Wreck It Ralph

A disney movie about a game character who want to be a good guy

CyberCubed 06-06-2012 02:15 PM

Bowser, Eggman, and other videogame bad guys make cameos.

Slap-Happy 06-06-2012 08:40 PM

Looks pretty good. Cool seeing all of those game villains in there.

zkarlette 06-07-2012 12:11 AM

I really like the idea, I hope the movie is good!

Cure 06-12-2012 10:54 AM

You can check out the game here.

Freeman 06-12-2012 07:59 PM

We just saw the trailer here in Spain, and the guy who puts his voice to he hero of Ralph's game is the same playing Ash from Pokemon XD

Oh, and the films looks AMAZING, I'm already trying to attract friends to go to the premiere

Jester 06-12-2012 08:02 PM

I love John C. Riley's "I'M GONNA WRECK IT!" voice clip.

Hmm... how exactly did this game take the world by storm back in 1982? It's too easy to earn extra lives, and there doesn't seem to be a way to rack up oodles of points like any self-respecting arcade game would!

:P

Dadgum Tobikomi Co... they've produced yet another game that eats my quarters but doesn't leave me feeling satisfied!

MikeandRaph87 06-12-2012 08:42 PM

So Ralph is Donkey Kong who started as Mario's anatagonist and became a hero not long after, huh? Interesting! I wonder how Dsiney got the copyright to all these game boss characters. So who wants to give a list of who's who? I only know the obivous Boswer and Dr. Robotnik and Pac-Man ghost.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible, and I imagine it's a mutual perk for all parties involved.

Oddly, early footage of the movie had Dr. Wily in the room with the other villains. However, he has now been replaced by Mortal Kombat's Human Smoke (or at least a reasonable facsimile). Seems like if they were gonna use a MK "villain", they could have gone with the more recognizable Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Goro, or Shao Kahn.

Hopefully this isn't yet another twist in Capcom's ongoing love-hate relationship with the Mega Man franchise.

Indeed, especially since Zangief and M.Bison are there.

Yeah, and Zangief isn't even a "bad guy" either!

Ninja Turtles in Wreck-It Ralph

So... apparently the original TMNT Arcade gets a shout-out (of sorts) in the movie.

Looks like they went to the trouble to create all-new side art but they blurred out the name (perhaps out of legal concerns). Weird.

Heckster 10-18-2012 11:26 AM

I can't wait for this movie!

zkarlette 10-27-2012 11:35 PM

Saw a screening of this movie today, it was really fun and I loved seeing all the cameos.

BubblyShell22 10-28-2012 08:47 AM

This movie looks really good. Can't wait to see it.

Zany Orange Dude 10-28-2012 10:42 AM

I'm really looking forward to this movie, mainly for the references.:twink:

The Stryker 10-28-2012 11:38 AM

So you're going to complain when those other characters are only in the movie for a minute ot two? Great!

Hmmm nope, don't plan to do that. I pretty much knew that they are only going to appear for like 5 seconds a piece. It's just fun to spot them out. :twink: Nice assumption though.

I think the concept of the movie is pretty interesting. I just hope its executed well.:tgrin:

-->> The brief moment ( more like second ) the cabinet is onscreen is an instant nerdgasm. I went to see it without knowledge of this thread or a real good look at the trailer beforehand so-. I saw this with my sis n' 16 y.o. niece. As soon as it was on screen, me n' her looked at each other a second n' laughed so hard.
so good to see that kid smile, i rarely get to spend time with her so was a real fond memory. Cameo aside, i recommend you guys see the show. A really D@MN good movie !! !! !! You'll love it !! Especially if your a gamer nerd.

BubblyShell22 11-06-2012 08:03 AM

Well, I hope I'll see it eventually. Is it a quick cameo, or is it the type where you can see it clearly?

The Stryker 11-06-2012 08:42 AM

It's like half a second in a montage. Even then how is a similar looking cabinet a cameo? I really hope nobody actually goes to see the movie for any of the actual cameos or references.

I'll just repost what I said in the other movie thread.

Wreck it Ralph was really good. I really can't bring myself to call it great though. Especially when the movie kinda abandoned the video game gimmick in the last act in favor of candy and food puns. Seemed like they ran out of ideas and the movie itself was running on fumes by the time the final race started.

So yeah. Good not Great.

