I wonder if this will be a new take or if it will pick up dangling continuity threads...who could possibly have a story that needs wrapping up? :P

discordiatookie 04-01-2011 06:43 PM

My first thought was April Fool. I've been taking everything with a pinch of salt today. :trazz:

So then I checked:

Looks good to me!

TMNT fans will also be treated to newly remastered collections of classic Turtles comics, beginning with the original 1980s series that started this worldwide phenomenon.
:D

azrael 04-01-2011 06:43 PM

damn you, you beat me to it. Awesome news tho.

I'd guess they'll be starting fresh, but from the looks of things in the same tone as the Mirage material. Still, couldn't hurt to try, right...?;)

oldmanwinters 04-01-2011 06:52 PM

My first thought:
Tristan is back! He made a post! He's still alive! Praise God!:tgrin:

My second thought:
A new TMNT comic series? Potentially a serious take aimed at older readers? Wow!!! Let's hope this one lasts longer than the Dreamwave series!

My third thought:
April Fooled!
What, really? Cool!

plastroncafe 04-01-2011 06:52 PM

Well THIS just makes my day!
Awesome!

TristanHuwJones 04-01-2011 06:56 PM

I'd been lurking... ;)

Hadn't had a lot to say, lately. Had some creator owned projects get up off the ground, the first to hit later this year(!) and have something very cool to announce shortly!

Gotta see if I can get in on TMNT somehow though...!

joe-eyeball 04-01-2011 06:56 PM

I have been feeling physically unwell lately and this just made me feel a whole lot better. GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!

TristanHuwJones 04-01-2011 06:59 PM

I would definitely suggest people head over to the IDW boards and voice their support for what IDW have planned! Collections of the Mirage stuff?! Far too long in coming! New PG rated series? Hell. Yes.

Just curious, Tristan, would you consider Tales of TMNT v.2 PG rated? Or the later issues of the Archie series?

PG would be great for me, since I'm not really much on the ultra-violent n' glory, dirty jokes, cussn' like a sailor stuff. I don't really have much recent first-hand exposure to the kind of stuff IDW has put out.

azrael 04-01-2011 07:01 PM

I am excited for this I wonder where they will start. A new origin or slightly different origin with the same concept.

So many possibilites hopefully PL gets a spark of creativity and finishes up volume 4

Fan favourite Tristan Jones added to the rosta of new TMNT writers? :P

Andrew NDB 04-01-2011 07:02 PM

This has been going for a while now. :)

oldmanwinters 04-01-2011 07:03 PM

Here's the part that really shocked me:

Quote:

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES comics will be available in comic stores throughout North America in Summer 2011.
Seriously? So soon? Well over a year before the new animated series is set to premiere?

Gotta be a typo, right?

azrael 04-01-2011 07:03 PM

I would love a pg13 series, I mean look how far movies push that without it being overly gory or violent.

Utromshredderhater 04-01-2011 07:05 PM

A thought just occurred to me, Do you think this is Dawn of the ninja finally getting breakthrough?

Hell no.

I skipped going to WonderCon today, but I'll go tomorrow and see if I can get any additional info.

Raph's Girl 04-01-2011 07:07 PM

SW33T!!! And THIS summer?! Dude!! :o

I don't think it'll be new content coming out this year, but trades of previous stuff.

Yeah, that makes sense. Good point.

Andrew NDB 04-01-2011 07:08 PM

There's other good news coming in this. Sit tight.

TristanHuwJones 04-01-2011 07:09 PM

No, Dawn of the Ninja has nothing to do with it as far as I know, and I'm working on a creator owned book with Ray Dillon (the artist on that). He said it's strictly a fan thing.

As for the Tales PG question. I'd say some definitely were, a few weren't. Some skirted PG-13... (looks at self).

Ah, yes. Such language too. Shame on you, Tristan.:P

C'mon, teenagers have the foulest mouths on the face of the planet... ;)

Well, whilst i'm sitting tight, what I would hope for would be:

A completely new series, with no ties to any continuity (but I wouldn't mind if it draws inspiration from various TMNT sources)

A Mirage classics series (which also ties up loose ends)

A new toon based series (sorta like what Adventures were to Mirage)

Well, one can dream, can't he? :P

If they pick up a fan project Turtle Turncoat or MNT: Gaiden would be my choices....

What?

Kendamu 04-01-2011 07:17 PM

What a day to announce this stuff?

Who decided that April Fool's Day was a good day to do this?!

Beyond that, I'm super stoked! Bring it on! I wanna read CaW as a trade!

Too much TV and next-gen video games like Guitar Hero, eh?

(Remember that vigorous forum ebate over why XBoxs was present in a comic supposedly set in the 1980s?)

TristanHuwJones 04-01-2011 07:23 PM

I remember it being defended much like the existence of cell phones in a comic that preceded that one... ;)

Oculus Orbus 04-01-2011 07:26 PM

No way! Man, I'm so happy about this. I just hope they pick up the right guys to do it, like, let's say, Tristan Jones?

Ninjinister 04-01-2011 07:29 PM

Best news of the day!

Kendamu 04-01-2011 07:29 PM

IDW's forum crapped out on me and I got an error. It didn't send me my email. Now I can't comment on it.

Motherf............!

Jester 04-01-2011 07:36 PM

Wait, IDW does Star Trek?? Does that mean...

John Pannozzi 04-01-2011 07:48 PM

Dr. Splenger might be a little disappointed by this development ifyaknowwhatimean....

In any case, I personally will wait until the IDW boards have a TMNT-specific subforum before I bombard them with questions. They should have one in no more than maybe a week or two...

What?

Nah, fan remix vol. 1 #1.

Another reprint I can add to my collection!

TristanHuwJones 04-01-2011 08:20 PM

Bleeding Cool just ran a pretty decent article on things:

Quote:

Well, with a new Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series on the way and no one actually publishing a comic book of the characters at the moment, something was going to give.

Kicking off this summer, IDW will be publishing a new Turtles series. Creative team current unnanounced. But it will probably look something like this. (right)

Any suggestions?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Tony Lees?

Any chance of Anne Rice’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

UPDATE: Owen Thaxton at the IDW panel in Wondercon ads that it will both adapt the new series and have new material, and are still in talks with Nickelodeon over the creative team.

Star Trek, Dr. Who, Transformers, G.I Joe, Ghostbusters, and Godzilla!

TristanHuwJones 04-01-2011 08:26 PM

Not to mention Rocketeer, Dungeons and Dragons, Dragonage, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Jurassic Park and plenty more!

Jurassic Park still has a comic book series?

You mean they haven't killed all those critters off by now?

Or have they all mutated into bizarre versions of their historical counterparts ala the third movie?
