Krang was an evil Utrom...

if you consider the daily strips to be some sort of canon...

I've always kind of told myself he was one anyway, obviously he's based on them. Cool to see it is almost canon.

Jester 07-09-2011 03:12 AM

Is the Utrom home world called Utr anywhere else? Cause the dailies names it thus.

Didn't realize I had to be so damn specific. :tmad:

Cool to see it is almost CARTOON canon.

Jester 07-09-2011 04:01 AM

Cartoon...Archie...it's very closely tied to each. Take Leatherhead. His "voice" is very much the Fred wolf series, but his origin is straight out of Archie.

I'm pretty sure Theta Galaxy is the only name we've ever got.

So... they have the ability to fire large rounds?

gobo 07-09-2011 08:27 AM

Wha'd I tell ya, Pow-Didder? ^_^

oldmanwinters 07-09-2011 09:59 AM

Heh, I forgot about that!

***First of Two Latin Kings*** 07-09-2011 10:03 AM

I remember there was an argument about this on NTML years ago (some of you might know what that is, others not so much) and GreenWillow and several other purists became angry when tokka cited this strip in defense of Raph's Girl/Dierna, who at the time was insistent that Uroms were Krangs and vice-versa. I believe GW's exact words were "Gah!!! Tricksy little Jim Lawson and/or Dan Berger!" Ha...

CyberCubed 07-09-2011 10:57 AM

How is being "based on" the Utroms the same as being as one?

The Fred Wolf staff obviously liked the idea of alien brain things, decided to create one to be a main villain in the series, and based it off the designs of the Utroms and their robot suits.

Krang should never be called an Utrom. If anything you can say they share a common ancestor like humans and apes.

Venom 07-09-2011 04:21 PM

Well, C³, if you think outside the box, it'd be easy to believe that the "alien brain" story was a lie, and the Krang clones that grew bodies were the Oot equivalent of "evolved genetic abberations" like the Turtles. :D

Jester 07-09-2011 04:36 PM

The only problem with using the dailies as a basis for "Krang is a Utrom" is that the Utrom's claim they created the TGRI (I know...the plot thickens) mutagen that created the Turtles. Then again, a rogue Utrom might just steal some, and give it to his new ally. Heck, he might even know the secret family recipe.

Venom 07-09-2011 04:47 PM

What if TGRI was a subsidiary of a larger TCRI? :shifty:

Roll that beautiful ooze footage!

discordiatookie 07-09-2011 06:08 PM

Although there be similarities, I see the Fred Wolf, Archie and the dailies ad three seperate universes. Very close ones, yes, but still different enough to be their own.

I'll totally give you that. There are enough differences that it stands to reason. Heck maybe they all started from one universe and branched out on their own some where...I'd say Incredible Shrinking Turtles might be that split.

For Archie, yeah. The 'toon adaptations stop before they even finish that arc. But, for the strips, I'm willing to bet that was more derrived from Mirage, considering the stories they started out with. It was in later years that they started peppering in OT influences.

I dunna. There are some Mirage adaptations (OK, only Sons of the Silent Age, which I guess stands to reason as it was a Murph/Lawson story both times.)when Lawson was drawing. Berger's run was very Archie/FW with some Fred Wolf-ified Mirage stuff thrown in.

My wife insists that Krang is an utrom.

CyberCubed 07-10-2011 12:47 AM

Krang is not an Utrom. Ch'rell is the evil Utrom, we already know that.

Krang and Ch'rell also have very noticeable design differences. Krang also looks different than the designs of the regular Utroms.

Again, according to the multiverse splinter (tehe) that is the TMNT Daily Comics, Krang is in fact a rogue Utrom.

Krang was a whiny Utrom. :D

ToTheNines 07-10-2011 07:01 AM

Well maybe the Turnstone is like Wikipedia, and anyone can edit it :P

Fugitoid Jones 07-13-2011 02:18 AM

Scorecard:

OT Krang = NOT an Utrom
Archie Krang = NOT an Utrom
Strip Krang (that sounds nasty) = Utrom
2K3 Krang = Utrom

Jester 07-13-2011 02:27 AM

1/2 the time Krang's an Utrom.

gobo 07-13-2011 04:27 PM

But, in that strip, they don't say that he was an Utrom, just that he was banished from their homeworld. Perhaps he was just trying to blend in with them until he got in trouble with the authorities. Dun dun DUNNN!!
