Your current job/career

What is your current job and how much are you making an hour?

I currently work at JFK for 40 hours a week plus overtime.

Peanut 03-18-2012 02:03 AM

I work as an internet shill. I weasel my way into online communities of varying types and sneakily attempt to sway opinions on different products. I also write a lot of fake reviews for products on websites to artificially boost scores/product review averages. 8)

Jester 03-18-2012 02:55 AM

Sounds like an interesting career field. How does one go about getting in on that?

I also work with computers. I'm a computer operator for a large, Arkansas based department store chain. From 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM 3 nights a week I make sure that certain processes run correctly. It takes about 5 minutes out of every hour, thus I have 55 minutes every hour to sit here and watch videos and type messages like this one. it's kinda dull, but hey it pays the bills...barely. I say that because I need to switch insurance plans. Right now I pay almost $800 a month. I'm hoping to cut that down by a couple hundred.

mysterycolor 03-18-2012 04:47 AM

i am still selling TMNT on eBay... the one and only employee of mysterycolor vintage toys :)

I'm not employed at the moment though I'm trying to become an online tutor. Hey, it'll put my degree to use, and that's what I really want.

The Stryker 03-18-2012 11:18 AM

Love Machine.

PAAATE 03-18-2012 11:30 AM

Screenwriter. Currently getting my first web-series produced. Also working as 1st AD on the production.

Not getting paid a lot, barely covers the bills (we don't have a huge budget or anything), but hey, this thing is gonna get recognized here in Sweden, so hopefully it will open up for bigger and better opportunities.

mcauley 03-18-2012 11:39 AM

I am the Assistant Superintendent on a High end Private golf course in PA. I am pretty much in charge of everything on property except inside the clubhouse. I manage the golf course, tennis, pool, paddle ball courts, clubhouse grounds and all native areas.

Pay is OK at the moment, but has the potential of being very good when I become a Superintendent.

Master Splinter 03-18-2012 12:00 PM

I am a network administrator. Also known as the computer guy.

I'm a Systems Administrator. I am known as the "IT Guy," as well. It's nice to have a relaxing office job.

Lordmylar06 03-18-2012 12:23 PM

Photo retouch for Neiman Marcus Online. I can make the straps on sandals magically float and seem to wrap around an invisible feet and legs through the magic of photoshop cs5.

OA 03-18-2012 12:57 PM

Marine biologist, working in a number of capacities: dolphin/sea lion/seal/ killer whale trainer with Sea World and Miami Seaquarium; work with sea turtle and other marine animal rescue, esp. when disaster strikes (after Katrina, the Gulf oil spill)...various other projects as they come up.

So yea, I swim. Alot. :)

I'm a test technician at an X-ray machine factory. Been there 22 years and get a decent salary. The overtime I got recently helped.

Before that I was an arcade game machine repairman, and you'll never guess what the most popular arcade game was at the time.

Any chance we'll see you being berated by Gordon Ramsey in the future? :P

Katie 03-18-2012 06:41 PM

Vice president in a good sized regional bank. I haven't been hourly paid in about 4 years...

Machias Banshee 03-18-2012 07:41 PM

Answering phones for the Federal Gov't. Seriously looking for something better... hopefully something involving desktop publishing or graphic design.

Best of luck, Machi.

Has the hammer finally come down or are you all still siting on pins and needles waiting for them to move?

Machias Banshee 03-18-2012 08:58 PM

Well, they've slowed down on lay-offs right now. After 8 months of it, it SHOULD be done.. I'm just so stressed with this job that it's affecting my health. A majority in our department is on some sort of anti-depressant (except me *knocks on wood*).

There's no way of climbing the ladder, and the quotas and paperwork required are ridiculous. The building itself is horrible - the air is so recycled and thick that you get sick just walking INTO the building, and then they keep it about 55 degrees, no matter if it's the heat of summer or the worst winter on record. You should not have to sit at your desk in parkas and sleeping bags to get your work done... [/rant]

So I'm looking around for something else.

I'm a Software Development Lead. I mostly write and maintain software, but since I also manage the company's servers, I could also be considered an administrator like Master Splinter and Ai.

TheCanadiandrome 03-18-2012 09:43 PM

I'm currently working as a Keyholder/Supervisor at Dollarama, and as a Concession Cashier at the Mosaic Place Arena

Cure 03-18-2012 09:58 PM

I have a tugboat...

...lolololololz.

SassyGal 03-18-2012 10:01 PM

Customer Service Rep in a call center. It's a government program so I get to listen to the best conspiracy theories Ontario, Canada has to offer. I'm trying to move up, but unless one does some serious booty kissing, it's next to impossible. The good part is I can crochet at work so I will never run out of blankets, scarves, or hats! :)

Archon_Turtle 03-18-2012 10:06 PM

I was most recently A Game Designer (Creative Development/Publisher side) for Disney Interactive Studios. I've been in the game industry in various roles for the last 10 years.

About this time last year I was laid off with about 600 other people. Between my severance and unemployment, my wife and I decided it was totally doable for me to go back for my Bachelors before returning to the game industry (I'm not wiping my butt with $100 bills, but we aren't destitute either). So I'm in the middle of that. I am a year in with a year to go.

So I guess my current profession is full time student :-)

Currently trying to get a job in law enforcement and thinking about going back to school for nursing.

I had one a while ago (when they first debuted). It was ok, but nothing to write home about...

Then perhaps you'd be interested in the new McDonald's Chicken McBites? These extremely poppable seasoned premium chicken breast bites may be tiny in size, but they're huge in taste!

I've debated them, but they aren't high on my list...
