Nick TMNT Toys on "Hot Toy" Holiday 2012 Lists
For what it's worth.. I'm starting to see the Nickelodeon TMNT toys crop up in news articles about predicting what the hot toys for this holiday shopping season will be.
- Fox News says "retro hits like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Furby" will be popular - CBS News lists the Nick Sewer Lair playset in the Top 15 Turtlemania! |
Threadworthy.
|
Nice to see TMNT among toy giants like "One Direction" and "Furby".
|
Furby... Crazy stuff. I remember when they first come out. And now they're re-releasing them, with smartphone/tablet functionality. I guess if a little kid doesn't remember the last time they came out, they're new to them. I just find it funny. Those little things were annoying.

That's really all I wanted to say. |

These are more technologically advanced then the old ones? |

This is a great sign for TMNT... i'm impressed that they are already so excited about the TMNT brand even though the show isn't even out yet. It's impossible to know how it will be received.

I'm procrastinating getting the Lair waiting for a TRU sale or for another retailer like Target to get it for their holiday toy inventory at a lower price. But I fear this tactic might bite me in the a$$! It's getting a lot of publicity lately and I've been watching as the shelves of my local TRU slowly depleting from 12 Lairs down to 2 without replenishment. :o
|
Having worked at ToysRus I can say that the replenishment at the stores is horrible. It drove me crazy. But it is awesome to know that the toys are doing well enough that people are predicting that they will be huge this christmas. I really want to see this become the second great age of TMNT.

:tparty:3 cheers for turtles!:tparty:

The new Furbys are twice the price of the originals. I know because I used to collect them. I also plan to collect the new ones.
More on topic, I'm happy to hear that TMNT toys are making the hot toy lists this year. Hopefully the line will be huge and last for many years. |
Furby is something that I'd always thought would be a relic of the '90s along with Tamagotchi and Pogs. However, we need good press from the Nick series to drive the sales for these toys in today's ultra-sensitive media. One bad article can cause a wave of bad press that can shut down the appeal quickly. My brother and sister had a Furby, but I was already a teen by the time they were released so they were just a little past my time, but I still appreciate the original Furbys since I played with them a little, though they did get annoying after awhile. The new box art of the Furby just looks too contemporary for my tastes and lacks the cuteness of the originals.
|
Tamagotchi has actually been around until very recently. They brought them back a few years ago and they sold pretty well up until the last model, which was overpriced, oversized and pretty much a line killer.
To me Tamagotchi and Furby are the kind of toys that have the most potential. Since they're technological toys they can improve as technology does. From what I hear the new Furbys are leaps and bounds over the original in what they can do. Electronic pets are pretty much my biggest area of expertise. I've been into them since 98 when I got my first Furby. I've had pretty much everything. I'm rooting for both Furby and TMNT to do great this year. Both are things near and dear to my heart. |
I think only toys r us is getting the lair playset. I got it online a few weeks ago 20% off. It was the 2nd time I saw that sale. The price also seems to be fluctuating from 119 to 129 recently. Watch out for that.
|
I am waiting until I can get it on sale... right now TRU has a buy 2 get 1 free on TMNT items, but since there are no other items priced remotely close to the Lair's $120 price tag... it's not the best way to get it.
If they do another 20% off I will grab it in a second. |
The buy 2 get one free is great but I'd rather pay an extra $8 so I can handpick the minty packages since I don't open them.
|
I figured TMNT would be a hot seller for the holidays.
As far as Furby, I never had one, but the wife bought the little one a new one. I hate the thing already. |
Furbys Creep Me Out.....lol :tlol:
|
Furbys creep a lot of people out. So does Teddy Ruxpin and pretty much any animatronic toy. It may be an Uncanny Valley kind of thing. I love things like that myself but I can see why they'd be creepy to some.
|
Once the new cartoon starts airing on Nick next weekend, I think we are really going to see the figures start flying off the shelves...
|
Yup. if you want any of the figures, buy them now because it's going to get harder soon. Stock should stay plentiful but it's hard to say! This is the biggest toy push I have seen in many years.
|
I thought furbys were a thing of the past, specially after seeing the "new" toy robot called "Figit" at Toys R us. It pretty much does the same annoying things, but I have to say, I did buy a Furby long ago when they first came out.:ohwell:
|
Fijits are similar to Furby in some ways, but programming wise they aren't nearly as complex. Furby is basically a pet simulation. You have to feed and care for them or they become ill. They also have their own language and they "learn" english over time. Fijits basically make noise, dance and respond to a few limited verbal commands. I kind of want one, but with the new Furby and turtles out now that's probably where I'll be spending my money for the forseeable future. By the time I'm done collecting those two Fijits will probably be a thing of the past.
I'm glad I got all the Nick Turtles before the new show starts. I have a feeling they'll be hard to find once the show starts up and kids start becoming familiar with the characters. |

It's going to get crazy once the Holiday shopping season hits. Like I said I'm glad I already got my Turtles.

All I really wanted was the Turtles. I'm still on the fence about Splinter but I may pick him up when I go to Toys R Us Friday.

Cool. I'll definately try to get him then.
|
TRU has 20% off $150 online, but the lair doesn't seem to be part of it. I guess they aren't discounting it at this time since it is a hot toy.
|
Its hard to find the new nick TMNT's that do not have damaged cards. Some are really beat up. Also a lot of the figures have red paint on the their arms where its green. So you kind of got to find an in between on them. Almost impossible to find them gem mint.
I have found 2 full sets of turtles that are in pretty top shape since I collect MOC. I am going to TRU tomorrow so I may buy some more. |

I'm thinking about buying some Hobbit movie figures using this promotion, though |
if we are referring to the new basic toys based on the new tv show, I have all four turtles and I love them. They do have paint on them and my Leo's bandana had paint already chipping fresh out the package, quite unfortunate, but they're still badass. I love how they made them different heights, too.
I plan on getting shredder, a foot soldier and a kraang as well, eventually. Need to spend wisely nowadays. |
