Was it confirmed the new series was 2D or CG?

I now cannot remember if the show being CG was just speculation that got taken as fact or if that was really stated somewhere.

Is the Nick show going to be a regular cartoon or will it be CG? Do we know for sure?

Eiko 02-16-2011 11:54 PM

Last i heard it was still going to be CG.

But like I said, where did this, "news" originate first?

I now cannot recall if it was a rumor that got passed off as fact along the way.

This was confirmed in the press release that announced Nick's purchase of the TMNT.

Spitfire 02-17-2011 12:46 AM

The thing is we've heard nothing since the buy out about what the series will be. It could end up being 2D after all. A lot can change in a year. Could also just be wishful thinking...

Eiko 02-17-2011 02:38 AM

It would great if it was going to be 2D can only hope.

Candy Kappa 02-17-2011 07:52 AM

The hate on CGI is just stupid

BubblyShell22 02-17-2011 08:15 AM

It doesn't matter to me whether it's 2D or CG. Just as long as the plot is good and the characters are good.

Really? I've yet to see good CGI on TV.

The hate seems to be on CG itself, so I'm gonna post a couple of CGI shows that have good 3D renders

Beast Wars (it was good for it's time)
Pocoyo
Clone Wars
Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends
Elias the little rescue boat
Father of the Pride

All have good qualities in animation, render, style, visual effects

sdp 02-17-2011 09:11 AM

Its only been stated in the press release when Nick bought he turtles, we've heard nothing since then. The only thing that hasn't been stated yet many are assuming as fact is that the new show will use OT characters but be more serious but that has never been stated. I mean it makes sense the OT is the most popular incarnation and all cartoons are more serious now than they were in the 90s but its still speculation.

Clone Wars, you may not like the character designs (based on Samurai Jack's Genndy Tartakovsky) but the CG is great. And Kiwamu is right there are plenty of shows that had great CG for the time though now may look dated. Also CG gets better with time, look at how much of a difference just some years had on the show reboot, the improvement is huge. I think TMNT 2007 looks amazing and that movie will be 5 years old when the new show comes out in 2012, thats a long time in computer years, it wouldn't surprise me if the show looks as good as TMNT 2007.

I'm 100% that when the designs are revealed people are going to bash it because its CG like we haven't known for the past two years that it was going to be CG. CG show designs always seems to have that affect, well most of the time. In fact I'm sure people will confuse character design with the quality of the CG with comments like "The CG sucks", while the CG might be good and they might not like the character designs. The same happens in 2D animation and people often mention "The animation sucks" but the animation is amazing what they don't like is the character designs, a recent example would be Spectacular Spiderman.

Its rather obvious they'll at least use Krang, Bebop, Rocksteady and likely the Technodrome. They're some of the most well known characters and PL isn't around to prevent them from using them.

Otherwise I agree we may not see any other OT characters, and Splinter's origin could go either way, but I'm sure Krang/Bebop/Rocksteady are shoe-in's at the very least.

Candy Kappa 02-17-2011 09:47 AM

but there are a couple of concern I have, one is Splinter and his fur. Fur simulation is no walk in the park, and I doubt they'll use the same quality as Pixar and Dreamworks when it comes to Fur renders.

The other is not a huge concern, age. It's very depending of visualization, what render they're gonna use and how fluid the animation is. But CGI can easily age less gracefully like 2D animation

Redeemer 02-17-2011 02:05 PM

Ill be the first to admit, I don't like CGI, the only character design cgi I have ever liked was Beast Wars.

You can speculate all you like, but there is absolutely nothing about this show that can be stated as "rather obvious" when absolutely nothing about it has actually been revealed.

Yeah, or at least I hope so. I have high hopes for this cartoon...don't spoil them with Bebop and Rocksteady! :tcry:

Never heard of it. Consensus stands... CGI = teh suck.

Spitfire 02-17-2011 09:09 PM

My problem with CGI animation made for TV series is while it might not look bad initially it will in 4 or 5 years. Reboot and Beast Wars both look awful to me. When I was a kid they looked fine but they did not age well. 2D animation however looks good forever, granted it's done well to begin with.

CyberCubed 02-17-2011 09:11 PM

If it looks as good as the 2007 movie did, I'll be perfectly fine with that as a regular series.

We know Rob Paulsen is back as Donatello, can we get anymore info on the cast, or is that still "hush hush"?

Evey time I read that Rob Paulson is doing Don's voice, I can't help but picture Don with Carl Wheezer's voice.

CyberCubed 02-18-2011 01:29 AM

Sounds like the show won't be ready till 2012, probably next summer....

I think Jimmy Nutron and Planet Sheen were also CGI if I remember correctly. But didn't like either way the shows looked.

Not seen Planet Sheen, and I didn't include Jimmy Nutron cause it looks really amateurish. I've seen better student work that was used as negative examples in lectures I attend to.

I was expecting a children's show, after what he said... I still expect a children's show.

sdp 02-19-2011 12:22 AM

Every TMNT cartoon so far have been children shows.

It's Nickelodeon, not Adult Swim.

They also made Avatar The Last Airbender. It's a kid's show. But a very good one that respects kids' intelligence that teenagers/adults can enjoy watching.

oldmanwinters 02-22-2011 07:24 PM

Hmm... been thinking about what the TMNT would look like in the Teen Titans DC Animated style.

Looks like somebody else has put those concepts into application:
