How Dumb Do You Like Your Casey Jones?
Do you want him as dumb (or dumber) as he was in 4Kids, or do you prefer streetwise Casey from the first film? I should say, IDW's Casey may be the sharpest stick in the golf bag, at least so far.
The issue is, just how dumb should he be in the Nick show? |
Pleeeease not as dumb as the 4kids version.
I think 4Kids Casey was a huge meathead, but he did have some okay moments. I wasn't too crazy about Casey in the comics either. I would also say IDW's Casey is actually the most engaging thus far, although same thing could be said for movie 1's Casey.
I liked him in the comics, a little overzealous sure but at least he wasnt stupid. Am i the only one who kinda likes the insane clint eastwood-esque version from the 87 toon?
As much as I love the '87 version, I don't love his character in a serious sense.
What I do love are his earlier comic appearances, his portrayal in the first movie, and how he's been coming along so far in the IDW material. I also liked him in the '07 movie. Some of his other Mirage appearances were fun, too, but I didn't really start to appreciate them until I got a bit older. While I didn't dislike him the the 4Kids version, he wasn't my favorite by any means. Sometimes I would love that portrayal, but for similar reasons to liking the '87 version. I did love having him as an extra character in the first 2k3 game, though. |
I feel that Elias Koteas was the best Casey. They wrote him just right, and his portrayel was amazing. Naive, maybe a bit ignorant, but not dumb.
IDW or First movie
I didn't hate the 4Kids version at all. Yeah, he would sometimes be dumb, but he could be deep, too, and really have his tender moments as well. I don't want Nick to make him a complete idiot. I'd like a balance where he's smart but does have flaws.
He needs to be humorous but not by his choice like when he was on the swing at the farm and it broke with him on it in the first movie.
I'd want him to be like his first movie version.
2k3 Casey is awful, way too dumb, but that was the problem with the show they exaggerated everyones personalities so much you couldn't like them.
Yes I do love Movie 1 Casey, and I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of the "Holy **** he is ****ing insane" Casey from the OT whether only in the beginning or only in certain situations but I'd love that. |
I wouldn't say he was dumb all the time, 2k3 Casey had some good moments and he was an interesting character. Felt sorry for him when it showed his dad was proberly killed by the Purple Dragons.
God, the new Casey better be smarter than he was in 2k3. I'd prefer he be more "streetwise" like he was in the 1990 film.
I would like to see a Casey similar to the first film's betrayal of him. Casey was a little too...dim-witted for my tastes in 2k3.
Agree with previous posters, Movie 1 Casey was my favorite, so I wouldn't mind him being portrayed as such in the new toon.
I think if everybody in charge realized just how much all of us die-hards love movie 1 and each character from it, we'd have nothing to worry about with future installments. That movie was seriously the perfect TMNT film.
Ok, i know i already said how much i enjoy the 87 toon version, not that its exactly what i want for the new show, but just take a look at the pure awesomeness that is Casey Jones:
Best part is at 1:50 "Face Stern Justice, Appliances!" I hope he's a little crazy, attacking loiterers and whatnot that dont really classify as the "scum of the city" :twink: |
I'm curious to find out who's gonna play him.

Id say first movie or 2k3 either or works for me. As long as it's not 87 levels I'm fine. I never noticed how 87 Casey seems to have a mental illness untill rewatching the ot years later. I just always remembered thinking he was real b a when I was young. Funny how you recall things sometime.
I have to defend 2k3 Casey for a minute here, I think he under went some good character development over the course of the series. He becomes a better character in season four, and as much as people hate on back to the sewers, I really like his development in that season. His feelings for April through out the series did alot for him.
I like the '87 series version for the humor related to his over the top an ger of ANY crime. I also wish he fleshed out more and we got to see his face at least once.I probably would want current and future version the Elias Koteas works best. I don't want Casey to be apart of the"family" but not as few as five appearances either.
I find that '87 Casey is a lot like Raphael outside of the '87 series in terms of attitude, which is why those turtles/April didn't get along with him that well. I much rather have a dumb Casey than a hothead, unless if Raphael is just as angst that he can complement a tempered Casey. But I'd wait until we see a good chunk of Season 1 to get a good feel of this show to see what kind of Casey I'd prefer, and I'm leaning towards the IDW-stlyed Casey.

Well he's a college athlete on scholarship, which is a lot more than we've seen any other Casey accomplish.

Elias Koteas' character had a brief NHL career before injury ended it. I thine that makes the movies version the most accomplished. A couple of versions have accomplished a lot of breaking things but not much else. |
I don't think movie Casey ever said he was in the NHL. He just said he played professionally, and he never said which sport.
all I kno is that he shud be no smarter than raph...tho that's not something I'm worried abt right now...

He was Way to dumb in the 80's cartoon!!!! The 4Kids Casey was a major Improvement....Maybe somewhere between 4Kids and first film? |
I think the OT Casey Jones with the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry thing was perfect. But out of the Hockey Mask I think the 1990 movie Elias Koteas is the perfect Casey not dumb but not the strongest vocabulary I didn't get the Claustrophobic joke till I watched the movie again in my twenties "You want a fist in the mouth? I never even looked at another guy before." :tlol: lol You can't have jokes like that in kids movies anymore. But like in all the BatMan movies other then Buttman and Rubbin by Joel Schumacher Batman always made his voice gravelly to hide his identity , so the idea that Casey is doing a Clint voice to hide his is great, I think Casey Jones from the fan film was a very good blend of the Movie and OT Casey as well and something along the lines of that portrayal would be ideal to me for the new cartoon.
Not sure about the 2k3 Casey, but if given a choice between the mediums I have been exposed to, I'd go with a mix between insane Casey (which I loved) from the OT and street smart, cool Casey from movie 1. For me, that would be perfect.
I'll have to say I really liked 4 kids Casey .
I was going to say that I want Casey to be as smart as the first movie Casey/first couple of Mirage appearances, but everybody here has done that already, so I'll go with a different choice:
I want him to be as smart as the Casey from Turtle Tunes. |
"Well I say my good sir, 'Goongala'"
*sips tea fancily* |
I don’t think Casey was that dumb in the 2k3 series, but compare him to the 1990 film version, then yes, he was.:tlol: The film version beats him by a landslide. As for the new series: Casey should be classified as a meathead to the public eye, but really, just act that way on purpose to avoid socialization. Maybe the only people he’ll talk to is his family or friends (especially if those friends are the turtles or April).:twink:
