Avengers Assemble

Awhile back, rumors started to appear online that Marvel would cancel the popular superhero show, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. And now, it appears that these rumors have been proven true. Coming in 2013, a new cartoon based on the superhero team, the Avengers, is in development. Here is the source: http://www.forbes.com/sites/larissaf...ue-the-movies/

Here are the details for the show that have been revealed:

Spoiler:
-The show will start with the movie line-up. Which means Iron-man, Cap, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye and widow.

- The show will be sharing the same universe of the current Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and the upcoming Hulk Agents of SMASH.

- Ant-man will join the team later on the series.

- The animation will be a big selling point for the show. and will be made by MAS (the newly formed Marvel animation studio)

- The show will not be a continuation of the current Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

- One of the big villains of the show will be Thanos, in order to promote the character for kids since he is rumored to feature in the second avengers movie.

Thoughts?

**** this!

LeoNerdo 05-05-2012 02:22 AM

Uggghhhhhhhhhhh WHY??!!!

EHM is frickin great.

The jury is still out on Ultimate Spider-Man (but really it sucks).

This sounds bad to me.

ZariusTwo 05-05-2012 05:42 AM

Ooohhh dear.

The thing about this shared "Marvel Animated Universe" is Loeb insists there be no big story arcs and the episodes should all be "accessible" and not neccersarily watched in order to be "enjoyed"...so where's the dramatic hook going to be for any of these shows?

sdp 05-05-2012 07:24 AM

I thought Ultimate Spiderman was part of the A:EMH's universe? I remember reading about that but oh well, there goes that.

Haven't seen S2 but I'll miss Wasp, at least we're getting a 52 episode run in total, that's still not bad for a Marvel toon...

TurtleTitan97 05-05-2012 03:36 PM

Oh, I forgot to mention this bit about the released info for this new show. Appearently, word is that the show will be on Cartoon Network, although I find that unlikely to happen. Only time will tell, I guess.

oldmanwinters 05-05-2012 03:44 PM

There's a good reason why Marvel's TV shows lag far behind their DC counterparts.

Marvel is the king of the abrupt reboot.

NOOO! That's my favorite show on television!

Okay Marvel, you better put Coulson in this! And do NOT use the goofy ass USM humor.

Ultimate Spidey only has 2 things in common with A: EMH

1. Ultimate Nick Fury

2: Fred Tatsciore as Hulk

Otherwise Ultimate Spidey sucks. Sure there are moments in the eps
Spoiler:
Like Rob Paulsen as Batroc The Leaper or the cameo by the Super Hero Squad..
and Venom's new origin IS rather unique. Plus there's Agent Coulson as the high school principal... but other than that the show is just awful.

Fugitoid Jones 05-08-2012 05:44 AM

Just when I thought Marvel could do no wrong after watching the Avengers film and while enjoying S2 of EMH, they go and remind me of how stupid they can be sometimes.
This is about as dumb as "Let's reboot some of our titles like Hulk and Daredevil and Captain America, start them off as #1's, but still maintain the same continuity, basically rebooting for no real reason other than to spike sales with new #1's." At least DC gave a reason to reboot, and they did it with ALL their titles.

Roland 05-08-2012 11:40 AM

A:EMH is an awesome series. Im still trying to catch some of the episodes i misses with the reruns on DisneyXD. They should rather continue with A:EMH in my opinion.

The article doesn't say this, nor is it confirmed.

I wouldn't get too worried about it, I have a grain of salt ready though. :tsmile:

Finally something DC does better....

Sorry, but when it comes to movies: Make Mine Marvel.

I also say this, and it's totally unrelated, because 70's Hulk > 70's Wonder Woman.

I don't think I've ever liked anything that Loeb has created EVER. My friend said, and I must agree, that Loeb has the the subtlety of an atomic bomb in his writing.

I stay away from his work as a rule. Dammit.

