Plasticplayhouse's Collection
i dont have much of a collection. but what i do have, i feel is of substance.
i dont have pics/scans of all my art, so here's a few of the one's that i do have :) i commissioned an artist friend by the name of christopher tuppa, to do a few TMNT inspired Garbage Pail Kids (another passion) for me. i designed them and he brought them to life. it was a very fun project. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...kids_part1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ids_part_2.jpg i asked the same guy to give me TMNT inspired Madballs (80's toy) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...t_madballs.jpg this is another fun OT inspired commissioned piece from an artist named MAS. he's very tallented. i had a lot of input to the final look. it was a ton of fun. i'm using the final pic he emailed me before i received the original in the mail. i dont have a scanner, so this looks better than any camera shot i could take. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urtlepower.jpg |
here are a couple of originals from the great jim lawson
(this one is one of my personal favs from my collection) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...IE/JLtmnt1.jpg some very cool OA from the last published issue of the turtles http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...E/JLR2NY15.jpg this is an amazing piece i had commissioned from the very cool rick veitch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urtlesinks.jpg here is another favorite of my collection. the only customs that i actually made for myself http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...IE/tmnt555.jpg here is some scratchboard art that i did. took me 9 straight hours. its called pizza dude's got 30 seconds. i was inspired by an artist named andres lambrada (sp) on DA. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...gotseconds.jpg i have more art, but as i stated earlier, i never took pics. at some point i'll snap a few and post them. |
Nothing short of amazing!!!
|
Amazing indeed! Fantastic stuff here. The Mirage art is of course impressive but those Garbage Pail Kids cards take the cake!
I do hope you get around to showing off the rest of your art, too. |
man that art is awesome! i especially dig the Garbarge Pail Kids art!
|
A solid collection, man! Original artwork is by far, my favorite thing to collect. You have a lot of great pieces. My favorites are the two Lawson pieces. Those are awesome!
|
Nice collection really like the art :)

as also posted in the, "i got a new piece of art" thread...
here's a few more from my modest collection. i still need to take a few more pics. two pages from the awesome issue #32. i always thought Bode and Eastman made a great combo. i really loved this splash page as a kid when i first grabbed the issue off the comic store rack. i am very pleased to actually own the original. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...deeastmana.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...deeastmanb.jpg this is a sleeper page from issue #50 by E&L. i say sleeper because while yes it does not contain any awesome turtle shots or action depiction, it's extremely dynamic none the less. after a loooong time of checking it out, i finally decided to pull the trigger and get it before Christmas. what makes this page great in my opinion is what it represents. it displays 5 of the core characters throughout the entire arch and their journeys. old man Buscheyev (the guy who's life kind of shadows that of the turtles during this arch) Casey packing up his stuff and leaving, trying to move on to a new chapter in his life. Foot Soldier preparing a bomb (that blows up mr. Buscheyev's apartment) the Turtles who are trying to rebuild themselves. And April, who like Casey, is trying to move on and start anew. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/FUGAYZIE/EL.jpg this is probably the biggest piece in my collection, both size and place in TMNT history. Some will love it and many will not, but the art is undeniable. i remember in junior high i went to the comic shop to grab my regular issue of TMNT...well somewhat regular. as most remember the issues of volume one were anything BUT regular. there would be no rhyme or reason when an issue would hit the stands. you just had to wait for the word. well i stopped in to grab the new issue, but i had a hard time finding it. i asked Bill the owner where the new Turtle issue was and he replied that it was right in front of my face. this issue did not have the regular title header on the cover. the phrase, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was jumbled in with the rest of the artwork at the bottom of the page. the next question i asked Bill was if this was a regular issue or some kind of special. he assured me it was the regular issue. i grabbed it and checked it out still in kind of a disbelief. after i got over my stupid, "this is not the right header" issue, i realized that the art work was pretty cool. i had never seen the turtles drawn this way. kind of a combo between realism and cartoon. i was very intrigued. after reading it i felt the story was so-so (entertaining, kinda funny, but i was hoping to see canon), but i still really enjoyed the art. because i profoundly remember this issue, i was VERY happy to own this piece :) |
i ♥ the garbage pail kids parodies- too funny :)

ok this one is new. FINALLY! i landed an early jim lawson piece. this one is dated 1987. its a real nice sketch done with ink on art paper. its about 8x11. i LOVE the early renderings by jim. i'm so stoked to finally own one!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/004-1.jpg these next few have been in my collection for a while, just never posted them before. another early one from jim, though not AS early. this is a page from my favorite TMNT issue (asside from #1) #28, Son's of the Silent Age. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/007-3.jpg here is a cool ink on bristol sketch done by Rick Arthur (author of TMNT #44, the Violent Underground). Rick's a great guy and gave me a lot of behind the scenes info on the making of this issue. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/006-1.jpg |
Man I love it, great pieces

