Art Battle
Hello, Ulisses31 and i thought this would be a fun new idea soo heres what he came up with:
Hello forum artists, this is the "Art Battle". The place were you are not alone with your art. Just get a friend and start a match. Here artists pair up from time to time to offer unique renditions of certain characters and peers could compare the styles. More of a round-robin form of recreation than an actual competition. First Art Battle - Nicko vs CaseyJonesFan Who will be next? |
Ohhh pick me pick me! :)

Hey Buffy do you accept Redeemer challenge? Now you two need to set the rules for the battle, example: choose a character or else, choose an end date or something, choose a weapon LOL or not :o
|
Can I join in?:)
My challenge is to draw Leonardo, in whatever media takes your fancy. I'm going for good ol' pencil, ink and copic graphic markers. End time: tomorrow midnight! |

One thing I hate about the current setup of the "Redesign Contest Series" is that it all comes down to clicking the poll without any opportunity for feedback for the artists' sake. Thus, I'll try to offer some helpful compliments/critiques for both pieces. Nicko's Casey Jones Nicko's Casey Jones is certainly pretty messy at this point, due to it being very much a sketch. However, I do give him credit for his ambition for the background. He was trying to really set the stage for the action, and I would love to see this cleaned up a bit so that the art can really shine through. Regarding the sense of depth and perspective, I think this piece falls just a little short of the intended effect. Casey's upper body is clearly supposed to be tilted (right arm in front of left arm as he's bringing his stick over his head), but it looks a little flat from the frontal view. I think it's only slightly off target however. It's a good pose overall. Also, kudos for the Turtles in Time reference! Now I really want to see you flesh out an appropriate video-game-esque background! CaseyJonesFan's The Catwoman from Channel Six I've always liked the look of April as a cat-mutant. It's not a fetish or anything (because there are some weird ones out there), but I just think she looks awesome that way. He really nailed the face and hair, which look very close to her appearance in the Fred Wolf episode (which appeared to vary slightly from scene to scene, ironically). I was surprised he decided not to draw the belt on the jumpsuit, but it looks good anyway, the unobscured zipper really gives her a sleeker look. All the details on the jumpsuit are good, showing he paid attention to the original character design. I have trouble drawing folds and creases on clothing, but you seem to have simulated them very realistically. The tail is staged well, although I think it may be a little shorter than it should be. I like how he rendered that text, with the CWfC6 text big, bold and outlined with some depth and the "April O'Neil" looking very cute and feminine (he did dot the "i" with a heart!). It's a small detail, but I think it adds a lot to the piece. Obviously, the big problem here is that right hand/paw, which the artist admitted gave him trouble (I can see the eraser marks from earlier, failed attempts). The left hand looks fine (glad you remembered her wrist watch!), but that right land looks like it got cut-and-pasted onto the wrist. Making the hand a little bigger would help fix that problem AND it would give you a chance to showcase her fearsome claws! While I don't consider myself a great artist, take a look at one of my takes on the character and see what I did with the hands; it might give you some ideas on how to improve. I second the call to color this! I can promise you an instant "fave" if you decide to upload this piece to a Deviantart account. |
Thanks for the thorough input :D maybe i can clean it up & give the foreshortening another go..
