new Nickelodeon TMNT too "cute"

Is it just me or anybody else think the new Nickelodeon TMNT are too "cute" looking? They just dont look very menacing like the TMNT should be, I mean they are often smiling and making silly faces, plus they seem a lot shorter than the turtles are usually depicted. Even the 2007 cgi movie turtles looked way cooler than these new ones, in my opinion. After watching the trailer for the new Nickelodeon show, "Mikey" says something at the end and his voice sounds like that of an 8 year old. Also their faces look too flat and the overall body design looks kinda weird, too polygon-like, and the newly added third toe looks kinda weird. Just my 2 cents.

CyberCubed 07-14-2012 12:12 AM

They're supposed to be a bit younger than other incarnations, hence why April is also 16.

The Turtles look like they might only be around 13-15 year olds in this one, and act like real teenagers. I think they look fine. As long as the action sequences are good and there is real danger in the episodes it should be fine.

Mr.Turtle 07-14-2012 12:18 AM

of course cgi turtles r way cooler. they dont come cheap.

DonatelloFan 07-14-2012 12:20 AM

And the '87 cartoon was corny. We just didn't see it as young kids. It's for kids, it's supposed to be 'cute'. It's also been said that the show was going to be geared to the kids, not us adult cynics. They're supposed to sound young.

I understand it's your personal preference, but it's supposed to be that way. I don't like all the anime references, but I knew it was there. I'll just get used to it.

dont compare movies with tv series... u dont wanna compare movies with tv series...

Lucs 07-14-2012 12:43 AM

Something about Mikey's voice really urks me and the gap in Donny's teeth are odd. Carrtoons are for kids, what are you gonna do?

The Stryker 07-14-2012 12:55 AM

In what crazy backwards universe were the TMNT ever 'menacing'?

Xav 07-14-2012 12:57 AM

The Mirage comics universe.

The Stryker 07-14-2012 01:01 AM

Right right. The universe where they were created as a parody.

Also. Giant cartoony turtles.

Mike's voice is perfect. What's the problem?

Powder 07-14-2012 06:43 AM

"Wahhh! This isn't exactly like everything that's come before it. That makes it bad!"

You of all people should know people like to complain just for the sake of complaining.

At least the 1987 cartoon also started out fairly serious in its early episodes. It seems like the first episode is almost as good as the first episode of Season 3 in the OT, pretty much abandoning its early roots. It sort of mirrors those "junior cartoons" of the '80s: Muppet Babies (at least it worked with the pop culture references/jokes), Baby Looney Tunes, Flinstones Kids, and a Pup named Scooby-Doo. Sure, technology has changed, but if Muppet Babies came out today, it would be a similar 3D style with probably the Matrix instead of Star Wars in certain clips.

HerpDerp 07-14-2012 11:14 AM

I love the way you can tell which turtle is which in that picture, just from their facial expressions.

I think it pretty much confirms that it is a gap, not a missing tooth.

Allio 07-14-2012 11:20 AM

Expressions tell me this

Raphael: The heck are you
Mike OMG! A TALKING RAT! YAY
Don: OOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo (or reference to professor baxtor: HEY YOU GUYS, It's so good to be completely Asian!!"
Leonardo: DEAR GOD! IT'S A GIANT TALKING RAT!!

Zany Orange Dude 07-14-2012 11:28 AM

Man, I thought the trailer would have been up by now.:tconfuse: I am so impatient.:trazz:

I love how you can still tell which Turtles are which from the expressions on their faces. Don is the most obvious one, though, lol. :tlol:

Yeah, I've never understood why some people are seriously against making kids look like kids. It's in the first word of their team name.

Mr.Turtle 07-14-2012 12:37 PM

its a show abt the young turtles in the modern age!

I guess people don't really think too much about it since the turtles have rarely been portrayed as teenagers

You know, you are probably right about that.

Mr.Turtle 07-14-2012 12:49 PM

ppl r thinking of normal human teens when they r talking abt the teen turtles. but the turtles r not normal n they r not human at all.

Who said the TMNT should be menacing? The rat-arsed comics only niche geeks care about? The Turtles in the Nick show look about as settled as the later looks of the 4Kids Turtles and the original cartoon.

Mr.Turtle 07-14-2012 01:07 PM

maybe they can make a OVA and make it menacing.
