The Cooking Thread

I f*cking love food, you guys. It's my favorite thing ever, besides obviously my cat. My cat also loves food.

Right now I'm baking some vegetarian "bacon" rubbed with spicy southwestern dijon mustard and brown sugar. Also I'm going to make some eggs. I've yet to decide what kind.

Then I'm probably going to eat some tortilla chips with some Taco Bell sauce. Which I just found out is awesome. On chips.

What kind of food do you guys like? What have you made recently? Where are your favorite restaurants? Let us KNOW!

There's a hot dog place here in Chicago called Hot Doug's and they serve crazy gourmet hot dogs. I got a veggie dog with pepper jack cheese and like... papaya mayonnaise or something. And it was so amazing. If I had the $$ I'd eat there every single day.

EDIT: This should be called the Food thread but my brain wasn't working right.

Jester 04-23-2012 08:19 PM

I'm not much of a cook, but lately I've been experimenting with eggs, trying all sorts of different ways to cook them or to doctor plain scrambled eggs, with mixed results.

zkarlette 04-23-2012 08:35 PM

Let's see..

I do cook,but I don't like it as much as baking. I can make a mean cheesecake:D
I like sushi, Thai food, dim sum, shrimp tacos ( which we cooked at home yesterday).. There is s LOT of restaurants in L.A.it's hard to decide when we go out.

Hannah 04-23-2012 08:48 PM

http://ahealthygirl.com/tag/kale-chips/ I want these in me right now!!

Samhain 04-23-2012 08:52 PM

Wait, you LOVE food but you don't eat bacon?!?! :o

Blasphemy.

zkarlette 04-23-2012 08:55 PM

I tried tempeh bacon and it was really good ,If you are into vegan stuff..

Peanut 04-23-2012 09:14 PM

What a surprise that the over-opinionated, man-hater also eats vegan food. F*cking shocked.

I do all the cooking in my house and my favourite place to do it is on the BBQ. I cook on the BBQ all year long, which is tough to do here sometimes. I make whatever, trying all different kinds of different seasonings and sauces and methods. Currently a favourite of my fiance is a chicken I make using a blend of peppers and various other spices that I use to make a pretty delicious and spicy marinade. I'm gonna try out some different stuff with some steaks I bought this weekend. Looking forward to that.

yeah, because eggs are totally vegan.

if you don't like me don't post in my thread, dummy.

Peanut 04-23-2012 09:31 PM

I didn't say you were a Vegan, I said you eat Vegan food. There's a difference.

Also, you're probably the last person who needs to try and act all "If you don't like it then leave!" cause that's all kinds of hypo-f*cking-critical.

Hannah 04-23-2012 09:49 PM

you made the comment about the vegan food just to antagonize me. there was nothing else to it. i don't post in the threads of people i don't like just to antagonize them. it's childish.

and if you wanna get technical, the veggie bacon is not vegan.

Anywaaaays, yesterday I had some shredded chicken BBQ sandwiches. I marinated the chicken in a Jack Daniels BBQ sauce for 6 hours. Shredded it, put it on the bun and then topped it with some coleslaw.

As a side, I made some baked beans and french fries. It was amazing.

I used to think putting slaw on a BBQ sandwich was nuts. Then I tried it and it's pretty good. Every so often, I'll add it if I get the notion.

I love to cook/bake, I do all the cooking in my house.

if any one want to know how to make the best chocolate cake ever let me know.

zkarlette 04-24-2012 12:02 AM

Alright it's on , how?:)

Stingray69 04-24-2012 12:28 AM

All right it sounds wierd but trust me ok.

One box chocolate cake mix
One box instant cheesecake filling
One box instant chocolate pudding

Get a big bowl pour all the mixes together. Now put all the other ingredients in that each calls for and mix.

It's going to make a lot of batter, so I hope you like cake. I promise it will be the moistest cake you've ever had.

Jester 04-24-2012 01:10 AM

Anyone ever have mayonnaise cake? For my groom's cake at my wedding I asked my grandma to make one, as it's my favorite. Chocolate mayonnaise cake with chocolate frosting...AWESOME! So moist and delicious.

Stingray69 04-24-2012 01:16 AM

Mayonnaise cake? Shure haven't what do you do just add some to a cake mix?

Nope. But it does replace the eggs and oil, because that's basically all mayonnaise is.

I don't cook, but my mom makes a really good breakfast casserole using Bisquick mix, sausage, hash browns, and cheese. Yum.

funny you should say that, cause some of the most boss chefs in the world are men.

My ex and I used to have cook offs to see who could make a dish better. We reluctantly came to the conclusion we're both amzing.

Has any one else made the tmnt pies or tmnt cereal?
I have there both pretty dang good and the homemade pudding I use for the pies. Is far better then store bought. I think I'll make some of the cereal this weekend.

zkarlette 04-24-2012 06:11 PM

I LOVED the original cereal.. How do you say you make it?

Take a box of Rice (or are they corn?) Chex and add marshmallows from your other cereal? :P I've seriously debated it.

zkarlette 04-24-2012 07:20 PM

Well.. I could try that ,but I would still need the box to stare at while I eat it , then I'll know it it has the full effect.:)

No it's a little more then that.

The original ninja turtles cereal used honey, brown sugar and malt syrup. Start with rice chex it’s pretty close to the ninja turtles stuff.Start with the 12.8 oz box of rice chex Add 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup honey and 2 tbsp malt syrup or molasses. heat on medium in a big pot stirring often and until every things well coated and all the sugar has dissolved. Let cool stir in your marshmallows and you got a dang good ninja turtles cereal.

If you find it a little sweet half the sugar and honey.

You could always find a full box on eBay or there's a seller that has a bunch of unused boxes. That where never folded or anything.

zkarlette 04-24-2012 08:05 PM

Woa! You do have it all figured it out..:o

I really need to try this out, I'm gonna miss the tiny weapons tho':D

It's honestly really good and I just got lucky charms and picked out all the marshmallows. To bad there wasn't a way you could make a mold so you could have the shapes down to.

Lethal Lullaby 04-24-2012 09:13 PM

I made brocolli and crab salad with my mom. It's quite simple. Fore I can't bake/cook. I kinda burned the cookies I made for my math teacher. He said he liked them though.

I wonder if Marshmallow Mateys by Malt-o-Meal would be a good choice too... i mean, they have pirate cutlasses as marshmallows... :P
