I never really made a central thread for this stuff so here it is. I run a translation group. We release TMNT stuff due to help from DrSpengler and oldmanwinters.

This one was... Erm. Weird. And kind of icky in places. You shippers should get a kick out of it.

Though I found his "sexy" drawings of April kind of repulsive cause the artist went with the "big-headed quasi-child" effect for her, and I just don't dig that.


Still, parts of it were amusing, though I'm really looking forward to the third volume the most, as it's a less truncated version of the OVA (very different in a lot of places and not a straight up adaptation).

Before that, though, there's a positively INSANE short from Comic Bom Bom that needs to be done.

The Shredder attacks the Turtles with a robot shark dressed like Indiana Jones, if you want a hint.

OoC, which came first: OVA or manga?

They were both released the same year (96, I believe), so it would come down to a matter of month and the indicia doesn't include that info, I'm afraid.

Yup, that about sums it up.

I was thinking something was kinda off, I guess that explains (some) of the weirdness of the whole thing.

Looked up a little bit of info on the publishing date of Super Turtles #1, Mark.

It's Amazon Japan page lists the publication date as July 1995. The first issue of the Dengeki Comic also appears to be copyrighted in 1995.

EDIT: Looks like the Shogagkukan TV book that was based on the Super Turtles got a May 1995 release.

Ah, then the manga came first.

According to the Japanese wiki article, the OVAs were released in 1996.

My favorite part is page 57....

Especially Spengler's notation: "I wish I was dead!"

He only had to translate the page one time. oldmanwinters only had to scan it once or twice. Me? I had to crop it, straighten it, adjust contrast, clean the borders, clean the bubbles, and write all the new text in. 8(

Kind of a sad thing to share so much work on but...it must be done!!

All books appear to be published by Takeshobo in November, 1995 at 27 pages each. Sadly, they all appear to be unavailable.

On a related note, now that the OITG's superior versions of the manga are available on convenient .cbr files, I've been considering deleting the crappy lettered-with-gimp pages from my site.

They're kind of embarassing, now, and though I spent a crap-load of hours making the links from page to page (suuuuuch a pain in the ass), I'd sooner have them gone than keep em.

Downloaded, will get to reading these soon.

But more importantly, I'm interested in why Roll is naked on some of the covers to that Mega Man series. :D Downlooooaaaaadiiiiiing!

Just a little complaint: I'm kinda bummered that The Shredder is referred to as Saki when in Japan they changed his name altogether to something more Japanese ("Saki" meaning pretty flower or something like that and not really a name you'd give to a boy). I kinda wish that had been retained. Just nitpicking. :p

She's naked on some of the covers, because she's naked most of the time in the comic itself. Enjoy the shiny metal nipples and robo-panties.

That's all DrSpengler's decision. I argued for keeping SAWAKI-CHAN~ for pure comedy value, but he had his reasons. Maybe someday I'll do an "editor's cut" full of dumb stuff like that for laughs.

I like it when Krang annoys Shredder by calling him Sawaki-chan in the OVAs, so yeah, I was hoping all that would be retained here. :p

When you come to a panel with Saki, just read it as Sawaki-chan, out loud, at high volume. I'm sure everyone around you will appreciate it too.

I use the same mindset for my TMNT translations as I do for my Transformers translations.

This is an English language version so I use the English language names (Saki over Sawaki, Optimus Prime over Convoy, etc).

I don't much care for "TV Nihon" style translation, either; leaving in stuff like honorifics and slang untranslated.

Yeah I'm sure every single time an honorific comes up it would be a long name and a tall, skinny bubble too, so I'm certainly not going to cry over not having to deal with "Donatello-san" forcing me to use a cramped font all the time.

Sometimes I do totally wish I could be using "henshin" instead of "transform" though. But I am a Kamen Rider fan too so I'm probably just biased there (it sounds cooler, damnit).

(also i meant no anger or offense in my comments about your translation style, if any was taken, just wanted to clarify the situation)

are these cbr or jpegs?

CBR which is just a RAR archive of jpegs renamed for comics reader programs.

CBRs with either JPGs or PNGs inside, yes. There are various comic book reader programs out there, or you can open them with winrar or 7zip or whatever you use and extract them. You can also rename the file from <name>.cbr to <name>.rar and extract from there if you'd prefer.

Okay, TMNT Entity is going on another manga-related hiatus as I complete translations of Super Turtles Vol. 3, the final volume in the series.

It's a bit tougher than I was anticipating; 11 pages in and already Krang and Shredder are having lengthy pun-related conversations and those are a PAIN IN THE NECK to try and translate (not literally, but rather, come up with equivacal stupid jokes).

Still, I'm thinking under a month and I'll have it done (gotta full time job and college classes going on, too). Then it'll be off to Cryomancer for lettering.


And in case you missed the earlier releases, they're available on Mediafire so the Megaupload apocalypse didn't lose them forever or anything.

Can we not actually edit thread titles? I did the "go advanced" and all that but it's still saying Volume 2 on my end.

The delay on this one was a little embarassing, but finishing my degree and then moving cross country set me back some unfortuante months.

I'm glad to finally have the complete Super Turtles Trilogy done with, though, and I want to thank Cryomancer and Adam Winters for making it possible. The translation is the EASY part. It's the scanning and editing that are the REAL pain in the ass.


It might not be for a while, but I would like to tackle the Comic Bom Bom adaptation of TMNT III next. That thing is just BONKERS.

Spengs, I actually sent James Eatock an email today letting him know that you guys finished the project. I'm not sure if he'll be able to update his article at this point, but the Super Turtles article isn't scheduled to come out until issue #10 and he hasn't even finished issue #9 yet. So there is at least a chance he might be willing to read it and make some updates.

For folks having a hard time downloading from mediafire, use a download manager like GetRight. I waited an hour for IE to download 20% of Part 1 of the complete Gaiden. Then, I used GetRight's segmented downloading function, and it went from 0 to 100% in less than 10 minutes. That "Mega" site wouldn't even load for me. :ohwell:
