TMNT cameo in Wreck-It Ralph
So... apparently the original TMNT Arcade gets a shout-out (of sorts) in the movie.
Looks like they went to the trouble to create all-new side art but they blurred out the name (perhaps out of legal concerns). Weird. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56...WarsArcade.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56...Ralph-TMNT.jpg This was the most recent trailer, but it looks like it's a dead link now. around 0:06-0:07 Mods, feel free to delete or merge this thread with this one: http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/sho...47#post1009847 I just felt like it was news-worthy enough to warrant it's own thread. |
That is so awesome! Makes me wish the TMNT themselves would appear in Wreck-It Ralph. :tgrin:
|
That's cool. Can't wait to see the movie.
|
Man, Disney's really getting ballsy with these pop culture references.
|
That is pretty cool.
|
Well you can actually see a little bit of Leo there.. But I find it really strange that they would have gotten Nintendo and Capcom on board and not the TMNT.
|
Here's another angle I found:

There are a number of classic video game cabinets in those screenshots which I'm surprised they would have bothered to get legal clearance to use.
There is a Star Wars Arcade cabinet directly across from the TMNT game, and a Tapper game behind it. Frogger is against the back wall, which is apparently under the Konami umbrella at the moment (I think). So maybe Disney did strike a deal with Konami which gave them semi-access to the TMNT cabinet likeness? |
Does Konami still hold all the rights to the TMNT arcade game, or would Disney have to go through them and Nick to legally use the game in Wreck-It Ralph?

I feel like if they can get Sonic and Bowser, they could swing TMNT. Maybe they got rights for the machine to appear in the movie, but not in promotions. Or maybe the game and the logo are owned by different entities, and they only got the rights to display the game.
|
These things are so fast, especially this "cameo" that unless you are really looking for it, you aren't going to see it. Besides, even if Disney doesn't have the legal means, who is going to take Disney to court?
|
No doubt this cameo it's because of the popularity that theTMNT arcade game had in the good old days, Disney is using all the nostalgia they can to hype their movie, and its working =D
|
Pac-Man is there, too, as well as Frogger.
You know, the Pac-Man ghost appears at the press conference with Ralph and several other characters. What do you think will happen to the arcade when Ralph leaves his game to become a hero? |

Not exactly. It could really go either way (based on Donny's 2k3 colors).

LOL, you know what's the biggest nostalgia trip of the whole movie....?
That an arcade facility actually exists ...at least now a days in the U.S.A. (unlike Japan). The prevalence of arcades is 10% today compared to its heyday in the 80s to early 90s. |

I wanna say I've seen Mario Kart cabinets, but then again if that's the case we wouldn't have Sugar Rush.

So has anyone seen the movie? I thought it was great!

Cool find! There should be an official TMNT cameo thread. XD
I don't know if this is news.. but I spotted a TMNT Arcade in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...n/TMNTMMPR.jpg |

I completly missed that while I was watching the film, Good Eye!!!!
|
I was surprised too when i saw that arcade cabinet doing a brief cameo and it was neat to see one of the best arcade games do an appearance.
|
What's the point of having the arcade there when their just gonna slad certain essential parts of it. Isn't that kind of visual unpleasantries just bad business? Moreover, they could might as well avoid using the tmnt arcade machine if they aren't going to show it as a whole.
