First look at Nick's TMNT???

Was surfing my Deviantart watch page and saw this
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/20...00-d35hf0k.jpg

You can go to the artists page HERE. seems like this might be legit. if it is i like it.

Raph's Girl 12-24-2010 12:41 AM

Well the upper half of them look good but those legs are weird. The feet are like really funky.

Is it my colourblindness or is Leo's mask green?

Koi 12-24-2010 12:48 AM

Read
"i've probably drawn each of these guys at separate times since they appeared back in the late 80's"

Edit:
Interesting design and all, but it isn't the design for the new show. The title of this thread mislead me.

Eiko 12-24-2010 01:05 AM

They look alright i guess.

Powder 12-24-2010 01:21 AM

Not Nick designs, not official, not real, obvious.

Deviant art = fan art.

Fan art.

Also, if you checked out the guys work you'd see he drew his own versions of characters owned by Nick. Nothing more.

How about someone deletes this thread?

Powder 12-24-2010 01:53 AM

I'm a member, I'm aware (the link in my sig proves such). Still.

The reason I am as I am is because a lot of us are hanging by a thread waiting for REAL news.
These false alarms can ruin your day and fool the naive.

I really fail to see the harm in him asking if it's real or not. He found something, got excited, and asked if it was official. If this tricks anyone they obviously can't read.

I don't have anything against you personally but you're not a mod, stop acting like one. I wouldn't mind but the way you go about is rude 90% of the time. You're also often condescending to members that have been here 3 times as long as you. You need to chill out.

On topic the design is close to what I'd expect a modern toon to look like. The legs and feet are weird but I could live with it. We could get a lot worse. I hope the final designs are at least as decent as this.

A. It's just a misleading thread title.

B. Maybe I have an attitude at times, but it's not like I think I'm better than anyone. & for the record I'm not the only one who tells people to pay attention the rules around here. Besides, I never get on your case for acting like you know everything about the film industry. Oops, did I just now?

C. Really? I mean, it's gonna be CGI supposedly, wouldn't the art reflect that style a little bit if so?

Then the title should be changed. The thread doesn't need to be deleted.

Yes and those people have been called out on it before too.

I hardly discuss film on here anymore but when I did yes I acted like I knew everything. Partly because I spend most of my time either researching or working on film. Having been through 3 years of schooling puts me ahead of most people on here in terms of film education level. May not qualify me as the master of all things film but it shows that I have at least some idea of what I'm talking about.

Many CGI series/movies start with 2D production art. Also while they said they might go CG they haven't officially stated yet that's a locked deal. I hope that isn't the case to be honest.

I don't want to argue with you I was just pointing out something I've observed over the past few months. Sometimes people don't realize how they're acting until they take a step back or someone else points it out. No offense meant by it.

Powder 12-24-2010 03:49 AM

It's all cool dude. I get tense on the internet, I dunno why. I swear, in real life I'm a really mellow guy. I was a bit dickish, my bad to both parties.

Regarding the CGI though, I'm pretty sure they have their hearts set on it, and have since the beginning. Then again, it's been a long time since I read that news anyways. I'm with you on not wanting it. It's not as though it won't work, but me personally I'm not a fan.

Digital Ghost 12-24-2010 06:40 AM

I agree on a title change... 'cause we'll be using it for the real thing someday soon.

Regardless, this is really good fan art!
A little too geometric for my taste but it's got some originality.

Master Splinter 12-24-2010 06:46 AM

They look kinda like frog legs... The art looks good though, whoever did it is definitely a pro of some sort...

It's "Air Force Blue", which is a grey-blue.

Samhain 12-24-2010 11:30 AM

Dang, I saw the title of this thread and got super excited. Hopefully we will see something soon...

Most CGI stuff does get a basis done in 2d though. Promo art, production art, sketches, etc. Most videogames, cgi movies, etc start with months upon months of 2d hand drawn or tablet drawn illustrations before even attempting to make it a 3d rendered product. I think thats what Spitfire was saying. Regardless of them having their hearts set on 3d from the start, doesn't mean they don't have a metric ****-ton of 2d illustrations to see if they like designs.

Why waste weeks on 3d rendered images on character designs or concepts if they could get some idea based in 2d within minutes? Then go from there.

And Deviant art is a majority of fury hentai drawing douchebags. Every so often, like someone mentioned, you get a Joe MAD!, or Adam Kubert, or whoever, who actually post their legit comic/cartoon work. Nicktoons actually has a lot of people on DA, I'm not entirely sure why, but I've seen more work from them than any other cartoon production group. And this guy in particular is a "real" artist, in the sense that he does comic covers for IDW, and other companies.

As for the designs, they seem fairly bland. I like Leo's face, but the piece as a whole is seeming to try too hard to be pop-art/pulp ****, and not working. The dude can draw, for sure, but that picture isn't doing him any favors in getting me excited for TMNT. His other work, such as his Godzilla, Creature from the Black lagoon, Power rangers, transformers etc, is all spectacular. So, hopefully your pissy tirade was right, and he doesn't work for Nicktoons.

Looks too similar to the 2003 series.

Luzmagica 12-24-2010 12:20 PM

Is it the real/true Logo of Nicktoons at down left corner of the pic??

Im a bit confuse if it could be or not some kind of Preview!!!??? :tconfuse:

cryan 12-24-2010 12:33 PM

Looks like the same art work as Chaotic. If you guys remembered that series.I hope they don't go with the flash program to make this series.

Psypher39 12-26-2010 01:18 PM

reminds me of pixars incredibles, i dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing ;)

SuperShredder 12-26-2010 01:38 PM

We all dodged a bullet there. Those turtles look super whack lol. They look like samurai jack straight up. I hope they do better then that ****, half the members on this board could make them that good!!! When I first looked at the pic i actually quoted Raph and yelled DAMNNNNNN echoing through out my house!!!

azrael 12-26-2010 02:30 PM

The art reminds me of Samurai Jack which I loved and think the tmnt would fit perfectly there.

SuperShredder 12-26-2010 03:47 PM

Samurai Jack was okay but has nothing on the ninja turtles. I want them to do something new, lead the pack, grab hold of a new generation. Not just use simple art styles that are already used in many of the cartoons of today. They need not follow and lead!

gobo 12-26-2010 04:17 PM

That would be a bold, new direction.

BubblyShell22 12-26-2010 04:39 PM

Man, I thought this was about the new show. The pic looks cool, but I don't know if that's what they want to do. We'll just have to wait and see.

Meh, while I love the Tmnt, I would watch Samurai Jack over any turtles cartoon anyday. But thats just me.

Fugitoid Jones 12-27-2010 01:50 AM

I would totally watch a CGI TMNT cartoon over a flash animation toon any day. I hate the look of flash for televised cartoons.

cryan 12-27-2010 05:30 AM

Yeah,The Spaceballs series that came on G4 was horrible. The Flash animation they use today is crap.I do like Samari Jack as well but I would like to see the same animation fom the Y2K3 series myself.I know they won't go back to that but I wish the would.

SuperShredder 12-27-2010 08:18 AM

To each his own i guess. In my personal opinion those drawings have no substance. Their so plain and boring its ridiculous, really! The 2k3 series art is 20x better then that and even it ain't the best. I think in all honesty if they want to get as many new fans as possible anime style is what they need to do.

azrael 12-27-2010 08:46 AM

well lets come up with our own designs, for what we would do.

Something like this. Not "gritty" by normal standards of "grittiness" but not clean looking either. I never thought that a story about mutants, ninjas, and aliens fighting in the sewers of NYC should ever look clean.

I really see some Eastman influence in Leo's face. That is why I always loved the oldschool box art. The perfect blend of comic and cartoony. I wouldnt mind seeing that.

Candy Kappa 12-28-2010 05:31 PM

damn I got disappointed by this thread

Fugitoid Jones 12-29-2010 01:45 AM

I agree with Goongasnootch and Samhain. If it looked anything like the artwork on the old action figure packages, I would be one happy camper. (hehe...'packages'...)

I agree with all of you on Goongasnootch's suggestion. That would be my ideal animation preference. I have always loved the vintage box art more than anything.

SuperShredder 12-29-2010 08:12 AM

Love that Leo on the box but the others look a little funny!
