Micro-Series #8: Fugitoid. Preview/Discussion

Out Wednesday.

Preview here.

Spoiler:
Technodrome! Neutrino! YESSS!!!

Powder 09-04-2012 04:55 AM

Aw shoot, I clicked the spoiler tag on accident. ;~;

Quite a spoiler though (considering I've not checked out the preview, anyway). Maybe I should wait for #14 to check this out...

Lampy 09-04-2012 05:31 AM

yea i clicked the spoiler too. but it doesn't totally spoil much. can't wait for this issue. the shirts remind me of star trek though...

frank_one 09-04-2012 08:23 AM

Interesting..

Cowabunga Carl 09-04-2012 08:34 AM

So I just read the preview. It was good. I like where they seem to be taking this. Though these Micros coming out before where they go is a little strange. I understand that they want to get them out but a little closer to where it goes story wise would be nice.

CyberCubed 09-04-2012 08:38 AM

Did the Neutrinos always have pointy elf ears like Zelda characters?

Toby Barrett 09-04-2012 08:42 AM

Yes. You should know that.

I must have never noticed it.

So in Mirage Prof. Honeycutt was an alien but he looked human, because the entire Federation looked human. But in this series he appears to be of Neutrino origin with pointy elf ears.

Hm, so far no mention of the Federation at all, I wouldn't be surprised if IDW ignores them and instead has Krang wage war against the Triceratons instead.

Cowabunga Carl 09-04-2012 09:11 AM

Who even says that there will be Triceratons? I mean as far as we know right now he is just fighting against Neutrinos. There have been no indecation that the Triceratons exist in the IDWverse. Oddly enough though I'm okay with them not showing up at the moment. Though I would love to see Zog again in some fashion.

CyberCubed 09-04-2012 09:45 AM

They'll likely show up eventually, I expect every major Mirage-centric characters to appear.

ToTheNines 09-04-2012 09:56 AM

I hope they don't.

Cowabunga Carl 09-04-2012 10:00 AM

Not everything from ever version needs to show up. Right now it still feels like Fred Wolf is the primary influence with a tad bit of the others thrown in. The IDW crew is starting to make it feel like its own too though in some aspects. I'd really like to see that grow. I guess that is why I don't want the Triceratons in this issue. If they are going to include them do it some other way, not just there because that's how it was done before.

Matches Malone 09-04-2012 10:02 AM

Spoiler:
I'm not too stoked that Honeycutt is now a neutrino... But I can see how it makes sense since he was never explicitly a particular race other than "human-looking." I kind of figured he would just be human, but I guess that's the way it goes.

oldmanwinters 09-04-2012 10:05 AM

Bring ON the Fugitoid!

But I'll just tell ya'll right now that I'm gonna wait for TMNT #14 before I read it. I just hope I don't ruin the surprise for myself by seeing it on DrSpengler's TMNT Entity site.

The Triceratons have been enjoyable in every appearance and I want to see them fight the Rock Soldiers.

Toby Barrett 09-04-2012 10:21 AM

That's debatable. I find every story the Triceratons have been in to be boring stories that drag on far too long.

***First of Two Latin Kings*** 09-04-2012 10:55 AM

I so can't wait for this issue.

The gladiator business in Vol. 1 was drawn out and boring? It was 1 issue, and the pacing was breakneck. And wow, "Return to New York" was boring?

The Vol. 2 stuff with them I'll grant you.

Vol. 2 along with the boatloads of attention they got in the 4kids series.

They've done about all you can do with Triceratons, I feel like their inclusion in this book wouldn't be anything but tedious. I've been wrong before though.

CyberCubed 09-04-2012 11:38 AM

I actually felt the 4kids version improved upon the comic version of Turtles in space, and the Seadon 3 arc when they invade earth was one of my favorite arcs of the show.

Also they appeared in the Image series too and were handled well there.

frank_one 09-04-2012 12:54 PM

So they are bringing in even more pieces from the old toon. In the first issues the turtles wore red bandanas and now we are talking about Neutrinos and the technodrome (and we saw a glimpse of human Bebop and Rocksteady already) .. I'm not sure I still like the direction this comics has taken.

TurtleMaster4 09-04-2012 01:27 PM

Spoiler:
did i just see the technodrome!!!!!

