Things You Like, But Others Don't Like

Well we have a topic about what we hate that other people love. Now the opposite. What do you like, but other people hate?

FOX News

Best Buy - most locations have customer reviews below 3 stars

Classic Nickelodeon (Pre 2000)

Pokemon (Seasons before Johto)

Bowling - there are some exceptions to me not liking sports

Dodgeball - I don't mean the movie.

Volleyball - Again, there are some exceptions to my disliking for sports

Waterparks

Classic movies and TV shows including B&Ws

Classic Nintendo and Sega games

Sushi - the real stuff not that Americanized stuff in the grocery stores

Raw cookie dough

My hamburgers cooked medium-rare

Bike riding many miles per day, except in cold months where it's harder for me

Severe thunderstorms - as long as nothing gets hurt or no one gets killed. Just something to put on a light show.

Blu-Ray format - It seems people are still more into DVDs.

eBooks - I perfer listening to books intead of reading.

Arnold Schwarzenegger (I know I misspelled that) - I like some of his muscle movies like Conan The Barbarian/Destroyer, Red Sonja, Terminators, and some of those comedy movies where he had to get tough such as Jingle All the Way.

Monster Truck Rallys

Demolition Derbys

Studio Amusement parks like Univsersal Studio in Florida

Adam Sandler movies - some not all.

The NeverEnding Story - Mainly the 1984 movie

Cartography - It's drawing maps and plans

Day dreaming

Foods classes in school

You're joking. Nostalgia nut clutchers do nothing but talk about how those things are the greatest.

This thread is just going to dissolve into 'things I like' really quick just like the opposite thread.

I'm okay with people of color. Mostly myself.

Storm Eagle 03-27-2011 03:41 PM

I wanted to start a thread like this, but I was concerned about running the whole thing into the ground. Anyway I'll just say what's on my mind.

cats
Nintendo video games
chocolate
Power Rangers

Okay not everybody else hates those. It's just that I noticed that these are the things for which most people seem to have an intense disdain.

Dude, that's my favorite store. What's rated higher than that? The high-priced or 'so enormous it takes days to reach the other side of the store' yuppie-marts? Though, people are less hesitant to voice a complaint than give a positive review.

chad 03-27-2011 07:19 PM

Best buy is my favourite place to shop

Guitar_Raph 03-27-2011 07:54 PM

Going back to my past;

Don Mahoney & Jeanna Clare: A local Houston show where young kids showcased their talent (mostly dance classes), hosted by those two cowboys. Don played harmonica, guitar & sang while Jeanna had a voice that shattered like glass! My family thought they were a bunch of phony balognas while I liked it!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../DonJeanna.jpg
Get the gong!!!

Kids Incorporated; My younger cousins thought they sucked because they sung other perople's songs. I stuck with it until 1989 when Ryan Lambert left the show. And I met Mario Lopez!

Hee Haw: I loved those corny jokes and sketches & when Roy Clark sang. He was my first influence for wanting to play the guitar. My brother disliked that.

The Lawrence Welk Show; Since Houston didn't have American Bandatand until 1984, it was my mild fixtuire to hear classy music, sponsored by Geritol & Sominex. My aunt thought I was fruity while I thought it was wunnerful, wunnerful, wunnerful!

Since when do others not like this? Most pokemon fans take Kanto over anything else.

Cure 03-27-2011 08:32 PM

Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

Peanut 03-28-2011 07:43 PM

How the f*ck do people hate Nintendo, Nickelodeon, Pokemon, cats, chocolate etc? Aren't these supposed to be exceptions and not the rule, not the other way around? This thread is dumb.

Cure has the right idea, there's no end to the hate you hear for that kid and Miley. Those actually make sense. He's genuinely retarded and a 5 year old girl for liking anything that has the possibility of showing up on the cover of Teen Beat, but that's besides the point.

Cure 03-28-2011 09:33 PM

It's true, I'm a total girl.

Roseangelo 03-28-2011 09:38 PM

I like the Star Wars prequels, especially Episode 1.

This is the single most insane thing I've ever heard and I've visited the TMNT section of this forum.

I assure you it wasn't easy coming out in the open. I apologize if you were offended.:(

Peanut 03-28-2011 10:11 PM

Less offended and more shocked to the very core of my being! Personally, I was always a fan of Boss Nass.

Watto was actually my favorite character of the movie.:tcool:

Also, the only memorable good thing about the Episode I video game adaptation was the ability to kill any gungan you wanted, sometimes without serious consequences.

The thing is, that whether you like him or not, I challenge anyone to watch Episode 1 and tell me that Captain Panaka isn't, in fact, a thousand times more useless and annoying than Jar Jar.

sdp 03-28-2011 11:42 PM

I tend to actually give a chance to stuff that is hated by most and I also tend to like some things that people hate just because its supposed to be aimed at a younger audience so people don't give it a chance.

Characters people don't like? Ewoks, Snarf, Scrappy, Captain Planet, etc. I like them all and I think people overreact about them.

Hated videogames? 3D sonics, Mario spin-offs,

Hated movies? Power Rangers, Riddick, Speed Racer, Scooby Doo etc

Those are just some examples of stuff I like that is often hated out of the top of my head right now but the list is much larger. There is also a bigger list of things I don't necessary like a lot but I still think are not as bad as they're made out to be like.

