Color Classics #5 - Misprint?

So my copy's got a doubled page. The page with Blanque and the Triceraton barking orders is duplicated near the end of the book.

I read a review of the book that didn't mention this, so I'm wondering if I'm alone in it?

Also: many of the Ps in the book are instead Rs. I don't know if that's in the original or not because I don't have it in front of me.

Archon_Turtle 10-11-2012 02:02 AM

mine has the double page as well.

HotJuicyBurgers 10-11-2012 08:55 AM

OOooooohhhh

I hope mine does too :)

Hmmm, I haven't picked mine up yet...very curious about this. I may have to stop by a few shops tonight to take a look at their copies. Will update when I find out.

dkram230 10-11-2012 09:53 AM

I paged through mine last night after I picked it up and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Though I wasn't looking for anything nor did I read it cover to cover. I'll have to check out my copy after work and see. If it is an error, I may need to grab a few more before a recall is issued :)

CyberCubed 10-11-2012 06:53 PM

These color classics are full of errors. I am surprised they're still putting them out, sales must be low.

Toby Barrett 10-11-2012 07:13 PM

Pretty poorly.

September:

129 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ongoing #14 17,682
161 Tmnt Micro Series #8 13,356
231 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics #4 7,322

About 10,000 less than the ongoing series.

oldmanwinters 10-11-2012 07:19 PM

I didn't buy this one, but I check most of the ones in my comic shop and they didn't seem to have errors by my estimation. But I couldn't really remember which page I needed to be looking for either.

Leonardo87 10-11-2012 07:29 PM

I hate to sound like an echo; but mine was misprinted too.

Coro 10-11-2012 08:30 PM

I need a more specific page to look at. All my P's appear to be correct though.

Found it in my book. Lol that's friggen funny! The page is duplicated. It belongs in the middle of the book but randomly finds itself near the end of the book as well. I have a picture of the page in question attached. Pulled out the original print from 1985 just to make sure and the error is not there and of course it is not (figured i wouldda noticed by now if it was!) I wonder if they'll just leave it as is or do a recall/destroy.

On that note, mine also has the misprinted page. I did not see any of the P for R's, but this page was definitely duplicated.

Thanks for the post it helped me find it.

Look at dkram's post above yours to see what I mean for an example. The triceraton says "carture'.

rich 10-11-2012 10:43 PM

Sure enough, this duplicated page is in every copy I looked at. I took a look at over 10 copies of this at various shops all over Denver and it's in all of them. Given the type of error that this is, I'd be very surprised if there are any copies without this error. The error itself isn't a bindery issue (where the print vendor mistakenly binds an additional sheet into the book - which would produce multiple duplicated pages). So, unless the print vendor messed with the pages in the source files from IDW, this likely originated at IDW and was sent to the vendor this way.

I asked a few shop owners what they thought IDW would do with this (i.e., recall it or leave it). They all had the same opinion that nothing would happen since it's not a popular book and it would cost too much for so little gain. One owner said she still had nearly all her copies of the previous 2 Color Classics and that she wasn't ordering any more in the future unless they were specifically requested by customers.

Too bad...these had good potential.

CyberCubed 10-11-2012 11:03 PM

The color classics seemed doomed from the start. All the Mirage fans already bought the Ultimate Collections, and all the other issues are being collected in color as well.

Releasing single colored issues of the Mirage stuff made no sense. I admittedly would pick up a collection of the color classics, if they fixed the errors in them.

oldmanwinters 10-12-2012 06:23 AM

Yes, I've been kinda let down by the Color Classics as well, and I've only bought the Raphael Micro-Series.

But I REALLY wanna see the Michelangelo Micro colorized in all its Christmas-y glory. I'd totally buy that one too.

frank_one 10-12-2012 12:11 PM

I hope we'll see Leo #1 and issue #10 and.. Return to NY.

TomWaltz 10-12-2012 12:47 PM

This one is on me, folks. Somewhere between our proofing stage and the printer, a file got overwritten with the wrong page number (filename), hence the duplicate. I missed this before it went to the printer and we didn't realize it had happened until reading this thread on the Technodrome.

Feel terrible about this -- totally my bad as I should have caught it. We have fixed the filename error, however, so if anyone plans to buy the trade collections down the line, this duplicate page will no longer exist.

Huge apologies from me to you! Besides the new colors, we are doing our very best to maintain the original integrity of the Mirage books and I most certainly dropped the ball with issue #5. No excuses.

Onward!

Tom W.

No worries my man...happens to the best of us.

So, just so we're on the same page, you have fixed the file internally for future uses (collected trades) but won't be re-issuing a corrected version of the single issue, correct?

That is correct.

And thanks for understanding -- this is the kinda thing that eats away at an editor's guts. Nobody feels worse than we do when we spot mistakes too late, trust me.

On the bright side, I'm looking at the Michelangelo PDF proof today and it looks fantastic!

Talk soon...

Trust me, Tom...I know all about this. I have stared and stared and stared at copy for hours upon end to get it perfect only to find later that there's a misspelling or an omission or some other imperfection in the final product. Our minds are funny that way...ever look at a common word so much that it starts to look misspelled (even though you know it's not)? Just had that this morning with the word "Regular." Weird. :ohwell:

Typically this would necessitate a complete reprint wouldn't it? Normally in these circumstances replacements or refunds are sent ... aren't they?

I mean this isn't some bad printing, we are missing a page from the story. That's a pretty major misprint. Isn't it?

Close. Period goes inside quotes at the end of a sentence. :P

True, on this side of the pond; everywhere else uses the denotation in context. *jabjab* :twink:

When it comes down to the bottom line, the book doesn't sale enough to demand a corrected reprint.

The best solution, for those who want a correct comic without trade-waiting, is to upload the page online and allow for download (like Mirage did for "Future Tense").

For the record, the attached contains the missing page.

Seeing RTNY was the only issues I was really curious about seeing colorized.

Thank you, Tom! You rock!

See folks, wasn't that easy? Now, head to Kinko's and print on glossy paper and quitcherbitchin.

Aside from the goof, I really love the coloring in this book for some reason. Part of it may be my love for this book in general, because the original wrap around art is one of my favorite covers ever!

Does this issue retain the wraparound cover? One of the drawbacks for me was that the 1st and 2nd issues didn't, so I haven't really been checking them out since...

Unfortunately, it does not. That's the only thing I don't like about the Color Classics.

Personally, I'd rather have an extra inside page of ads if it meant having the wraparound cover.

CyberCubed 10-12-2012 03:18 PM

Did it just get slipped that trades of the color classics are planned? Wow, that wasn't supposed to be mentioned yet, was it?

That's exactly what I was holding out for since I had a feeling they would be collected.

And they should be affectionately called the "Second" colored graphic novels. :trazz:

HotJuicyBurgers 10-12-2012 04:18 PM

So does that mean that every single copy of this book has the doubled page?

Ha!

I've been enjoying the color classics, despite the occasional mistakes. The more turtles books I pick up a month, the happier I am :tgrin: I do miss the wrap around covers tho. I was looking forward to #5 in particular b/c of that :ohwell:
