When you were a kid, did you think Usagi Yojimbo was a TMNT character?
When I was a kid I thought Usagi Yojimbo was a TMNT character. I didn't know any better, between his two episodes and his two toys (Usagi and Space Usagi), in the toyline I simply thought he was another TMNT character.
I did not discover he had his own comic series until sometime in late 1999 I believe, when I started to seriously research the Mirage comics as I was then old enough to start buying them myself. What about you? |
It wasn't until last year, like a lot of deep TMNT knowledge that I saw that Usagi wasn't a TMNT character. I barely noticed him as a kid though, and just saw him as another character of the day, and I never had his figure.
I did, but not for long.
I guess so...I didn't think of Usagi often. :P

usagi yojimbo was one of my fave non-turtle figures. sidenote: NO IDEA about space usagi UNTIL NOW. research mode: ACTIVATE! :tmad: |
I got into TMNT before I learned about comic books so yeah, I thought Usagi was just a TMNT character.
Yes
Yes. I knew he had an own comic book, but I thought it was a TMNT spinoff.
I just found out while reading this post. I even have one of his comics, but I thought it was a turtles spin off too.
It's sort of the other way around for me. We had TMNT on VHS, but I was big on comics, so I already knew Usagi Yojimbo was a separate series. In fact, UY was what made me realize that turtles were also comic book characters.
lol i actually found out a couple months ago ON THIS WEBSITE :teek:
Nah dude, I thought he was a Power Rangers character.
The first time I saw him was on a comic book cover at a flea market, Usagi Yojimbo #10. Leonardo was also on the cover, so I thought it was some foreign TMNT comic. After reading the issue, I realized otherwise. This was probably around 1988.
I remember hoping they would release a Cerebus figure in the OT line, since they released Usagi, which was creator-owned too. |
Of course... but shortly after my friends and I found out from one of their older brothers.
I definitely thought he was a TMNT character. I was only 10. So sue me.
I can't really remember much about my youth, so it wouldn't be fair to answer.

To be honest, I honestly can't remember if I did or not. I did know about the Usagi Yojimbo comic for quite a long time, but I honestly have no idea what my earliest memories of the Miyamoto Usagi character are, if they relate to TMNT, or even if I had thought he was a TMNT character.
I first heard of Usagi through the "Samurai Warrior" game on my Amstrad CPC - I had no idea Usagi was a comics character at the time (and this would have been before I was aware of TMNT at all). I was pretty surprised when he showed up in the TMNT cartoon a couple of years later...
The first indication that he was something more came for me personally when I happened upon the Usagi Yojimbo video game for the Commodore 64 computer that had absolutely nothing to do with TMNT:
http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0...ame1_large.gif I do remember being very excited about adding his character to my collection that same year though. He was first non-turtle (aside from Splinter of course) that I absolutely had to have on my "good guys" team. |

I had always thought he was a TMNT character and only discovered within the past year that he had his own comic series.
Well, until this site, I just thought he was that rabbit that was apart of TMNT, so, yes. I learned his name from being here.
I'm not going to lie - when I was a kid I thought he was just a side character for the TMNT series. I was about... -thinks- 4 maybe. Can't really remember. I'm sure I was a little older than that though depending on when he first showed up in the classic toon.
However when I got older and realized that wasn't the case - I got hooked on the Usagi Yojimbo comics. |
I originally discovered Usagi in the comics so it wasn't until later that I found out he had appeared in TMNT toy and toon form.
Also: Panda Khan was not originally a TMNT character. |

The reason for Li Yang’s (the Panda Khan's) inclusion into the TMNT Playmates Toys fold aside from creator’s Dave Garcia and Monica Sharp’s friendship and association with Mirage Studios was also that at some point P.K. was to appear in the original TMNT cartoon show, similar to the effect of the deal made with Stan Sakai and the now iconic cross-over history that Usagi Yojimbo and his friends have had with the TMNT. Wow... I never knew Panda Khan was planned for the cartoon too. O_O
I first learned of Usagi Yojimbo through the TMNT cartoon and assumed he was a character in it, before learning in a comic book shop that he was a separate character. In fact, I was reluctant to pick up the Usagi Yojimbo comic in the shop because the cartoon depicted him as such an imbecile. I did pick up that comic after seeing the movie "Monty Python And The Holy Grail", and those who have also seen it will know why. The letter column of the Usai Yojimbo comic did contain a number of complaints about how he was depicted in the TMNT cartoon, and if I were Stan Sakai, I would have been displeased at that depiction too. :trazz:
