Hero Turtles Books
I'm on a bit of a quest right now to trace my collection of Turtles children's books released under the "Hero" Turtles label), so far I've found six, three of which adapt several television episodes, the remainder are all orginal works.
-Super Bebop and Mighty Rocksteady (adaptation) -Splinter No More (adaptation) -Return of the Technodrome (adaptation) -Krang's Space Raid (original story) -Shredder's Invisible Maze (original story) -Attack of the Time Spiders (original story) Out of the six, I got two with an audio cassete which read the whole tihng to me. I can't remember where I put the tapes unfortunatly These ring any bells? |

Are these illustrated books? The original stories sound rad, and potentially worth picking up if found.
|
Do they look like this:
http://cb.pbsstatic.com/l/43/4643/9780590764643.jpg I had a friend who had them over a decade ago. Not sure if he even still has them. |
I own most of those books; they're pretty cool on account of the illustrations.
The good fans over at the Russian forum have made most of the "Carnival" published book available for download: http://turtles-ninja.narod.ru/books-uk/carnival.html "Hippo" (which I think is the UK equivalent of "Scholastic" here in the US) also published two different series of storybooks. The first set consisted of 4 screencap books adapting Turtle Tracks, Enter the Shredder, Return of the Shredder, and The Evil Eye; the last two issues were original stories with actual illustrations which I recommend tracking down: "The Great Anchovy Mystery" and "Double Trouble." Hippo's second series were smaller cartoon storybooks that retold familiar stories with new illustrations. It included "The Magic Sword of Nowhere," "Super Rocksteady and Mighty Bebop," the Wingnut and Screwloose story from Archie comics, and probably another book I can't remember. I own most of those books if anybody would like to see some scans. |

Thanks for the history lesson Winters, and for the links.
I'm scunnered I only ever rented "Anchovie Mystery" out of the library and didnt buy it during the withdrawn sales (always bought Doctor Who books when that occured) |

No the book calls it "Magic Sword of Nowhere".

Here's some older scans I made from "The Great Anchovy Mystery." Now that was a strange story...

Very weird and morbid ending there...

In the "Double Trouble" book, the turtles actually make reference to the anchovy incident. Mikey: "There's been no sign of that tin-faced geek for weeks. I think we really must have done for Shredder this time. If he was still alive, he'd have come out to fight by now." Don: "Yeah, maybe those anchovies were too much even for Shredder." Raph: "Sure would have done for me. . . . Just thinking about it still turns my stomach." Leo: "Shredder has survived worse things than a vat of anchovies. . . . Until we know for certain, we must stay alert at all times." |

Fun fact: These books were sold at US dollar stores in the early-mid 90s.

And yes,"Hero" was in place of "Ninja" which is how I first learned of the U.K. subtitle change. |

April: "Guys, he just fell in no more than 5 seconds ago! We could still save him!" Raph: "Nope, he's dead." April: "Are you sure you don't even want to check?" Mikey: "No, no, he's definitely dead." April: "Wait! I see his hand reaching out for help! There's his mouth!" Shredder: "Help..... me....." Donny: "I don't hear anything. Must be the sound of the machinery." *Don starts poking Shredder's face back under the anchovies with his bo staff.* Leo: "Shredder has survived worse things than a vat of anchovies... Until we know for certain, we must stay alert at all times." *Leo then pushes the "Purée" button on the side of the vat. Muffled screams can be heard from under the surface of the anchovies.* April: "Leo, what have you done?!" Leo's face becomes stern, his voice serious: "I didn't do anything. And you didn't see anything, either... Is this going to be a problem?" April, holding back the terror in her voice: "......... No?" Leo's face immediately turns cheerful: "Alright then! Who's up for some pizza?!" All four Turtles: "COWABUNGA!!!" |

It's funny because I sorta imagined the same type of conversation in my head when I read the storybook. |

I forgot to thank you for the scans, Mr. Winters. I really like the illustrations, and it's cool to be able to read a Turtles Story I've never read before. Thanks! :tgrin:

Thanks a bunch!! :D

while the stories sound interesting, I never bought any TMNT stuff that comes from other countries. I know it's a big seller amongst other fans but I don't see the draw. To me, it just all seems like cheap knockoffs or bootlegs.

Shredder's Invisible Maze
Shredder's Invisible Maze rocked! :)

That's a very moronic view of things. |
In addition to Splinter No More, I also have Follow My Leader, which is basically an adaption of the episode "Take Me to Your Leader". One thing that the book goofs about is it states that Shredder is from Dimension X and not Japan. The thing about some of these original stories is that they easily could have made an additional 10 or so episodes off of these along with Random House's and Dave Morris' stories for the OT, and somebody can wonder if these stories were part of rejected scripts (I would have loved to have seen a Fred Wolf take of "A Fishy Adventure" and "The Magic Crystal" for instance). And with regards to censorship, I wonder if Michelangelo knows how to use a Bo!

some of these look like they may have made great episode if they had been animated. Also fron just these little peeks at the content, I think I like the way my fav turtle Michaelangelo was potrayed.

Maybe the Turtles were challenging their inner Mirage? Heh. What sounds less lame -- getting killed by your own hand grenade or dying in a vat in a boiling anchovies?
Loved your bit, oldmanwinters. Reminds me of a similar scene with MST3K and the movie characters were busy burying their Load character. "I'm not dead..." "Wait..." Anyone else curious or amused in seeing Rocksteady's helmet? Weird how the 87 series did away with that almost immediately, yet it keeps popping up in other media (the Konami games, Archie, these books). I don't mind, as the helmet fit his design well, so any appearance with it is fine with me. As for the virus issue, yeah, I got a Trojan, which my McAfee virus software took care of it. And, to be safe, I scanned the downloaded file, and it's fine or secure or a non-virus. I don't blame the file, but Mediafire is kinda funky like that. (Although, it is the first time I got a virus attack/threat, or the first in recent memory.) Try Rapidshare, Oron or Deposit Files as you rarely get any of that with them. Just saying. |

Try the original sources and see if you have better luck: http://turtles-ninja.narod.ru/books-uk/carnival.html EDIT: Quote:
I have since removed the file from my MF account. |

Anyway, I've become obsessed about anti-virus software and being up-to-date as possible. (I suffered a major virus attack, recently, and lost all my files, last month. Stupid anti-virus virus programs.) And regardless, I don't blame you, as A) you're trustworthy and B) stuff or, specifically, virus hijacking happens. It is yet another reason to hate pop-ups, or even more so. In which case, I should note that Oron and Rapidshare doesn't do pop-ups when they are ready to be DL-ed, while Deposit Files does. However, I never had a problem with DF, but this teaches me that no one may be safe. Rather sad, as I like Mediafire, as well. Darn you, hackers. Oh, just to be completely sure, I also unzipped and scanned the files within (I scanned the ZIP file in my previous post), and they're just fine. Can't wait to read them. Despite all this, I'm glad you uploaded and shared it with the rest of us. Edit: I just uploaded them onto Oron, as a temporary placeholder. Whenever you opt for your own DL site, feel free to discard my link (or have it as a back-up, whichever). Apologies if I'm overstepping any bounds. http://oron.com/wp77u1bpygrd |