You and IGN readers (and probably just about everybody else) must be on the same page:
http://comics.ign.com/articles/118/1187272p1.html

Television was the only category were DC pulled out a victory over Marvel's offerings. I give Marvel some credit for making strides in their TV lineup of late, but it still falls eons behind the DC stable. I'm a little biased in favor of DC, but I'd argue that Marvel's popularity has a lot do with their film success, which turned almost obscure characters like Iron Man and Blade into widely recognizable franchises. DC, however, has dropped the ball when it has come to featuring their heroes in films (with one obvious exception). Either their heroes have been subject to lackluster (or just plain awful) movies that have weakened their brand and postponed sequels (Batman & Robin, Superman Returns, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Jonah Hex). Or else "Development Hell" has kept their less developed heroes from getting live-action films (Wonder Woman, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, etc.) And there's also a few films that actually focus on the "imprint" sub-branding of characters, which means most don't even realize they are connected to DC (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta, Watchman, Constantine, etc.).

There was a time where I tolerated Loeb. I liked his work on Batman/Superman because it was very "Saturday Morning" than the sort of grimdark that Marvel and DC were (and remain) obsessed with back in the 2000s. I also loved Spider-Man: Blue, aka one of few Spidey stories that could make Gwen Stacy interesting and celebrate Peter's love life rather than destabalise it. His son dying was what crippled him as a writer, and I suspect it's what's motivating his current modus operandi as executive of Marvel's television output...he just wants the kind of Saturday Morning fare his son probably enjoyed in the 80s and 90s, where things were "simpler" and self-contained, and where the heroes werent so "conflicted" and soapy all the time.

I love the idea behind this I just hate how Leob is stunting the creative team. I even like the style of it. Yet again bad writing ruins something that could be awesome.

I prefer Dc in all honesty, but imo most super hero movies are sub-par..... I might have agreed with you a few years ago, but I am older and realizing how bad the spider-man movies were and the 1st hulk movie..... I haven't seen the new Marvel movie, but sounds like I need to.
My favorite super-hero movie, beside 1990 TMNT is The Dark Knight.
I think this summer might change my opinion though, I am really looking forward to the new spider-man flick and I am wondering if The new batman movie will be even better.

ZariusTwo 06-07-2012 05:43 AM

I kind of agree. Marvel's movies will (and do) age badly as the years go on, where as DC's movies like the original Superman and the Nolan Batverse are timeless works of cinema, their animated movies are also leauges better. I'd easily pick All-Star Superman and Under The Red Hood over The Avengers anyday.

oldmanwinters 06-07-2012 05:02 PM

Oh, well, at least Black Widow looks to be returning into a more active role in the team. However, I will miss this most recent version of Wasp & Ant Man; they have really been written well from the episodes I've seen thus far.

I don't know, most of the Superman sequels are f*cking awful, especially that Richard Pryor one, and are all horrendously dated. Most of the Batman movies haven't aged well either IMO, Jim Carrey's shtick as the Riddler has worn pretty thin. Other than that, what other movies has DC done? Green Lantern? Jonah Hex? Yeah, real timeless classics you got there.

I do agree with you about the first two Superman movies and the Nolan Batman movies however.

Spitfire 06-08-2012 06:04 PM

Ironman, Captain America, and Avengers have evened the movie playing field in my book. That's not counting the movies I like that some people may not agree with.

New Details

http://marvelousnews.com/index.php?itemid=15112

Quote:

TVGuide.com caught up with Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Joe Quesada and got the details.

Like with Ultimate Spider-Man which just recently got picked up for a second season on DisneyXD, both of these new series will be produced in-house by Marvel Entertainment. The lure of having total control of it's own property is probably a big reason why Marvel has opted to pull the plug on the existing Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series after the second season, which from all indications was a fairly popular show in it's own right.

Another reason for the new Avengers series is likely so they can tie it in more closely with the recent Avengers movie and continue to build off the tremendous success that movie has experienced. According to Loeb this new series will take place in the same universe as the movie,

"Jeph Loeb: The Avengers movie has been the ambassador to the world for the Marvel Universe so we want a show that has the feel and the tone and the incredible adventures like that movie. So the next project that we're working on — and this is down in our lab, top secret, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents protecting us at all costs — is Marvel's Avengers Assemble, which will be a brand new and really extraordinary looking animated series dealing with the Avengers in that same world."

The team for this series will consist of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow and new to the team The Falcon. Falcon has been rumored to be making appearance in the next Captain America movie, so does this mean Falcon will also be in the next Avengers movie as well? I guess only time will tell on that one.

When asked if the series would be skewed towards an older audience, Loeb responded by saying no, but that it would be filled with gigantic action and interacting among the characters and their voices that the movie has.

Agent X, the Marvel Animation insider who gave us the dirt on "Agents of S.M.A.S.H" and the notion the USM production team and writers are "dissatisfied" with working on the show, has claimed Avengers Assemble will no longer be set in the same universe as USM or S.M.A.S.H due to the negative feedback of USM.

Also, despite USM receiving a second season (which was always the plan), Marvel perceive the show as a flop and will be trying to correct the problems from the first season. This has already been teased by the promise of more ellaborate backstories for Spidey's teammates next season.

It also appears we're getting a new X-Men series somewhere down the line

http://www.marveltvnews.com/2012/06/...men-tv-series/

Spitfire 06-15-2012 04:58 AM

If they're fixing USM why not just keep it in the same continuity. Actually better question if they're not gonna sync up this new series with USM and Hulk, the entire purpose of the series as I recall, then why cancel EMH in the first place? A series that's already established, liked, and has people raging it's being canceled.

This reminds me of a similar "insider" who popped up in 2008 proclaiming Joe Quesada's job was on the line. Marvel inevitably caught him out by leaking false information and he quietly dissapeared.

SDCC '12: Disney's AVENGERS ASSEMBLE A Sequel To AVENGERS: EMH?

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit.../news/?a=63737

Spoiler:
During the Cup O' Joe panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Jeph Loeb was asked about the upcoming Marvel animated TV show Avengers Assemble, which has already received a massive amount of hatred from fans for replacing the much loved Earth's Mightiest Heroes series which had adapted many great storylines, but sadly left a few unfinished due to its rushed ending.

When asked about the upcoming show by a fan, Loeb said “We love the [Avengers: EMH] show so much that one of the first things we did was...take a look what the plans were and expanded from 24 episodes to 52 episodes.”

However, despite 52 episodes being described as an "enormous commitment" for animation, Marvel took into account of the hugely positive response to last Spring's Marvel's The Avengers movie. And that response may have influenced them to focus more on the superhero cast of the movie; hence bringing life to Avengers Assemble. What does this mean for the former, much loved series?

Jeph Loeb spoke more about the new series adding that “it better reflects the cast that’s in the movie...but we’re not saying ‘Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ never happened.” Continuing on that comment, he adds his thoughts about the ending to Earth's Mightiest Heroes. “We took this giant epic story, it has a conclusion we always meant to get to...and when we get out of that you’ll see what ‘Avengers Assemble’ will take it to" Loeb added.

Just because the voice cast switches doesnt mean it's going to be a new continuity, I shouldnt have to remind you the old-school TMNT cartoon had a few VA departures, does that make any of those seasons non-canon?

I would wait until the show airs before anyone say it's crap. I remember one guy who saw only clips of MLP: FiM and bashed it, leading everyone to strike back at the guy for not seeing enough of it.

What makes this show so different? "Because it's by the same people who made Ultimate Spider-Man"? That's a very stupid excuse, even considering that people here consider the show legitimately bad despite any opinion on it. That makes them a dogmatic, self-centered moron.

AEMH and Spectacular are gone. Get the **** over it. It's time to accept change, whether you like it or not.

While it's true certain superhero cartoons can get away with a degree of flippancy because they kept it relegated to brief moments. MLP has the flippnacy front and center because of it's light and fluffy nature. Shows like Ultimate Spider-Man do not lend themselves well to routine flippancy given the character's rich and complex comics history specialising in the dramatic and relatable "Parker Luck" issues, which have rarely if ever been on display in that cartoon...the same applies greatly to Avengers. People are tired of things being ironic and half-hearted in the delivery of the tone, we've seen better shows with better grasps on the characters, and they can make them function without the need to be culturally "on the pulse"

Don't tell us to "adapt to change", especially when the "change" is arguably for the worse and shows like the crap you blindly worship like a corporate sycophant have not instilled any great leaps of faith in us that other shows from the current creative direction of Marvel TV will be any different. I fully expect you'll slither back here and tell us all to enjoy Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H too, because how DARE anyone with a mind of their own and a frustration with the creative choices of this company dare speak out about it, we must all bend to your whims all to keep you from feeling silly and quite thick for liking this drivel.

Keep your yes-man blinders on and continue to be fed whatever mediocre s*it Disneyland supplies you with sheep. The rest of us will fight for quality.
