Which catch-phrase do you prefer, Cowabunga or Booyakasha

So in the new TMNT cartoon, Mikey now says "booyakasha" instead of "Cowabunga". Personally, i like cowabunga better, but what do you guys think? Do you like Cowabunga or Booyakasha better?

Slade 06-22-2012 08:37 PM

I said this on another thread, but I don't see a point in a catchphrase. Though if one has to be used I would so rather cowabunga them booyakasha!

KROW 06-22-2012 08:38 PM

Neither. My favorite is "Bossa Nova."

gobo 06-22-2012 08:42 PM

Anything but "booyakasha". It sounds awkward, but not the amusing kind.

Zany Orange Dude 06-22-2012 08:50 PM

You know, honestly, I love both of them. New catch phrase for new show, I get that. As long as Mike doesn't say it every other sentence, I'll be cool with it.:tgrin:

That is my thought. Cowagunga had entered lexicon before Michelangelo first uttered it but this "Booyasha" just sounds like random gibberish and awkward.

Also, to the OP,set up a poll!

DonatelloFan 06-22-2012 08:58 PM

We've heard him say it what, once? Before that, it was just 'Hey, I heard he's going to be saying this'. Sure, 'Cowabunga' was a hip term before the cartoon came out, but do you realize how many times the Turtles said it during the cartoon run? We loved it because we loved the Turtles.

I liked how they incorporated the phrase into the trailer (at the end when Don says it). I don't think they're going to say it every other sentence, but I'm sure it'll be in every episode, during a fight scene, or when Mikey shows his love for something. And if every now and then, the other Turtles call him out on it, or use it for comedic relief (as in the trailer), I'll embrace it.

Of course, as a TMNT fan, I prefer Cowabunga, and always will, no matter how many catchphrases there are. But I'm not going to hate on the new phrase because I'm an old-school fan.

Well said, DonatelloFan, well said.:twink:

psych23232323 06-22-2012 09:25 PM

I prefer Cowabunga. I'm old school as well. Heck even other characters used it in their shows like Bart Simpson.

Booyakasha...that sounds weird to me. It sounds more like a battle cry to me really.

But...hey could be worse. It's definitely a lot better than Naruto's "Believe It." Now THAT was annoying to hear a lot.

CyberCubed 06-22-2012 09:25 PM

I hope for the return of, "Mondo tubuloso!"

Coola Yagami 06-22-2012 10:11 PM

Cowabunga. It's old fashioned, but it's an actual catch phrase, and surfers can actually use it in real life. Booyakasha sounds stupid and 'cartoony' and can only be used if you're referencing... a Nickelodeon kiddy show...

Machias Banshee 06-22-2012 10:20 PM

All I'll say is this... 'Awesome' is Timeless. :)

SS_Turtle 06-22-2012 10:22 PM

Cowabunga if I had to pick between the 2. ALI G's catchphrase was booyakasha so to me it doesn't fit the turtles.

Mr.Turtle 06-22-2012 10:33 PM

i think most of us here r used to cowabunga thats why.

I stand corrected. I thought it was a made-up word.

Powder 06-22-2012 11:36 PM

I think "Booyakasha" sucks ass. If he used it once or twice, fine, but if that's gonna be a regular thing, expect me to vomit.

Ravenxl7 06-23-2012 12:26 AM

I love both....well...maybe not love booyakasha, but I definitely feel it's appropriate. It, imho, has a very similar vibe to cowabunga. As much as I love the '87 toon, and while cowabunga will always have a special place in my heart, I see no reason to be upset that they aren't using it as the Mikey's catch phrase in this new show.

I'll be proud if booyakasha becomes this new generation of turtle's fans cowabunga. I'll be sharing cowabunga with my nephew, but it's nice to see that this new generation will have something completely their own.

Venom 06-23-2012 12:31 AM

I have always liked "Cowabunga"! :tgrin:

^ Agreed :tgrin:

Honestly, I'm sure alot of the original, Mirage fans were like "WTF is this 'cowabunga' crap?" when the OT came out. This series is trying to be different, rather than giving us the same stuff over again, so I understand trying to add new elements, like a new catchphrase.

Who the hell knows, maybe it'll grow on everybody.

TurtleTitan97 06-23-2012 07:53 PM

I like both catchphrases.

Kendamu 06-23-2012 08:09 PM

I like both, too.

Mr.Turtle 06-23-2012 09:27 PM

i knew u like both...

Chevy Nova?

hudemx 06-24-2012 04:42 AM

All I want is Turtle Power ;)

But if I have to choose I would go with Cowabunga, it sounds better than Booyakasha and is a "established" Catchphrase the Turtles used for over 20 Years now.

ZariusTwo 06-24-2012 04:46 AM

Candy Kappa 06-24-2012 05:49 AM

I manage just fine without any catchphrase.

Its there, it exist. Cowabunga, Booyakasha. Whatever, as long as the character using the catchphrase sounds natural using it. And Mikey sounded okay saying Booyakasha.

I have good news for you, turtle power is in the new series!

Lethal Lullaby 06-24-2012 09:15 AM

I'm cool with both of them.

DarkLightDragon 06-24-2012 10:10 AM

I think both are fine as well.

One just has more nostalgia to it than the other is all.

Pretty much this.

Honestly, who gives a shit? It's a kids' series and if the powers that be decide the Turtles should have a funny word to throw around that kids can connect to the series, then whatever. One is just as good as the other, and change is generally refreshing.

Obviously "Cowabunga" is ingrained in the minds of anyone over 15 or so, but it doesn't really matter.

Roland 06-24-2012 03:49 PM

I like "Cowabunga" the best. "Booyakasha" i think can be cool but it doesn't sound as great as "Cowabunga". "Bunzai" in 2k3 toon just didn't work for me.

If it was used in the 4kids show, it wasn't as often as Raph Paulsen said it in the OT.

Jester 06-24-2012 06:14 PM

Where's the "I don't give a Master Splinter's kiester!" option? :P

By the way, it's good to be back after a weekend at my grandparents. Love them, but some of my lil' second (or is it first once removed?) cousins are a bit of a handful.

Jephael 06-25-2012 09:16 PM

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer "Cowabunga"

Bauer536 06-25-2012 09:29 PM

Both rule. I like the two. Booyakasha is kind of cool when you say it like three times. Still, I'm hoping to unexpectedly hear cowabunga again.:tsmile:

Mr.Turtle 06-25-2012 09:34 PM

as long as its not "its ninja time!"...

eddski 06-25-2012 10:54 PM

please bring back cowabunga :tsad:
