What color is Mutagen?
So if memory serves me right, in the 87 series Mutagen was a glowing purple/pink ooze. In the first movie, it was a translucent green color, while in the second movie it was a bright and vivid almost grass green. The Playmates figures had canisters of ooze that were sometimes green light-piping. I have no idea what it looked like in the 2k3 series.
Is there an official color for mutagen, or does it just change for ever depiction of TMNT? Also, does anyone have any screen caps from the old show where mutagen is being used? |
Mostly green. I think the only time it's purple is in the pilot of the FW series and the "Foot Ooze" toy. It was tutti-fruttie in Were-Rats, but in I think everything else, it's mostly green.

Wasn't it purple-ish-pink in Turtles Forever?

I'm gonna go with green, but it can appear to be a translucent pink in certain kinds of lighting.

In the first two episodes it was purple which was what Turtles Forever based it on. Pretty much every appearance since then it was green although I suppose it could be a different kind of mutagen.
The big discrepancy is "Michaelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko" were they depicted the turtles being exposed to the mutagen completely differently to how it was shown in "Turtle Tracks" complete with green mutagen. |
Here are some mutagen screencaps from the various season of the OT.

Big Bug Blunder
Big Bug Blunder is also green.
|
maybe one of the ingredients are food coloring, any food color works :P
|
It's funny to see how many times the color was changed! I definitely like the green ooze best...followed by the RAINBOW! Hehe just kidding, followed by the purple.
|
Pink and green
Looks like the first mutagen was pink, while later seasons would go for green.
|
All the colors of the rainbow!
The yellow mutagen in Michelangelo's Birthday seems to be a variant that makes whoever gets sprayed blow up like Harry Potter's aunt. Yet Shredder apparently never bothered to keep the formula for what nearly defeated the turtles. Maybe they could have done something where other colors of mutagen have different effects, like kryptonite. |
Green
Green is also what's probably most famous.

Then again this is the cartoon were Donatello had a ray gun that changed peoples personalities just laying in a wardrobe yet never thought of using it on Shredder or Krang but was okay with using it on his brother. |

I think there were at least 3-4 plotlines where Shredder loses his mind. |
Greens my favorite color and what I think of when I think ooze. But I quess it can be any color.
Any one else remember this ooze? http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMG_0715.jpg |
Leo looks absolutely bored on that box
|
38 cents? Boy, have things gone up in value since then! And why would Mike and Don have to "share" a box?
Still, brings back memories when Nabisco commercials ended with NAH-BISS-CO! (ding) |
I always wondered the same thing about box sharing. I feel like they got the short end of the stick. I mean I can't imagine they only had three flavors. Then again maybe they did and that's why they have to share.

I was rewatching some old TMNT Playmates toy commercials, and they usually refer to mutagen as "retromutagen". The file cards refer to mutagen as that as well. Is "retromutagen" the full term for the ooze? :tconfuse:
|
Isn't retro-mutagen the stuff that would turn them back to turtles/original state and mutagen the stuff that mutates you? That's why Shredder tried to attack with retro-mutagen not mutagen he wanted to undue the mutation not mutate themfurther.
|
That's what I figured.
|
Ya know what. I think there's a pretty easy answer to this question. The color of mutagen is whatever food coloring Shredder and Krang had available in the kitchen cabinet that day.
|
In any case, it suits well with classic Nickelodeon with all that Gak and Slime they did!

(Talking about the original cartoon here.) Maybe, if we're looking for some kind of explanation for "pink" and "green", we could say that the "original" mutagen that mutated the Turtles was pink. Once Shredder found this out, he obtained the rest of that "original" mutagen. Then, when that ran out, he started to have to manufacture his own, which came out green, because it wasn't the "original" mutagen, it was "processed" mutagen.
It could explain why the earlier episodes seemed to have pink, and the later ones had green. Shredder ran out of the "original" stuff, and started having to make his own "synthetic" stuff. Maybe? Eh? Eh? (Outside of the cartoon, I'll always think of mutagen as green, though.) |