thanks everyone for visiting :) |
here's some more that i just got around to photographing.
i appoligize ahead of time for the crappy pics. a page from Rick McCullom's "Twilight of the Ring" that i picked up from Danny M. a few months back. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/006-3.jpg an easily recognizable piece from Matt Howarth http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/004-3.jpg i know some people dont like Matt's TMNT stories. i for one found them entertaining and i really like his artwork. Matt's one of those artists who NEVER sells any of their original art, but he was kind enough to make this recreation for me :) and a TMNT collection wouldnt be complete without a sketch from Mike Dooney! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/001-3.jpg edit: 4/16 just added this. my name's not mike, but i REALLY liked the pose of Donnie in this pic and he along with Leo are my fav turtles, not to mention i got it for a pretty good deal so i couldnt pass it up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/001-4.jpg |
Awesome Leonardo pic is awesome.

some of my swag from the boston comic con. i went with my son and had a blast. both kevin eastman and david petersen are GREAT people. both very personable.
petersen's splinter and raph. his rendition of splinter is one of my new favorites! i saw the splinter micro series teaser in the leo issue and knew i had to request a splinter sketch when i saw him at the con. i like it so much that it has tied eastman's as my all time favorite splinter rendition. now i soooo want another one! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/FUGAYZIE/034.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/FUGAYZIE/035.jpg eastman raph sketch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v243/FUGAYZIE/037.jpg |
DUDE!!! All the art you got is ridiculously awesome :D
|
thanks man :)
here's another addition. a recreation of the end to RTNY saga. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../JLRTNYend.jpg |
Dude that's wicked sick!
|
Awesome collection.....Do you frame of of this and wall mount it? or just store the pieces?
|
Great stuff. Love the Garbage Pail Kids. Seems like the sort of thing that you'd se on Woot or something. I know that I'd buy shirts of a few of those designs.

thanks for the compliments everyone! the TMNT style GPK's are amongst my favs as well. i had a ton of fun planning/designing them and working with the artist to get them just how i envisioned them. what you see is exactly the way i wanted them to look. mucho credit to the artist, chris tupa for being extremely talented and for being able to translate my verbally expressed visions to reality! trust me...translating someone else's mental vision into something tangible is EXTREMELY difficult. speaking of...here is the next wave of GPK styled cards i came up with. enjoy :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...tmntcards2.jpg i have another three planned, but wont get to them for another month or so. |

Sweet collection you've got man! Your commission that you got of the recreation of the end of the RTNY saga was actually what convinced me to get my pages from Jim!
It really is an awesome piece, apparently he thought so too because he put it up on his facebook lol |
Ross recently hooked me up with this little gem! it looks even beter in person. i love it!

Spoiler:
I have to say that is defenitely the most realistic representation of a ninja master rat. Great addition! And BTW, I think your criteria to request comissions is really impressive: one must have a real art sense to order such beautifull pieces ;) |

Hope you keep up with your beautifull collection! |
FINALLY!!! a Stan Sakai, Usagi/Leo original. I've been wanting one of these for years and have never been able to make it to one of Stan's shows. I move around a lot and it always seems like whenever Stan comes to my area, I'm always away in some other state. He had a slot open for a commission so I explained what I wanted and he hooked me up nice! I didn't even ask for Spot. He just threw him in out of kindness...BONUS :D
Big thanks to Kevin (not Eastman) for picking this up from the SDCC for me! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/014-3.jpg |
Awesome piece!!
Love the colored leafs, it was a nice touch |
Good lookin piece
|
Agreed.
You have a great eye for art. Usagi with the leaves is very well done. Love the TMNT with their bandani's off. Can't wait to see what you pick up next. |
This is a rough sketch Paul McCaffrey did while he was redesigning the toid for his IDW micro.

oooooh dude! Nice Score!!

it's funny, just a few days ago i contacted mark bode to commission a tmnt sketch. i couldnt afford what he quoted me (lets just say when i saw the $ i was like :o ), so i told him i'll pass. just days after, i found this for waaaay cheaper. life works in funny ways :D
this is a great piece. it was done durring mirage's hay day back in 1991. mark was still very active with the turtles then. this sketch took place between issues 32 and the times pipeline special. its 10x14 on duoshade (yay, i LOVE duoshade!). it was sealed up with plastic and cardboard backing. when i removed it, i noticed a little note that said, "bode original artwork for FOC book". that leaves me to believe that it may have actually been a published piece. published where exactly...who knows. if anyone know what FOC is or have you ever seen this pic before? i'll have to do a little digging to see what i can find out. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...YZIE/011-2.jpg |
awesome art man
