Future IDW one-shots
Won't mention who mentioned it accidentally to me, just in case, although I can't imagine them getting into trouble for letting it slip, but you never know...
Anyhow, the next set of one-shots are being thought through and will apparently cover Splinter, Casey and April. Might be a fourth. Nice to know that everyone might get a fair crack of the whip, and that they won't just be about the turtles. |
great news, mayhem!thanks for sharing!!man a splinter or shredder one shot by stan would be high heaven for me...
|
Hmm... I still think it's a little premature to go with an April One-Shot at this point. I would prefer she be fully integrated into the turtles' lives and familiar with their rogues.
I mean, what kind of plot can you give her at this point? Tentative Synopsis Quote:

Or maybe it will be about her transition from science to journalism. :) |

I'd buy an April comic with that summary.
|
I am up for anything Stan Sakai does...
Splinter suits best probably, yeah... Also i would want a Rat King one shot if he ever gets into the IDW-verse and drawn by an artist whose style is both dark and sarcastic... Kelley Jones , Sam Kieth or Simon Bisley would make me ultra happy. |

I think by the time this issue comes out, she'll be introduced to the Turtles. So the balancing college with a crazy secret life might make it similar to the Stephanie Brown Batgirl series (which would be a great thing). Actually, an April O'Neil comic that was similar in tone to the previous Batgirl series would be something I'd want at least a 12 issue limited series of. :) |
Great news! I can't wait to read Splinter's one shot. Honestly though, I could do without Casey & April (unless Ross does the art of course!) I'd rather see a Baxter Stockman and Shredder one-shot, respectively. Or even Old Hob.
|
if was in charge of an April one-shot it would be mostly her doing everyday mundane stuff, which i think would be cool as a contrast to the Turtles' world, a nice way to temper the fantastical elements which i always felt April's presence did. i think April trying to get work done while the Turtles and Casey are always barging in would be cool, or in issue #5 it's mentioned she's going home for Christmas somewhere upstate so maybe the farmhouse could be introduced that way.
and it would be cool to further April's self-defense stuff and have her enter some kind of low-level fighting tournament at a local dojo or something and she has to figure out some killer MMA hold to beat her opponent! i like the idea that Tom set up that the Foot break-in at Baxter's lab was a wake up call and pushed her into being more physical in order to defend herself. blah blah blah |

No offense to Brian Lynch, but I really really want Tom to write any future Micros. And I want a Shredder issue more than any other character.
But, I'm pretty pumped to see David Peterson's take on Splinter. That'll be great. |

I'm now imagining April O'Neil going up against Cobra Kai in Karate Kid. :) Maybe there's an evil sorority of martial artists, and the head of the sorority would be like Johnny, giving April a hard time at the dance. Then Splinter would teach her the crane kick...I'll stop now. |
I want J. Scott Campbell to do the April one-shot.
|
The 4rth should be shredder
|
The April one-shot will probably mirror #11 of Mirage.
|
I'm not surprised that we would see more one shots. It makes since when you think about it that there are so many characters and only so much can be covered in the main series. As for April, as long as it doesn't turn her into a drawing I'd be cool with just about anything.
|
The mousers should have a one shot... They are all after all the most misbegotten and misunderstood characters in the TMNT universe.
|
The one-shots are definitely needed, in the main series there's not even enough time to explore each character with everything going on.
These characters definitely need to be fleshed out more. If the IDW series was the very first Turtle series ever, nobody would have any attachment to the characters because we barely know them. |

Still, having said that, I am really enjoying Tom Waltz' style, even if his dialogue comes off pretty corny sometimes, especially with the excessive use of "bro." But the juggling between multiple perspectives and storylines is done so well, there's no denying the skill involved. That's another reason I'm loving these straight-forward one-shots, as it really puts these characters in focus as opposed to the main series which we can see a much bigger story. The two series in conjunction is the perfect balance. Quote:

I think I would definitely enjoy a shredder/oroku saki or a "foot" in general one-shot. I wouldnt mind seeing why Saki even joined the foot or how he rose to power.
Or I wouldnt mind seeing the foot through the eyes of random foot soldier. |
In other, but related news, David Petersen told me IDW have asked him to do more one-shot covers in the future, and possibly the whole artwork to a one-shot. If time ever permitted. If you liked his covers, then this is definitely good news :tgrin:

All this talk of the micros officially continuing (I had asked Bobby about it last year and he stated the possibility), I really hope we eventually see the Fugitoid and get a micro with him too (the original Fugitoid one-shot could in essence be considered a micro). |
Awesome-I'd read a micro about anyone in the TMNT universes-April, Splinter, Casey, Old Hob, Shredder, Bebop, Ricksteady...a random mouser...anyone. Shoot, sign me up for a monthly based on the pizza guy.
|
Peterson was born to do a Splinter Micro.

In a parallel universe he was born to draw Turtles full-time. :twink: |
We did already get confirmation of more one-shots, ya know. Just not who (though it doesn't take a genius to guess).

I love having the micro-series! I'm definitely up to see it run casually alongside the main series.
A few things I would like to see from the micro-series... - More great characters from the tmnt universe getting their time to shine. Yes, The Shredder is a definite must. - To possibly read some "Year one" stories. If there is a rich story that can be told in the first 15 months of the turtles mutation, the red bandana's could once again be brought out. - Ambiguous future story-lines! Yes, there definitely needs to be a lot more developing of the characters, story, and universe before this can happen. That being said, I love the way Mirage would hop around in the time-line of the tmnt. Piecing together the mystery of the tmnt's future, is one of the most rewarding things in the Mirage series. I'd love to see some time-line hopping here as well! - Also, I wouldn't mind having these released the same day that the regular issues come out, even if it they only come out every two or three months. From what little I understand, comic deadlines are a hectic thing, and this could be far from possible, but I wanted to share my thoughts anyway. These are just some personal hopes of mine. I'm excited to see what the team comes up with! |
If they do villain one-shots other than Shredder, I would like to see more of Old Hob and Baxter before the events of issue #1.
Perhaps Alopex as well. |

You know, I wouldn't mind if Lynch stuck around for a bit on the micro's either. He's gotten off to a strong start. |

Peterson's covers are fantastic, this is great news to that there will be more one shots. I think a "Rise of The Foot" would be a great story for a one shot, and then have both a Splinter and an Oraku Saki one shot spin out of those and have it done like issue #5, part flashback part present day for each.

Hell yeah! Can't wait for it! Erik, Dan, and you have been tearing up that book!! I'm really looking forward to everything 2012 has in store for both Ghostbusters and TMNT!
