any word on cartoon dvd

is there any word of a dvd of the original cartoon?

Karpo_007 05-06-2003 10:49 AM

I don't think so. Months a go some website reported that artisan would release a DVD this year, but no info has come after that.

The Defibrillator 05-06-2003 10:50 AM

there was an online petition somewhere..... I think it was on PWDESAI's website. link anyone?

Krangfan 05-06-2003 01:39 PM

Do those online petitions really work?

Peanut 05-06-2003 02:15 PM

No.

Petitions work if the companies take time to look at them and think there's enough people who want the product that they'll make it. One of our petitions that failed miserably was to get TMNT on Cartoon Network. Why? Some load of crap about how they "couldn't get the rights" to the show.

GK Punk 05-06-2003 02:18 PM

Yeah what Michaelangelo said... they are usually full of people's nick names, NOT real names (And you have to use Real names if it's going to do anything) PLUS most companies won't take anything from online seriously... you have to do a write in campaigne, but even that won't work everytime... so we are better off waiting for official word from Artisan

How is that a load of Crap? In order to air the show, they have to have the rights to it, which costs money. And certain Animations are really expensive.

Tokka-B 05-06-2003 02:44 PM

Online petitions whouldn't even be looked at...one person can make 200 signatures....

Karpo_007 05-06-2003 03:21 PM

Online petitions don't really do much good. We just have to wait and see what happens.

Splinter 05-06-2003 04:35 PM

According to the latest news that I heard on the DVD, expect it in the fall/winter time frame to coincide with the DVD of the new series. :)

I fear that I don't have a link, that's just the info that I've heard coming out of Artisan. If and when I do get concrete specs I'll be sure to alert everyone.

GK Punk 05-06-2003 04:51 PM

Oh Okay, that's cool... atleast it's better than nothing

Kid Icarus 05-06-2003 05:04 PM

I have way to many of them, and my collection is small compared to many people. I'm just hitting around 250 titles right now, and should have well over 300 by the end of the year.

GK Punk 05-06-2003 05:10 PM

This girl I know owns almost every US released anime On DVD.. it's really scary, I should post her collection sometime.

Kid Icarus 05-06-2003 05:14 PM

is it as scary as TMNTgal's MOC TMNT collection?

GK Punk 05-06-2003 05:18 PM

If you count all of Sarah's anime collection, counting DVDs, VHS, CDs, Manga, Magazines, Plush Dolls, clothes, and other micellaneos items... SCARIER!!!! In fact, I might see her later tonight, if so I'll be sure to take my camera with me..

I just don't believe them is what I'm saying, I think they just tried to use that as an excuse to not air the show. I'm suprised they still air G.I. Joe, too bad I don't get Cartoon Network or I would watch it.

GK Punk 05-06-2003 07:33 PM

You know.. They put GI Joe in a horrible time slot.. that upsets me worse than it should... I wish they'd do an 80s late night block on week days instead of Adult Swim.

Edge 05-06-2003 08:51 PM

a nightly 80's block would be kind of cool wonder if it would fly

GK Punk 05-06-2003 08:55 PM

it would be a cool experiment if nothing else... I mean they could play TMNT, Gi Joe, G1 Transformers, original MOTU etc stuff like that. I Mean, I watched GI Joe EVERYNIGHT when they had it on weeknights.

Edge 05-06-2003 09:01 PM

i watched gi joe too it be hard to get the rights to them though i can see motu seeing as how it's been reborn if you will same with transformers. out of all the 80's shows they could get those 2 for sure with gi joe

on a completly diffrent subject where is my new gi joe cartoon at damn it!

That is the reason. Cartoon Network went after the rights to show the old Masters of the Universe cartoon also, and because it was owned by Hallmark they wanted way more then what would be profitible to pay to acquire the show to show. Same goes for anything that Hallmark owns the rights to, including the original TMNT series. :(

Reznorite420 05-07-2003 09:00 AM

Hallmark owns the original TMNT series? I thought it was Wolf Studios (which I hear no longer exists)...

Ninja Tiptup 05-07-2003 09:50 AM

Yeah Wolf and Mirage on TMNT's TV rights and Artisan owns the video rights.

TMNT should be on Cartoon Network without a doubt, but getting rid of AS for it would be a terrible thing. It would cause horrible unrest. Instead they should have an 80's block before or after AS. I think TMNT should be on at 9:00 or 10:00 on the prime time schedule. I use to say it would be good for Toonami, but with the current Toonami I'd say no it wouldn't. The first five episodes could air as a special event to kill of G Gundam for a week, but other than that it would be better suited for outside of Toonami placement.

Splinter 05-07-2003 11:27 AM

Artisan only own the video rights, due to the fact the original TMNT cartoon series is currently owned by Hallmark. They gobbled it up when Wolf Studios went under. Artisan releases all of Hallmark's DVD properties. :)

Deathknight 05-07-2003 01:36 PM

The problem is would Cartoon Network edit TMNT if they aired it? Gi Joe they have no reason to edit because the episodes are very short but with TMNT that's not the case. Some of the episodes were over 22 minutes without the theme and credits, making the episode almost 24 minutes overall, I don't know if Cartoon Network would stand for that or not.

Splinter 05-07-2003 02:10 PM

Note also that Artisan owns the F.H.E. (Family Home Entertainment) label that released the TMNT episodes on VHS so many moons ago. :)

Tetsu Deinonychus 05-07-2003 08:40 PM

I was wondering if F.H.E fit into the situation.

Anyway I LOVE adult swim but an '80s block would ROCK on Boomerang!

Ninja Tiptup 05-08-2003 07:14 PM

On Boomerang? Awful idea man. Do you know how many people get that? Hardly any...

CN wouldn't cut TMNT. There is no reason to cut anything. Nothing too violent or controversial. They might cut the intro (which would be AWFUL since it's so wicked awsome), but other than that they would probably just air it with very few commercials. If they put it after Jackie Chan Adventures (very short episodes) it wouldn't be a problem at all. They might have to start the episode at a weird time like 8:56 or something, but it would work.