BubblyShell22 11-06-2012 11:48 AM

Oh, I wouldn't see it just for the montages and cameos. I want to see it because it looks pretty good.

psych23232323 11-06-2012 12:55 PM

The movie was an average kids movie.

It's good and pretty funny, but follows a standard kids movie theme.

Sonic's cameo may have been short but I just love the reference :)

Jester 11-12-2012 05:22 PM

I'll admit the "twist" in the ending totally caught me off guard.

oldmanwinters 11-12-2012 05:24 PM

When M.Bison first questioned Ralph about "going Turbo," I totally thought it was an in-joke related to the Street Fighter franchise instead of a critical plot point.

Jester 11-12-2012 05:27 PM

Yeah, I had to get that explained to me by the movie, too. Bison being the first to use the term didn't help, though.

BlueLightning 11-13-2012 12:07 PM

I saw it last weekend. I absolutely loved it!

Spoiler:

It was one awesome moment to another, from seeing the old arcades going through the first sequence (They had the Turtles in Time cabinet!), seeing the homage to the original Donkey Kong arcade. It was a thrilling visual experience, so different from what CGI films look like, combining elements 2D to 3D, learning about the "rules" of this videogame world, and the so many cameos here and everywhere.

I must admit I was very impressed with the story, it had some red herrings that were nicely used. I specially liked the scene where King Candy comes to Ralph to tell him about the "truth" of Vanellope, it fooled me and made real painful what Ralph did to protect her. The scene was just intense, and through the film, the interactions between Ralph and Vanellope were nice and poignant too.

And talking about King Candy/Turbo, he earned a spot in my pantheon of supervillans. He was just so mean and evil, and very creepy and threatening too. His demise was fitting, but a little unsettling, which was great too.

All in all, this film had fun, heart and emotion. Very, very recommended!

PD: Also, the short film about paper planes... it was just high art!

FlawedCoil82 11-16-2012 01:51 AM

I really was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. I've seen it twice already. I found it to be better than a lot of recent Pixar films which is a shame since it doesn't seem to be performing near as well as it should, just because the "holier than thou" name of "Pixar" wasn't attached to it (both nights I went, the theater was otherwise empty). I still regard "How To Train Your Dragon" as my all time favorite CGI toon movie, but "Wreck It Ralph" is closer towards the top of my list than most recent Pixar films.

Paper Man was awesome. I must be a wimp, because that short (and certain scenes in Ralph itself) actually chocked me up a little.

This was exactly how I felt about it. I had so many people telling me how great the movie was, but I just didn't see it as being great. It was a fun movie. It was enjoyable. But that's it. Any little story twist through out the film just made me go "Yeah, that seems about right."

Falconhood 11-16-2012 04:55 AM

I love this movie! The figures are very expensive imo, but if they made PVC minifigs, like the little Marvel and DC figures before Imaginext/Playskool took over...although, I'd love to see some Imaginext sets of figures and playsets, like the Toy Story line.

DonatelloNinja82 11-19-2012 07:23 PM

I just saw this movie last weekend and I really enjoyed it. The old video game references and cameos were great...and the twist at the end totally caught me off guard. I'm totally buying this when it comes out on DVD.

Yeah. I just found myself wanting to like it more than I ended up liking it.

I remember just sitting there trying to convince myself that some of the really flat jokes were funny.

Jephael 11-27-2012 09:01 AM

Well, I gotta say Wreck-It Ralph was awesome! I went to see it last night with my cousin and we loved every second of it! We especially laughed at the scene with the Oreos chanting. Also the part where Ralph was about to sacrifice himself got me pretty choked up.

Sadly I missed the part with the Ninja Turtle arcade cameo. Woulda liked to have seen that. I plan on buying the DVD release when it comes out, so maybe I'll freezeframe the montage in the beginning.

CyberCubed 04-01-2013 07:49 PM

Saw it for the first time today on blu-ray, yeah it was good.

I do agree that it stopped feeling like a videogame movie and more like a candy-themed movie during the second half. Most of the jokes were about the different candies rather than videogames.

Still it was good, and I loved the scenes of Ralph smashing the Kart, the girl being a glitch and possibly dying, and the king being the evil character from the other game. Also a bit disappointed Ralph didn't get a real medal for saving the game world and creating the light to kill all the bugs with.