BentonGrey 09-04-2012 01:51 PM

Alright! This looks great! I really like what they're doing with the character. That seems to have the makings of a great story!:tgrin:

Yes, yes, yes! Like I said in the other thread, that NEEDS to happen. It doesn't have to happen right away, but I hope we will eventually have the Turtles take a tour of their universe, and we'll get to see something like this go down.

Jester 09-04-2012 02:15 PM

I bet Peter is going to "love" this issue. Looks interesting, seems to continue the "darker shades of FW" angle, though.

Cowabunga Carl 09-04-2012 02:36 PM

Which isn't bad, just not what I was expecting when the title was announced. It would be interesting if Peter did read this issue and posted what he thought about it. If I remember correctly though he wasn't a big fan of Krang, or Fred Wolf in general.

Venom 09-04-2012 02:49 PM

Interesting to note the screen behind Honeycutt reading "Earth: 30 Days Post Terraform" along with the projected casualties being half the planet's population.

Tuxedo Moroboshi 09-04-2012 07:08 PM

Oh, wow, this is awesome. As I've referred to it before, the IDW series seems to be an Ultimate TMNT in a way, and I loooove how it's combining aspects and characters from the various different incarnations into one.

As for the Triceratons... I'll agree that they don't have to show up in this story, but I disagree with the people that say they shouldn't show up at all. I do still want them to eventually show up. They're friggen' awesome. And this is one of the things I love about the IDW series, is that it's combining so many things from TMNT that were never really together before. Though I do like the completely new stuff, too, don't get me wrong. But I do still want to see the Triceratons at some point down the road.

CyberCubed 09-04-2012 08:58 PM

For some reason the concept of Prof. Honeycutt actually being a Neutrino amuses me more than it should. Now he's not just a random human in space anymore from a distant world that isn't Earth.

I never understood why so many sci-fi shows has humanoid aliens that look just like us from entirely different planets. I realize its for budget reasons, but in comics there's no reason to make them look so human if they're actually aliens.

So giving them pointy elf ears like Vulcan's or Zelda characters works for me. I guess Honeycutt being a Neutrino works.

Andrew NDB 09-04-2012 09:03 PM

I agree it works. I also like how there's a character-driving reason for him becoming the Fugitoid, rather than just a freak accident.

Ditto, that was one of my first thoughts when reading the preview. Now there are some interesting elements to his origin that didn't really exist before.

Andrew NDB 09-04-2012 10:04 PM

It makes lemonade from what could have potentially been lemons. I think the Fugitoid special is probably easily -- to me -- the strongest IDW TMNT comic they've put out since #5.

Jester 09-04-2012 10:42 PM

Who are you and what did you do with Andrew Modeen!?

He kinda has to embrace all the cartoon stuff in the comics now, the IDW series is full of them. It's either accept them now or drop the series, and I don't think he's anywhere close to giving up on the series.

Tuxedo Moroboshi 09-05-2012 05:17 AM

Hey, so long as the Turtles don't start defeating their enemies by throwing pies at their faces, I think we'll be fine. :P

PaulAllor 09-05-2012 05:48 AM

Crap. I knew I shouldn't have ended this issue with a giant pie fight...

Tuxedo Moroboshi 09-05-2012 09:31 AM

Well, this can be an exception. I mean, how else are you supposed to end a story about a scientist getting his brain trapped in a robot body? There's no other way to do it but with a giant pie fight. It's just common sense!

I got the idea early on that Krang could be at war with General Blanque who is the dictator of the Nuetrinos.Seeing that Professor Honeycutt is a nuetrino it looks possible. As for the Triceratons they can appear as an enslaved race under Krang's thumb having their homeworld destroyed by Krang.Traximus as the rebel against Krang. And Zandramon the officer under Krang. Who knows how it will go,but it could go reminscient of my idea. I like how the Other Media elements are being woven together with the Mirage stuff. Its started off slow, but between this and Slash its as good a marriage as the first two movies were.

Toby Barrett 09-05-2012 01:55 PM

OH WOW!

Spoiler:
CHET is the Fugitoid!

Weren't you the one who came up with that idea? Great call dude! I wonder if my General Blanque as a neutrino will be next just as I got Slash predicted.

Since I am not going until Friday how about wrapping spoilers around a little more detail.

I also would like to know...
Spoiler:
Who was it that Chet was talking to on the phone? I don't remember if we saw who it was. Shredder or unknown?

Answer:

Spoiler:
Shredder. Or one of his people, anyway, depending on how much Shredder micro-manages such things. :)

Glad people seem to be digging the issue.
