Should I Watch Next Mutation?

My impulse is not to; it looks silly, and I would rather deepen my appreciation of the Turtles by other means.

But it's just one season. Should I watch it?

ToTheNines 10-20-2011 11:39 AM

Depends on how turtle crazy you are.

I'd say yes though. It's really not as awful as some people would have you believe.

If you have the spare time and nothing else to do then I'd say go for it... It's worth a watch...

I'd say watching simply the first five East vs. West episodes with Shredder is good enough to get a "taste" of what the series is about. For the rest of the series, watch them if you want live-action, otherwise, if you've hit a point after watching a few episodes and just weren't impressed, then feel free to move on. After all, this series had no proper finale. However, there are even a few action figures based on NT:TNM.

sdp 10-20-2011 12:52 PM

I'd say yes watch it. Is it silly? sure but so is a lot of the OT and you have an OT avatar. The fifth turtle of all people. Some episodes are more silly than others and some are actually good, I disagree with the five parter there are superior episodes later on in the series. The show also has mostly a unique rogues gallery and all the new villains are pretty cool for the most part, in some episodes they are written silly and poorly and in others you can see they are pretty cool, I'd love to see TNM villains return in another incarnation written better. Fight scenes have slapstick sounds, if you can deal with that and sometimes the villains acting too looney then you can enjoy TNM I think.

CyberCubed 10-20-2011 01:02 PM

Its not very good, but its still watchable.

I think the show would have been 10 times better if:

- There was no silly sound effects during the fight scenes. WTF?

- Venus didn't exist, so it'd simply be a live-action continuation of the movies

- Shredder wasn't handled so badly

Also, 26 episodes was too much. They would have had less stinkers if they'd kept it to 13.

The fact that the show had TWO clip shows said a lot in itself. The show is really only 24 episodes long.

It isn't as bad as people make it out to be. It's worth a watch.

That's pretty much what I used to look like when I was a kid, except I had nunchucks made out of sticks and shoelaces.

:tlol:

OK, I give. I'll watch it.

Stingray69 10-20-2011 01:19 PM

Yeah watch it. I did i want back and watched it on the net because I really couldn't remember to much about the show expect how exited i was when it first came out as a little kid. I really think it get a much worse rap then it deserves.

I'm no expert when it comes to the Next Mutation series. I saw a little bit of it, not all that much though. But when it comes to TMNT drinking games, it's gotta be done watching the original cartoon series.

Im agree, and add my positive vote for watch the NM show...! :twink:

Jester 10-21-2011 12:53 AM

Most of my experience with NT:TNM is [I]East Meets West[/I ] the "movie" cobbled together from the first 5 episodes of NM. It's not the best Turtle thing ever, but Turtle Tunes and Turtle Christmas are much worse.

TheCanadiandrome 10-21-2011 01:05 AM

I'm thinking of importing from uk amazon

Come to me first. Been looking to get rid of mine for years.

Bauer536 10-21-2011 07:29 AM

Well, Dirty Blond, I don't know. It looked like the Adam West Batman meets the Linda Carter Wonder Woman meets the original movie turtles. It looked cheesey. Venus looked like she ruined the show. If they bring her back for this new series (now that Laird is out of the project:tgrin:), they better conjure up a good story for her.

Plus, I'm not sure if April and Casey were on this series. There weren't any action figures of him.

Can't remember if April was in the series but Casey wasn't. He was going to be introduced in the second series (which never happened.

Dirty Blond: Here's a video review of Next Mutation by Michele Ivey it may help you make an informed decision

Oh god. Don't tell me this is a sign that the new 2k12 series is going to flop just like this one. They better introduce Casey by the time the second season comes out. In fact, there better be a second season for this show! :tcry:

PizzaPower 10-21-2011 10:32 AM

i love it and wished there was a 2nd season, im just glad i do have the complete first season.

CyberCubed 10-21-2011 11:41 AM

Neither April nor Casey were in Next Mutation.

Other than the Turtles and Splinter, the only other old character was Shredder, who was only in 3 episodes.

Next Mutation pretty much used their own characters.

Oh really? Hm.. Got me thinkin

Cowabunga Carl 10-24-2011 11:25 PM

I really wish this had had a proper DVD release state side. I think it suffered a lot because of the lack of established characters. They did try to do their own thing and I think it hurt them. That and it tried to be a sequel to what came before, but what part is hard to tell. There really wasn't any real established background going in and none really set up.

That, and if someone took a big, steamy dump on them. :twink:

I'll echo everyone that says it's worth watching and that it's not as bad as everyone says. But it's still pretty damn bad. When I was watching it for the first time earlier this year, I could only watch an episode or 2 at a time. Anymore than that and I figured my brain would implode.
