I love those pieces...plus, 75 bucks for an original commission seems like a great deal!

discordiatookie 07-21-2011 05:42 AM

How cool is this? Gonna have to get me a commission! Hmm, gotta get me some cashola first...

agliarept 07-21-2011 01:54 PM

very very cool saw this on the email from heavy metal. sent out a few requests for covers and hopefully they come some time sooon. can't wait.

Eastman is an awesome dude!

OA 07-21-2011 04:57 PM

Should be interesting to see what sort of goodies he brings out. Most of it is from the heavy metal site but there are a few nice new pieces.

Samhain 07-23-2011 07:21 PM

Cool! Now, if only he would stop smoking so I can get a commission from him. Yuck.

Some people:

1) Don't like the smell of smoke (it can cling/absorb into paper)
2) Are allergic to smoke

Thanks Danny. Yeah, it is a bit of an annoyance to me. I have asthma and that smell does irritate me a bit.

twopinacoladas 07-24-2011 10:57 AM

Once I get a better job, I am going to have to get a TMNT page pinup commission =)

Well, even if he's not smoking while doing the commission it will still end up catching the scent. That stuff is strong and will stick to clothes, hands, and paper.

But, I emailed them with my concern and was told for the older pages that it has been exposed to cigg smoke but as far as commissions go, Kevin has since quit smoking. Which is fantastic news to hear. Glad he kicked the habit and will be healthier. Now, if only they could put some pics of what his commissions look like.

I have seen the freebie sketches he does but would like to see what he does for a paid commission. Really want to see his color work aswell.

Powder 07-24-2011 08:22 PM

I'll probably jump the gun & get one without even seeing others 'cause between the layouts I've seen for IDW, and his free sketches, I know the pieces will be of great detail.

No doubt. To get a cover recreation of the first issue would be epic to get from Kevin. Now, if only PL did something like this...

As much as I think the idea of a recreation is awesome, I don't think I'd ever bite... I feel like I'd be really bothered by knowing it's not the original. A pinup of a character taking a pose from a favorite panel or something on the other hand, I could see going for.

I don't usually like them either if the artist has the same style he drew the original one in. But seeing as how Kevin's style has changed so much since then, I think it would be awesome.

Quite true, even more so in the case of Jim Lawson. See the pic below (taken by Archon Turtle).

I dub thee, Sir Obvious.

But seriously, when people say, "I really don't like Jim Lawson's style!" we usually mean the recent stuff. ;)

Powder 07-24-2011 08:58 PM

I'm not trying to make note of the obvious change in Jim's style, but rather that it's cool to see even though it's a recreation it's vastly different, making it worth getting as Samhain said...

Oh...well....oops. My bad.

I haven't heard back either, though I only sent my email a week ago.

Samhain 08-03-2011 10:21 PM

I've exchanged a few emails with them. But now it's been a few days since I recieved a reply.

Powder 08-03-2011 11:17 PM

Dunno 'bout you, but it's killing me, haha.

Powder 08-07-2011 06:14 PM

Sorry to double post, but I figured I'd let you two (and anyone else from afar) know that I heard back and my commission is being taken.
Hopefully you guys will see the same results! My request apparently "tickled" Kevin, ha!

agliarept 08-07-2011 07:35 PM

awesome. I hope to hear from them this week.

Should I just be patient and wait for you to show off the commission, or can I ask what you asked for?

Powder 08-07-2011 08:27 PM

I'm gonna keep it to myself 'till I get it. They said allow 8 weeks but I figure it'll be done before then.

Totally understandable. Can't wait to see it. :D

agliarept 08-07-2011 08:52 PM

Heck Yea!! I think a lot of us on the drome will get some awesome stuff!

Lets hope Peter Laird does the same (doubt it) but I can dream!! lol

Samhain 08-21-2011 01:12 AM

Has anyone placed an order for a colored commission from Kevin? I asked to see a sample but they never replied. I am a big fan of Eastman's art but his black and white stuff just doesn't do it for me. Looks much better with color IMO.

gbhq 08-21-2011 10:13 PM

I cant believe, I never saw this thread, I always wanted something to hang
on my wall done by him, this is my chance - hopefully he doesn't not get tired
of doing them, I don't want to miss my chance.

Kevin was nice enough to draw all four turtles for me on my copy of artobiography, I head he rarely does that, only single figures.

For sure. Old Jim great, new Jim...well, it's been said in another thread. :D

Looking forward to seeing your commission, Powder!

Powder 09-19-2011 04:19 PM

For those of us chompin' at the bit-

IDW is working me really hard - loving it though. Working on the 4th issues layouts, which are due this week, and the final annotations for the first Ultimate Collected--and doing 400 sketch covers--if you are waiting for a commission from me please be patient and I'll include an extra special signed something for you. Thanks to you all for all your support!!
- Kevin

I wonder what the extra special signed something will be... :D I'm seriously dying of anticipation, though. I want my mish!

Any word on your commission yet?

That's a terrible example... the one on the right is inked by Peter Laird and throws a lot of his own style into the mix. A better example would be one Jim pencilled and inked back then... like #28.

Yeah, it's been 13 weeks instead of 8 & I still have jack sh*t to show for my money. My emails have not been answered for a few weeks, either.

Not happy.
