Bebop and Rocksteady, what happened to the animals?

I was watching the Fred Wolf show and started thinking about the fact that Bebop and Rocksteady were human before they mutated. Robots took the rhino and warthog from the zoo and then we see the animals together with the thugs. Yet once they are mutated the animals are gone.

So what happened to the animals? Did they combine with them or did Shredder just put the animals back?

Drose18 09-22-2012 10:17 PM

I sorta implied that they took DNA from the animals and put it in the mutagen then used it on rocksteady and bebop. I gotta watch it again... Tomorrow.

Jester 09-22-2012 10:22 PM

Nope, Donnie, the animals were on hand when Bebop and Rocksteady were mutated. I figure once Bebop and Rocksteady "came in contact" with them, Shredder either "disposed" of them or perhaps kept them in the Technodrome for future mutants....maybe.

CyberCubed 09-22-2012 10:31 PM

The actual animals were probably just sent back to the zoo to roam around.

Why would they combine with them? Did you actually pay attention to the turtles' origin story?

pannoni1 09-22-2012 10:51 PM

Once an animal (or any other living thing for that matter) mutates with another lifeform, the assumption is that both lifeforms have united with each other. There aren't four pet Turtles, a rat, a snapping turtle, a wolf, a lizard, a fly, or anything else that separates.

If that was the case, the Turtles would have united with Yoshi.
Try again.

Cowabunga Carl 09-22-2012 10:57 PM

It is something to think about. I mean with the idea that IDW might start going human to animal I wonder if they will address this. I mean it is a little point but something that is kind of fun to think about.

CyberCubed 09-22-2012 11:11 PM

The animals did not merge into human bebop/rocksteady

Cowabunga Carl 09-22-2012 11:59 PM

We should all just ask Cubed every question for answers, that way we wouldn't need threads. I mean it is awesome that we have someone with so much knowledge and inside information on the board. :trolleye::tgrumble:

I am Jester, and I approve this message. :D

In the turtles forever movie Hun mutates into a turtle by coming in contact with them and the mutagen but no one "disappeared".:-? Now I'm confused..

cryan 09-23-2012 06:09 AM

Ok,you guys are putting way too much brain power on this.I am reminded by the line in the Mystery Science 3000 theme song"just say to yourself it's just a show and should really just relax".

Original TMNT Cartoon Fan 09-23-2012 07:08 AM

Technodrome or Zoo

Just kept in Technodrome or, what I suppose, sent back too zoo.

Cowabunga Carl 09-23-2012 08:43 AM

Swedenfan that's kind of what I was thinking. It is interesting though that they go through the procedure of explaining how animals to mutant works, but never really went into how human to mutant works. Or at least if they did I must have blinked and missed it.

Jephael 09-23-2012 08:52 AM

According to their discussion in #25 of the Archie comics Bebop and Rocksteady did infact merge with their animal counterparts the same way Baxter Stockman merged with the fly. It's what they call a cross-mutation.

chrisdude 09-23-2012 10:12 AM

Technodrom garbage chute.

This merging talk is giving me the creeps. You mutate halfway into whatever you were last in contact with.

I'll pop in the DVD, anyway, since it's sitting right here.

chrisdude 09-23-2012 10:33 AM

Looks like this is the last you see of them.

Shredder opens the canister, and the scene cuts. Next time you see Bebop and Rocksteady, they're mutants.

So yeah, garbage chute.

hi_polymer 09-23-2012 11:01 AM

I don't understand the confusion here. It was fairly straightforward that a human becomes mutated into the animal that he/she last came in contact with. With Yoshi it was a rat, with Bebop and Rocksteady most likely Shredder forced them to come in contact with the animals.

That was one of the other reasons I started thinking about this. As stated the rules for animal to mutant are quite clear, however the rules from human to mutant are more murky.

Splinter wasn't with the rats last though, he was with the turtles cleaning them. So the rule saying last animal in contact with should have changed him into another Turtle.