Me too, and not only that I am sure there are plenty of people who genuinely enjoyed the prequels. The BO and DVD sales speak for themselves, just people are ashamed or jump into the bandwagon that its cool to hate the prequels. My favorite prequel is also Episode 1, I really like most things about it. Ep 2 has fallen opinion wise but it smostly the Padme/Anakin love scenes. Ep3 I hated when I saw on theaters but every time I re-watch it I appreciate it more for the things it did well.

Another example of its cool to hate, dromers probably think I love the show since I'm always defending it or suggesting seeing stuff from that show in other media. But in reality its really not anywhere near my favorite version of the TMNT, I just think its not as bad as people make it out to be and feel the need to talk about it.

When I was a little kid the only thing I didn't like about the Ewok Adventure was the giant black Gorax. That Star Wars expanded universe movie came out when I was 2, and the Gorax is quite terrifying for a little kid. It's a 40-foot mutated ape with a nasty sweaty face and has a viscious growl. He held the parents of Mace and Cindel in a cage in his lair.

Characters people don't like? Snarf

I've mentioned somewhere around here that I never had a problem with Snarf. There's also Orko from He-Man.

I of the opinion that Matt Reeves' Cloverfield is the best American monster movie of the past ten years. Yes, there are a good amount of people who think it's good, but I'm the only person I know of who finds it brilliant. The way it immerses you in an unbelievable situation is evocative of classic Spielberg, with characters that feel genuine, not so goody good as to feel like "heroes coming out of their shells," but not so unlikable as to be typical slasher movie fodder. They're just ordinary people, trying to survive. It uses the found footage style to its fullest advantage, putting the viewer at ease with depictions of mundane life, so that when the monster attacks about 30 minutes in, it grabs the viewer by the throat and never lets go until the final frame. Speaking of which,

Spoiler:
"I had a good day" is one of my favorite movie quotes of all time. It was close to three years after I saw it the first time that I had the chance to see it again, and all during that time, I never forgot that final haunting line.

Everything comes together in a way that, in my mind, is a breath away from being perfect.

I would also like to point out that a lot of people say that the found footage style is just an excuse for the filmmakers not to work that hard. I usually don't like to be a dick like this, but these people don't know what they're talking about. At all. Despite the lack of traditional camera setups, the crew still has to do everything else associated with making a giant monster movie. Closing down city streets, managing dozens of extras, ensuring that there is room in the frame for the post-production effects, building elaborate practical sets of destroyed buildings, etc. And on top of all that, now the professionally trained camera operators have to make it all look like it was shot by an amateur. They must compose the shots in a way that not only showcases everything the viewer needs to see, but also looks organic to the established style. The fact that you think it looks like the actors just grabbed a camera and ran around with it is a testament to how well they did their job.

I could go on and on and on about how much I love this movie and why everybody else is wrong about it, but I think I'll stop there.

Oh, and I also listen to P!nk. Regularly.

BubblyShell22 03-29-2011 11:54 AM

Here are some of the things I can think of off the top of my head:

Glee

House

Degrassi (Not really the new stuff, but the older eps.)

The Secret Life of the American Teenager

Wizards of Waverly Place

Hannah Montana

Sonny With A Chance

Shake It Up!

Pretty Little Liars

Harry Potter

American Idol

The Amazing Race

The Real Housewives of Atlanta and New Jersey

The Bad Girls Club

Teen Mom

16 and Pregnant

Pro Wrestling

The Powerpuff Girls

Pop music

Country music

Family Guy

The Simpsons

Futurama

Bob's Burgers

South Park

EDIT: Added some things I forgot.

Hannah 03-29-2011 04:54 PM

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that those are all incredibly popular things.

I too find that film brilliant. Loved it.

Hmm, guess since there is a lot of stick for him in the press, and what not, he's a rather disliked over here, but I for one am a huge fan of Pete Doherty. Be it Libertines, Babyshambles or solo, I love his music.

Cure 03-29-2011 05:40 PM

No one seems to get the point of this thread outside of a few people. You're all dumb.

Jester 03-29-2011 05:44 PM

I dunna, I'm sure there are some others who don't like Glee, House, Hannah Montana, and Country Music.

愛 03-29-2011 06:01 PM

Yeah, SOME people don't like them, but they're still overwhelmingly popular. It's not like you're doing something so daring or controversial by being a fan of these things.

He's definitely more useless, but I honestly don't think anyone is more annoying than Jar Jar. However, episode II 3PO takes the cake as far as annoying characters in Star Wars movies goes.

I should have added sarcasm tags....

BubblyShell22 03-30-2011 12:26 PM

The point of the thread is things that you like that others don't. While some people may like the things I listed, there are others who don't. That's the point. I just thought I'd add my two cents for the hell of it, even though I agree it's a bit pointless.

Sword Slicin' Leo 03-30-2011 12:30 PM

Only think that comes to mind is Grumpy Old men films...None ofmy freinds have ever seen them, and i am WTF??!?!?the **** is Hilarious!!

Wildgoose 03-30-2011 03:35 PM

Hmmm,

-watching X rated movies with friends to make fun of it (still I manage to make a friend of mine watch one together and we coulnt stop laughing)
-punching people when I have my nerves (I just dont get it, why they hate it!! XD)
