Kevin Eastman selling his TMNT collection on eBay

My friend forwarded me this link this morning:

Click here to read the article.

Imagine owning his complete collection of Turtle tchotchkes – including a Leonardo costume from the first Turtles movie! Well, starting today, you've got your chance: it's all going up on eBay. Eastman tells GeekChicDaily that back in the ‘90s, "we thought the whole thing would end in a year, so we saved everything. When it kept going, and going, and going, I kept saving the stuff--some boxes I haven't opened in 20 years."

pl212 11-18-2010 10:35 AM

I saw it this morning, WOW !!! thats an insane collection !!
I wonder who will get it :D

ScratchTheHotSpot 11-18-2010 10:39 AM

Wow, this is insane! I hope the creators aren't in any kind of debt... Hopefully it's all the surplus, and not his actual personal collection. Why would he do such a thing?... TMNT is his baby. I heard Mirage studios is closing it's doors too... Can't help but feel that it's a dark day for the ninja turtles.... :(

Holy shi-!!!! >_>....I hope Kevin isn't going broke or anything..

raphfan84 11-18-2010 12:12 PM

DAM! God I would give anything to have some of that stuff! Thats insane, I wish Mirage was not closing it's doors:-? That's def a sad thing to hear.

plastroncafe 11-18-2010 12:29 PM

I would love to see a list of the contents of those crates.

Luzmagica 11-18-2010 12:57 PM

Well :P ...if I win lottery next 9 days, Ill buy a big house with a very big/huge place for that collection at USA..... and Ill be opening TMNT boxes happyly for the rest of the year... :trazz: Maybe even I will could invite some forum members to open some boxes... :D

Anyway ....I think too its a bit sad that his creator post for sale his own collection.... of course its a great chance for the ultimate green fan that can buy/go for it! Just it make me feel a bit sad too....its difficult to explain...

I almost doubt this will sell as it is pretty costly for most. I can imagine it being broken down into smaller lots...

I wonder if the sale of Kevin's stuff is anyway related to Peter selling his stuff... Maybe the lease is up on a warehouse they shared?... Since the items are said to be in North Hampton...

Hey gang. I've spoken at length to Kevin about this sale. It has been a long time in the works. So, lemme take a minute to address a couple things:

1. Is Kevin in financial trouble?
A: No. This sale is to raise money for various projects, not to dig him out of any kind of scary hole.

2. Is this sale connected to Peter's sale?
A:No, just a happy accident.

3. Why is everything being sold as a single lot?
A:The building that the palletes are being stored at has been sold. Rather than take the time/effort/energy to move the merch and sort it, Kevin has opted to go this route.

4.What is actually in those boxes?
Your guess is as good as mine. I'm not sure Kevin is even really sure whats in them at this point. Probably pretty close to "one of everything" retail related. Most of these items are samples from the merch production companies.

Post any other questions I might be able to answer and I'll do my best.

Samhain 11-18-2010 01:24 PM

I doubt this sells. He doesnt even specify what you will be getting. Who has that kinda dough to blow on that and not even know what they will get. Hes better off selling the gems individually and just donating the rest of stuff.

Thunder Chunky 11-18-2010 01:35 PM

Wow

whoever buys that is the luckiest SOB on this earth thats the best collection ever thats the kind of thing you sell your house for lol

I dont know if I'd go that far. Remember almost all of this is retail stuff. This would really make the most sense for a reseller.

Doublepost!

Just noticed that there is one bid at $50,000 but the reserve isn't met yet... So in all reality he could decide to not let it go for $50,000 but want even more!

-ms

sdp 11-18-2010 02:36 PM

I am currently the highest bidder 8)

Everything is sold as is and barely anything is specified so it could just be a bunch of boxes with confetti inside . This will either not sell or sell for a lot more than $50,100, I mean the listing has a reserve which means until it reaches a price that Kevin Eastman found it was worth even if the highest bidder wins he won't actually get it.

No matter how much it sells for its likely going to be worth a lot more, I am sure if sold separately it could be worth four times as much as what it'll sell for.

Even celebs like Kevin Eastman need to be a little more specific with their auctions. Don't take it so personally.

I'm not taking it personally, it has nothing to do with that. Anytime anyone puts up a popularized auction for an extremely high reserve you get this. They just want to be the high bidder for the Lols. The ****** thing is is that it tends to screw things up for people who are genuinely interested.

sdp 11-18-2010 03:28 PM

Edit: this should have been a PM

Re: Your original statement.

I wouldnt be so sure he wouldnt let it go for whatever it hits. Remember, he originally auctioned the art for TMNT #1 for a million dollars and ended up taking a fourth of that.

In this case, he is racing a clock. He has to move that stuff by a certain date...so he may end up being quite flexible.

lilmotto 11-18-2010 03:51 PM

I'd like to at least see some pics of the Movie Leo

Kendamu 11-18-2010 04:10 PM

So what I'm reading is that, instead of going to college, I could've spent a lot of money on a warehouse full of TMNT stuff?

Boy did I waste my 20s...

In semi-related news, I'd bid on this if I were a rich nerd.

lilmotto 11-18-2010 04:11 PM

Thanks for the link. Does it just have regular wear and tear? It looks pretty beat up 2 me at least the head.

drewizzle88 11-18-2010 04:17 PM

Leo is in rough shape as expected...I'm excited to see someone get it and have it restored like the stunt one, but apart from that and whatever original playmates toys art work that's in there I guess Im just not that excited for retail things...maybe there's stuff in there I can't even imagine but if it really is pez dispensers and shampoo bottles and one of each toy I'm just not super excited by all of that. Although I'm hoping for movie props or anything of that nature but if he had those things I think he might remember and use them as a selling point with the Leo. Pretty sweet he has owned a batmobile and an actual tank lol.

That IS regular wear and tear for foam latex props. They all fall apart eventually.

The head appears to be Donatello's head or maybe its just the fading of the bandanna.

raphfan84 11-18-2010 05:09 PM

I hate to see that costume head in that bad of shape. Hopefully who ever gets it will restore it.:)

I hope so as well and can't imagine someone not having it restored at some point! I wouldnt wanted to look at my tmnt head in that kind of shape, it's a bit sad. I'm surprised Kevin doesnt have this thing up in his home fully restored honestly.