Ninjinister 09-23-2012 11:31 AM

Dinner. I'm certain Shredder doesn't just eat turtle soup.

plasticturtle 09-23-2012 02:57 PM

I'm pretty sure they're dead. Shredder and Krang don't seem like the types to take the time to return the animals to the zoo. Once the animals outlived their usefullness they were probably disposed of.

Blade Raider 09-23-2012 03:14 PM

Bebop and Rocksteady started having nostalgistic memories of the zoo the animals came from in Planet of the Turtleoids as if they were the animals at one point. I can only figure the animals and humans were fused together to make Bebop and Rocksteady.

Drose18 09-23-2012 03:19 PM

They probably used the ooze that was in turtles forever that mutates you with the last animal you were in contact with. A weaker version of that mutagen.

MikeandRaph87 09-23-2012 03:21 PM

I always thought that the Roadkill Rodney robots brought them back to the zoo off screen between when Shredder applied the mutagen and when the turtles come for Splinter. It was never said the two animals fate but it made sense to me.

Winters and I attribute Yoshi's mutation into a rat to rat hair on his kimono....and the fact that the series needed Splinter some how, and not a 5th Turtle.

As to the fate of at least the rhino, aren't their horns a potent aphrodisiac? Maybe Shredder and Krang....ok, I'll stop.

Wait... I heard an ever better explanation recently...

I think it was the fact that Yoshi stepped into the mutagen after he had had the most recent contact with the rats. So he was exposed before he even handled the turtles.

Of course, I still think rat hairs is a pretty good explanation myself!

Can't remember, dude. It's all such a blur!

That night, he dined on pork chops and rhino rumproast.

zkarlette 09-24-2012 08:52 AM

I wonder what PETA would think of this thread..:P

FoxZerro 09-24-2012 10:35 AM

I always imagined that Shredder found a way to merge them, and that is why it was such a different set up for their mutation. I support the cross-mutation idea because they definitely did have those memories of their lives as animals in Archie 25. Plus I figured it explained why they became so much more powerful

That was in Archie which remember started with the same seven adventures before taking a very different path. In Archie prominely #23-25, which was thier last story aside from a couple of flashback tales, Bebop and Rocksteady were merged as shown by thier animal insticts and enjoyment of the Eden planet. In the '87 cartoon they were humans turned into humaniod animals much the way Hamato Yoshi was turned into a humaniod rat.

I mean, it's physical contact, right? Yoshi could've touched the ooze on Mikey's shell before he touched the shell. I dunno. I don't remember the scene that precisely.

If I had to speculate:

Faction A) Krang/Stockman: They mutate animals into humanoids. Evidence: It's all we've ever seen them do.

Faction B) Foot Clan: They mutate humans into animals. Evidence: Bebop and Rocksteady seemed to express their desire to mutate in the Raphael special... that they did this at all would imply that they knew it was within the realm of the Foot Clan's abilities and perhaps had already been done before. And the upcoming cover with the lady with a fox mask, if it's a present day and not Feudal Times (which is a big question) lady, would directly imply that either Alopex is a human mutated into a fox or is a human reincarnated into a fox.

When it probably becomes revealed that Ch'rell is a benefactor of the Foot Clan (not necessarily The Shredder or Oroku Saki), we're looking at a massive war between mutants and ninjas, Krang's faction vs. Ch'rell's faction. I bet there'll be some side-switching too. Like, maybe Baxter packs his bags and goes to Saki's corner... then gets mutated into a fly or something.

sdp 09-24-2012 10:40 PM

You only mutate after the thing you were last contact with, that just means the other animals weren't exposed to mutagen but since rocksteady/beebop where they mutated into those animals.

Now Yoshi turning into a rat instead of a turtle requires a more elaborate explanation of him being around rats more or maybe the rat touched him after he touched the turtles.

I think the most appropriate (i.e. the only) response to this statement, is this clip.
