! Great job!
Thanks for all of the feedback, everyone! I'll soon be adding a sewer wall with pipes & a whole bunch of other things. I may end up turning this into a really big piece. I dunno yet, though. Again, thanks! :)

awesome idea, looks very cool

How about dripping hot glue on fishing line for the "Dripping ooze"? It should not break off that easily.
That looks great man, good attention to detail.

I like it, its really cute, but I dont get what are those two wooden looking plank things on each side for? What are they meant to be? They are propped up against the curb, one on each side and have a bit of green paint on them! I wish I could make some of these little bases for my NM guys..

Glad ya like it! |
How come the planks are there? is that an original idea? or did you see it in a picture somewhere, I find it very interesting as to what their purpose could stand for :) i love looking into the finer miniscule details of things... PS. my only critique would be to make the platform/puddle of ooze aesymetrical, like a blob outline, and not a square, and also I wonder if they make a semi translucent type of sculpty thing, or if hot glue could have worked if it was mixed with some green tint or something so the ooze looks watery, but thats probably too hard in comparison to sculpty like u used here. Any other customs you got in the works?
It's a sewer, there's always debris like boards, metal shrapnel, etc. down there. The platform is square because this is a base, just a little display kinda thing. I'm sure I could come up with something crazy to make the ooze & such look more realistic, but this was just something I did for fun without spending money on. I used childrens clay, & cardboard.
The only other custom I have been toying with on & off is a cyborg Donatello based on his appearance in the Image comics. He's pretty much done aside from some more paint work. |
love your new sig Powder :tlol: were you sick theses days ? get better :)
any news custom comin from u man ? I like your sewer playset a lot and look forward to see more. |
