Save the Turtles. Keep them out of the Bay.

I was excited when I heard that Transformers was being made into a movie. Loved that show as a kid. I was excited to be able to share that with my kids, but soon found out that Micheal Bay ruined it. Ruined a show targeted at kids by making it: "Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action violence, brief sexual humor, and language"...

Really? SEXUAL HUMOR in a movie adaptation of a kids cartoon??? What a poser! I can't wait to hear Splinter 'make a funny' about masturbation... Oh, that's gonna be hilarious!!!!!! :tmad:

I think that if enough people share this viewpoint, maybe he'll get actual talent to write the script, and get actual talent to make the delivery of the story amazing not having to fall back on sex and foul language to try and make it good...

Take a stand and share:

Can somebody PLEASE lock this thread? If you don't want your kids learning about sex don't take them outside, and don't let them watch TV. Basically ya can't let them do anything. Jeeeeez.

Just to save you from further embarrassment pal, "Bay" is just his last name. Neither he, nor this movie, really have anything to do with Monterey Bay.

And for the hundredth time, he isn't directing, writing, or actually producing as far as we know.

Xav 03-22-2012 11:37 AM

He is executive producing.

ToTheNines 03-22-2012 11:41 AM

Which means he might have very little involvement. Remains to be seen.

unclanrhino 03-22-2012 11:55 AM

lol, I thought he was directing it. That's a relief. Hopefully he's not directing the directors... Or the script writers...

Am I alone on this? Is there no one else who has 7, 9, and/or 12 year old daughters/sons who want to be able to enjoy a show once geared toward kids without having to give in to the idiocracy of someone elses poor comedic judgment/talent?

For the record, I did have to edit the other live-action turtle movies as well, be it mild, there was still un-necessary crap not suited for kids. My opinion, and I do exorcise the right to moderate how and who has input into my kids' brains...

If nobody agrees then I'll be happy to remove this post (...that apparently offends idiocracy... You go watch that dog on Transformers hump the mailbox. Go right ahead and bring you kids to that level. That's a good start.)

ZariusTwo 03-22-2012 11:58 AM

I watched Akira and Legend of the Overfiend way before I was supposed to. I turned out fine.

Go play soccor with your mom

I'm no one to tell you how to educate your kids, and I'm glad that you have every right in the world to do it just the way you want to. Now, I hope your request never gets taken into consideration, so all the rest of us can still choose for ourselves what we consider to be good or bad taste.

Galactus 03-22-2012 12:16 PM

To be fair I'd rather TMNT be kept out of reach of Bay because of this alien nonsense not to mention his propensity for making nothing more than enjoyable but otherwise shallow popcorn flicks out of stories that have the potential to be more.

Foul language and sexual innuendo (to a certain degree) would be fine with me. Both are present in the original version so no reason why they can't be in the latest.

CyberCubed 03-22-2012 12:18 PM

People actually think there's going to be sexual innuendo in the new movie?

What, Casey will call April a "babe" again? Seriously, its obviously just the usual Casey/April flirting scenes we saw back in the first movie.

unclanrhino 03-22-2012 01:31 PM

I meant to compare the original cartoons to Bay's history of degrading work. The original movies in my opinion were lacking, and I hope this new adaptation sets the story straight and doesn't make it as Galactus put it, 'shallow'. Boobs hanging out in slow-motion with thumping music (Transformers) is more than April/Casey flirting... It's shallow.

In the first live-action movie they screwed up with the origin (as told by the cartoon), saying Splinter was a pet rat. Why disconnect from the cartoon on that??? I think it's WAY more realistic and deep as told by the cartoon version; Splinter being a human that was hiding from the bad guy in America's sewers when he got mutated...

I seriously want this new one to be great, and I want to watch it in the theaters with my kids and call it so, but as far as I can tell the ONLY good thing that Bay brings to the table is his money.

No. I'm not a kid, I don't want a kiddy movie. You edited the other live action movies? LOL

Take them to watch Disney's CGI stuff...don't rain on the parade we've been calling for who knows how long - another mature Turtles movie alike to 1990's movie 1.

TurtleTitan97 03-22-2012 01:37 PM

The reason Splinter was a rat was because it was his original origin from the mirage comics. The turtles weren't like the catoon versions: They were darker and more violent too. The movie was based on those comics, that's why it is different.

...They were following the comic book origin you imbecile. The 4Kids cartoon has roughly the same story, and THAT was a kids show.

This is almost embarrassing.

As TurtleTitan said the reason the 1990 movie differs from the Fred Wolf cartoon is because it's a loose adaption of the original Mirage comics books taking a few tropes from the very different cartoon. I think we'll have agree to disagree on which is more "realistic". A fair asessment would be that both takes are unrealistic.

