David Wise - No Job for the "Turtle Guy"
 

On his facebook, David Wise mentioned that he was told "thanks but no thanks" for a recent writing job for being "The Turtle Guy" and the Turtles weren't as "edgy" as this was going to be.

I love David Wise's stuff. Some of his episodes of the TMNT, are the best in the series. Stuff like Legend of Koji, Shredder Triumphant not to mention the pilot and other episodes I've forgotten were written by him (Mr. Ogg not withstanding). Heck, like I said on facebook, with IMDb couldn't they see he's was more prolific than just the "Turtle Guy"? He also wrote for He-man, Transformers, and even My Little Pony. That's range!

So, what are your thoughts on this?

Wise is awesome! Maybe there's just a bias against 80s animation writers on the perception that their blend of action/humor just doesn't resonate with the kiddies of today?

Curse those modern-day "edgy"-obsessed network fools!

Also, White Belt, Black Heart was written by Jack & Carole Mendelsohn.

That sucks that they don't want David Wise. I agree that a good chunk of the episodes that he wrote for were some of the best episodes. He could do action, mystery and humor pretty well. The 5 part first episodes prove that he could write some really good stories for Nick's turtle show. and im rambling on.

Blame IMDb. They list it separately from the series proper, I'm guessing since it was a prime time "movie".

I think it's short sighted of them to not consider him because he isn't "edgy" :trazz:

It's all about quality of writing. He wrote the original show in the style he was told to write it in. He didn't decide on the mood of the show.

You also forgot to add "Adventures of Rhino-Man".

Just checked David Wise did not write Gangs All Here, Leonardo Lightens Up and Unknown Ninja.

If Dan Berger were still webmaster over at ninjaturtles.com, I would seriously write him and request he fix that entry on "The Gang's All Here." I can't believe David Wise's name got attached to that train-wreck of an episode.:tgrumble:

Now that I've received the revelation that Wise had nothing (or at least didn't have the final say?) to do with Gang's All Here, I'm starting to think the Mr. Ogg episode can't be as bad as I remembered. We gotta get around to commentating on that episode soon, Jester!
