TMNT boardgame/dio -pic heavy-

Hello, I'm new to this site, I wanted to share the project I'm currently working on... It's a totally modular boardgame based on Ninja Turtles. It has street level and sewer level maps, and will involve racing around the city, trying to stop Shredder from spreading havoc. Anyway, here's an example of one of the maps, the buildings all collapse flat for storage and everything is swappable.

Most everything is scratch-built and hand painted. I'm around 80% complete and busting hump to get this thing done.

D-Nizzy 10-20-2012 07:38 AM

Here's a look at a sample sewer map:

The "sewage" in the center is really glossy, so in person it looks like water. Again these are all modular pieces for a variety of map possibilities.

Thanks for looking!

Drose18 10-20-2012 07:45 AM

Amazing!!! This is the coolest thing ive ever seen!!! I want that street map!

Plasticplayhouse 10-20-2012 11:51 AM

that is probably the best tmnt dio i've ever seen. well done! the only suggestion i have for you to consider would be to maybe paint a thin layer of gloss over that stream of sewage. it would enhance the realistic look of it.

Wes 10-20-2012 01:18 PM

As awesome as this is -- and it's totally awesome -- I REALLY want to play the game now! Invite me over once it's done, eh? :D

Powder 10-20-2012 02:14 PM

God damn, dude. Amazing.

***First of Two Latin Kings*** 10-20-2012 07:23 PM

This would be better suited to the NECA line. :tgrin:

In person it looks really glossy, it just didn't translate in the photos for whatever reason.

Absolutely! I'm in CT, I don't know how much of a hike that is for you, but I'll let you know when it's finished!

Thanks, I was going for a comic book look. I've always felt the Turtles' universe is kind of exagerated.

Here's a look at another sewer map as well as some of the pickup items. The grappling hook has hand holds for scaling buildings in game...

For some reason, the pizza doesn't look as good in the photos. It looks really cool in person.

twopinacoladas 10-21-2012 02:28 PM

That is simply amazing grat job man!

Jester 10-21-2012 02:39 PM

Yes, "grate" job with the sewer map.

See what I did? Grate....it's a sewer pun....oh never mind.

TheCanadiandrome 10-21-2012 07:44 PM

Nice work!

TonySiegel 10-21-2012 09:21 PM

wooowwwwww man! loll this is great for real, for real... much props and keep it flowing!

[this makes me want to get into dungeons and dragons]

raven6859 10-26-2012 06:57 PM

Simply stunning! Surely the greatest board game of all time?

D-Nizzy 11-01-2012 09:39 AM

Some of the printed materials have come in. Here's a pic of the NYC map, the hero cards and the enemy stats. The Turtle Van token is used to represent the Turtle's location on the NYC map.

Thank you, I'm glad to see so much excitement for this project. Right now I'm just building the prototype for my own entertainment. I'm not sure how I'd go about mass producing it, so far I've clocked at least 80 hours on it. Does anybody know anyone at Playmates? :trolleye:

gunstarheroblue 11-02-2012 03:48 PM

wow!

man, the amount of work you've placed into this is staggering ,right down to the tiny Props, beyond Epic.

TheCanadiandrome 11-02-2012 06:31 PM

Wow, this is beyond epic!

This is mind blowing! I feel inspired! I love dioramas and modular 3d game boards so this is like the best thing in the world to me

zkarlette 11-02-2012 09:47 PM

Looks incredible! The buildings look great and the overall detail is Amazing!:)

Ulisses31 11-02-2012 10:18 PM

Amazing, try to crowdfund it?

Eiko 11-03-2012 12:45 AM

Wow that is one awesome looking game.

The Boston Ninja Turtle 11-05-2012 03:45 PM

this is amazing, i wish i had the talent to do this i want it

D-Nizzy 11-05-2012 03:51 PM

Thanks all. It's been a huge project but I'm starting to see the finish line. Some more printed materials came in today. Here's a look at the Skill cards and the Feat cards. Skills are special abilities that the turtles can learn as they progress, and feats are special abilities that are executed once and then the card is discarded.

If I finish by December I'll be pretty happy. It should be possible... I hope.

oldmanwinters 11-05-2012 04:29 PM

Love your board design and action figure placement!

ImDoneItsOver 11-05-2012 04:55 PM

My G0D the cost must be crazy but wow if this ever hit market (try Kickstarter.com) then I am IN!

bryman 11-06-2012 12:08 AM

What size squares are you using? and what chance do we have at seeing the rule book?

The squares are 2-1/2", and the rule book is a series of scribbles in a spiral notebook at the moment. I've been tweeking the rules as I build the thing, so the rule book will probably be the last thing I finish.

The game play is a hybrid of Descent and Heroscape, with a little bit of Arkham Horror thrown into the mix. The play should be faster than Descent, with more plot than Heroscape, and the race against time factor of Arkham Horror.

Plus the property-trading fun of Monopoly. Wait. That's the new Transformers game I'm working on. :trazz:

Zany Orange Dude 11-06-2012 08:44 AM

I'd totally dish out some money for this thing to! This is just astounding! I tip my hat at you sir for all the hours of work and effort you put into this creation! It certainly shows!:tgrin:

Hasbro and Parker Brothers already released Transformers Monopoly, dude. I bought the shell out of that game. It's dope. :tgrin:

Seriously, though, I'm curious about this TMNT game you're making. Clearly you've put a LOT of effort into the maps/boards. I think supplying us with a rule book (when it's completed, natch!) would be totally rad, so that we can get a feel for what you've got going on up there.

D-Nizzy 11-10-2012 06:17 PM

One of the reasons I decided to make this thing was to be able to use the buildings with other action figure lines. Here's a few pictures of the map "Warehouse at pier 92" with some Joes instead of turtles...

Omg dude! Epic!

bryman 11-11-2012 02:28 AM

Depending on the rules, it looks like you could use this for any action figure line!

zodiac brave 11-11-2012 01:26 PM

as a couple others have suggested...CROWDFUND THIS THING! seriously i'd toss some $$ at a kickstarter campaign if it meant getting a copy of this.

:D

Shredder74 11-11-2012 04:01 PM

Unbelievable....This is just too cool...

Tmnt Boss 11-12-2012 08:24 AM

The update is epic.
