Stupid things done for love

I find that, sooner or later, everyone does something embarrassing or dumb to impress the opposite sex.

For example, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow with a young, beautiful, super-intelligent doctor. Thus, I've been brushing, flossing, and using mouth wash five times a day.

I'm sure that'll make her pop the question as she's scraping plaque off my molars.

Hindsight being 20/20, what's the most embarrassing, pointless, or dumb thing YOU'VE done to get someone to notice you?

Hannah 04-05-2012 12:10 PM

Pretended to abandon my very strong political beliefs for the sake of an emotionally abusive and manipulative high school boyfriend.

I also stopped talking to one of the most important people in my life because it made said boyfriend uncomfortable.

Long story short: boys stink and I did stupid things for them in high school.

Katie 04-05-2012 05:39 PM

that's not because of love....it's because of terrible self esteem issues. If you are afraid that some guy won't like you if you talk to some one....or won't have sex with them before you're ready for that in a relationship...or whatever....that's a self esteem issue.

I think the silliest thing I've done for love is let a guy who was way less intelligent than I am think that he was the smartest guy I'd ever met. That relationship lasted all of three months before I got fed up. he still called me for months after I broke up with him because he "had never felt so good with a woman before". Poor guy. He's married to a brow beating harpy now.

ToTheNines 04-05-2012 05:45 PM

I played a lot of tennis with my ex and her family. Hatred every minute of it.

愛 04-05-2012 05:50 PM

I agree to go shopping. It's awfully boring, and there's never anywhere to sit down except for stores that sell shoes.

Cure 04-05-2012 05:50 PM

Tried long distance. Ugh.

Uh, no. I wasn't "afraid" of that happening, I was assured that it would and I genuinely thought I was in love, as much as a 14 year old can. Like I said, this guy was manipulative and abusive.

Katie 04-05-2012 08:58 PM

People who stay with "manipulative and abusive" people because they are assured that the relationship will end have self esteem issues. Specifically they have a hard time defining their value outside a relationship. I'm not talking out of my ass here, I volunteer at a battered women's shelter.

People who have a healthy image of themselves won't tolerate that kind of ******** and will leave. Immediately.

ToTheNines 04-05-2012 09:07 PM

I also had to see Bride Wars in theaters. What's the worst movie you guys have been dragged to?

You're an ass. Don't speak for victims of abuse.

Redeemer 04-05-2012 09:44 PM

Read Twilight

Good f*cking lord, you are insufferable. Why are you still here, anyway, when you have no real interest in holding a decent conversation?

I know two gay furries who do have a long-distance relationship (on opposite coasts) and have never personally met, yet one is absolutely deeply in love with the other. It's been that way for years, though I'm unsure how it will work out. (In speaking with "the other", I have found him both genial and intelligent. He spends a lot of time with schoolwork.)

BTW, speaking of Twilight, the first guy went to see the movie-to laugh at it, a la Mystery Science Theater 3000. The rest of the (mostly teenage girl) audience didn't appreciate that.

My guess, not getting validation at home so she needs to post here again so people will assure her of her self worth.

Low self esteem = needing people to tell you you're good/smart/pretty.....when people stop doing that you latch onto the next person who pays attention to you.....and end up in relationships where you don't really like the other person, but hey, they're telling you you're good/smart/pretty so you stay in the relationship for so long you get stuck.

I've done long distance. Not horrible as long as you trust the other person.

How far away were they? Cuz with me, we were countries apart and after meeting her, I waited yeeeeeeeeeeears for the chance she'd show up again. And she never did.

Spoiler:
Things you'd do for awesome booty, amirite?

How'd that go? Did she offer to do it doggy-style after seeing your squeaky-clean canines?

Thank you. I do this for a living.

Katie 04-06-2012 09:34 PM

The farthest apart I've been is a couple of states. Close enought that if the booty call is a necessity you can get there in less than a day......but far enough apart that seeing each other daily....weekly.....monthly even, is impractical.

My LDR's were because of school and jobs. One ended in break up, one did not. Trust and communication. If you need constant reassurance and attention they aren't for you. The best part is that you're always happy and excited to see that person (for me anyway).

Jester 04-06-2012 09:37 PM

I shot Ronald Reagan...wait...that wasn't me. Never mind.

Don't you mean John Kennedy? I've yet to hear any conspiracy theories from any side about the assassination attempt on Reagan.

Jester 04-06-2012 10:19 PM

I'll just leave this here...

Peanut 04-06-2012 10:43 PM

When my fiance and I started dating (7 years ago...good lord) it was the furthest someone I was dating lived from me, about 40 minutes or so. Because she was only 16 she had a lot of things that kept us apart during the week, the biggest of which was her super unsupportive parents, but we spent nearly every weekend together and the first summer we were dating we spent a full month at her house (her parents were on vacation).

After she got out of high school she got accepted at the University of Ottawa, so she moved much further away, so that it was several hours of driving and at that point in our relationship it was really hard not to see each other daily, but I ended up following her after about a month. I went out there for a long time and after a year we both decided it sucked and she transferred back into the GTA. We spent a year living with my parents then got our own place, which was the best thing that ever happened to our relationship.

I actually think the distance is something that made our relationship way stronger in the beginning. It definitely made the "puppy love" era of it last way longer than it usually does and I think that gave us the right amount of time to become completely infatuated with each other. It allowed us to get to the point where we were so attached that whatever annoying personal habits that always end up cropping up 6 months to a year into a relationship were easy to ignore, which I feel (from experience,) is something that can very quickly destroy a good relationship.

BubblyShell22 04-07-2012 08:17 AM

I haven't done anything stupid for love.

Type 97 Chi-ha 04-07-2012 02:38 PM

Remember the girl who has done a bunch of TMNT-related picture commissions, most involving tickling? Here is what she did.

She asked me to open wide, and I took off my pants. Things went downhill from there.

Women. . .

愛 04-08-2012 04:00 PM

You must have taken that move from me. It never works out, unfortunately.

You're f*cking scum, really. No. It's not okay to make blanket statements about victims of abuse because it's goddamn condescending, and it's irrelevant. This is a thread about stupid things done for love, and I was in love and did a stupid thing. Do you really have to barge in and announce how YOU KNOW it wasn't love because I just have ~low self esteem~ and you're TOTALLY always right? It's none of your god damn business.

I can assure you that if I needed validation from anyone, the last place I would go to would be a ninja turtles forum.

Y'all are wack.

What kinda ****ing nerve do you have sitting behind your computer on a ****-stain of an internet forum like this, trying to act like you know what goes on in my ****ing home? What makes you think you have license to tell Hannah what's wrong with her and apparently what's wrong with me as her boyfriend, when all she did was come in here and actually respond to the subject of the thread? Maybe you need to take a look at yourself and question why you're wandering uninvited into someone's personal affairs on a ****ing Ninja Turtles website.

Hannah's the best person to ever survive this hellhole, because she actually cares about trying to fight the ignorance and stupidity that so many people here are so comfortable wallowing in day and night and her only crime is wasting so much time on trying to enlighten people who refuse to come out of the ****ing dark ages of common sense.

Oh, and Rhen, feel free to examine what a colossal choad you are by throwing your weight around here and being an asshole to my girlfriend because you don't like her, and then ask me again why I don't wanna ****ing play WoW with you.

Dr. Doom 04-09-2012 12:52 AM

P.S.: TMB's cool too.

Dane E5R 04-09-2012 01:31 AM

Dr. Doom 04-09-2012 01:35 AM

Okay so there's probably a few more exceptions too, like my chocolate bear here, but most of you people make me wanna puke.

You know what my problem is with her? She has differing opinions just for the sake of being edgy and to have the ability to confront people in a destructive manner. She can't possibly truly believe everything she says. People like that don't exist. Double standards are everywhere in everything she says, and having a decent conversation with her is impossible because if you disagree with her opinion, you're wrong. We already have one ZariusTwo on this board, I really...REALLY don't need another. I'd put her on ignore if I could.

It's cool if you don't want to come back to WoW with me. I don't need your crybaby attitude towards the game and being ignored because you want some random stranger in your guild to be happier than your friends.

Katie 04-09-2012 07:21 AM

Say all you want to but the fact that both of you get your panties in a wad just tells me that I have touched a nerve.

Hannah's a good person? The Misandrist who says all men suck? That must make you feel awesome! Or. The fact that she goes off and grabs you to fight her battles because someone's picking on her? Wah wah.

I really like your other thread about what are you all still doing here. Perhaps you should ask your girlfriend why she came back to this place after both of you disappeared to live your "happy" life. Doesn't exactly smell right.

If you don't like how people are here and feel the need to battle the ignorance or whatever other bullsh*t makes you feel better about yourselves, you just need to GTFO. No one cares what you think in your little hipster bullsh*t world. I mean seriously. I'm pulling in a six figure income. How am I threatened or jealous of a f*cking cupcake decorator.

I'm laughing my a** off right now at this argument. It's just so funny and sad at the same time.

Dane E5R 04-09-2012 08:32 AM

Christ. For someone who volunteers to help battered women, you are being awfully judgmental. I mean, damn.

I've clashed with Hannah about a billion times, but the fact is that no one has the right to tell HER what SHE felt or WHY she did what. I don't think anyone posted here to be diagnosed, and I can't help but notice that she's the only one who has. Regardless of what you volunteer for, you're not in a better position to tell her about herself. I do not know you, so I will not tell you what you ARE, but you ARE coming off as very condescending. And, frankly, I don't know what kind of reaction you thought you were going to get with those "guesses" about her home life. That was petty, and since you appear to have been aware of the fact that the boyfriend she shares a home with also posts here, you had to know that that was going to stir up some ****.

Bottom line, Hannah simply posted a stupid thing that she did for love. No one had any right or reason to step in and say, "no you didn't."

I had just started collecting moc tmnt figures and my new gf was at an antique shop and found a princess mitsu, got it and surprised me with it the next time we went out. There's a ring hidden behind our picture in my room for when I'm ready.