Another movie along the same lines but transposed to modern sensibilities would be the best route to go down creatively and commercialy imo.

This is awesome.

Bay is a hack, pure and simple.

And most of the people that are going around whining like children are idiots.

Blatantly ignoring facts just to cry about something that is probably not happening at all.

No need to apologize you NEVER looked like this. Earlier this weeks things were still a lively fun debate. Now it's just starting to get embarrassing!

Jester 03-22-2012 03:53 PM

Thanks FL. Like I said the tide has turned from Anti-Alien Turtles to just Anti-Michael Bay, and that's not a place where I am. I have little gripe with the man. My gripe is with and will always be with the potential for this movie to completely rewrite the origin...

Man, I feel like I've typed the same 2 or 3 sentences almost a dozen times. It's getting very old.

I am finding I don't even have a reason to reply in the movie section anymore because I feel like I just keep saying the same things over and over again about waiting for more information while others are screaming Bay is Hitler, it's getting to the point it's kind of giving me a headache :tlol:

Jester 03-22-2012 03:59 PM

But, Ninji, Michael Bay is a childhood rapist. He came to my house to tell me as much when he moved in down the block. We must demonize him and make him the issue and not the fact that the origin may be changed for no good reason.

I mean it's totally going to happen, too. Michael Bay has never just said inflammatory things to get free press from ticked off fan boys.

Well to quote the great Micheal Bay "kids are going to believe one day that these turtles actually do exist" He's selling it now as a "kids" movie.

We'll have to wait and see, but I'm willing to bet it ends up rated PG-13, and if so, for WHAT? A couple idiotic booby shots and a dog humping a mailbox? And really, is it worth it to you? Was it worth it to put that in Transformers? Would you take YOUR 7 year old daughter to see that and tell her "that's was realistic fun good time!"?? Is that 'more deep' or 'more realistic' to you? I don't get it. Was there stuff like that in Spider-man? How about Lord of the Rings

Movies can be good without it is all I'm saying, and Bay's opinion on "edgy" and "funny" is simply NOT for kids. Not for my kids.

My opinion is based on the fact it's a ninja turtle movie for kids, and Bay is going to disappoint the many morally-sound parents who loved the cartoons.

Jester 03-22-2012 04:23 PM

The PG-13 rating tells you as a parent if you should or shouldn't take your 7 year old. If you feel she's ready, let her go. If not, don't it's as simple as that. But TMNT isn't a franchise just for kids (though it will be pimped to the nth degree to sell movie tie-in toys, clothes, and backpacks) and the movie has to cover both those people who are like me and will be pushing 30 when this hits theaters and the "kids" that Michael Bay mentions. Heck...there are still even kids from 13 years old on.

Heck, if you have to censor the PG movies from the 90's for your kid, then I'm sure this movie won't be for you.

I concur, and thanks for the info on the comics. I don't have any memories with the comics, just the old cartoons and books. Good to know, and I do apologize to the elite fans if I'm coming off as a n00b lol. I just hate what Bay did with my beloved Transformers! Here's to hoping the turtle movie is good through & through. :tsmile:

Candy Kappa 03-22-2012 04:49 PM

Coming home from work all tired, this thread was a life saver. Hilarious reading it, just hilarious.

I'm not gonna be that guy, lecturing about comic characters history (although I feel like I often am that guy) but at least research a bit before writing left and right what is the original

Spoiler:
That's how I learned that the wife of the Phantom in Lee Falk's The Phantom have been given different name in the Norwegian comic version, completely confusing me as a kid when I saw the movie.

Not to defend Bayformers 2 electric boogaloo, but are those movies really a good example, I'm pretty sure Mary Jane got some see through clothes in the rain of the first movie, and LOTR got a huge on-screen death counter. Unless you are one of those people that think death and violence are a-okay, while some cleavage and nipple slip are an act of utter evil.

True, good point. Probably not. (Which is why I'm pissed.)

And if the script and direction of Transformers was for YOU, then I'll leave you to it. I didn't realize there were so many Bay lovers.... :ohwell:

But really, I would be bringing my family of 5 to see it in 3D, which is darn close to $100, then buying it on DVD & BD, and all the toys that go with it, while lonely people without kids just looking for a dog-humping cleavage-thumping good ol' time, bring in, what? Just the one ticket...

Just for fun --
What does this smiley remind you of?: :trazz:
1) Slow-mo cleavage.
2) Dogs humping mailboxes.
3) When I was a kid in the late 80's, the TMNT cartoons were good wholesome shows for KIDS. And Micheal Bay suxorz.

I don't want to dump on Bay, but admittedly, that slogan or Subject line is kinda catchy. Even if it reminds me of "Save the cheerleader, save the world."
