TMNT #17 (IDW) - Covers

...the covers for #17.

Cover A - Bates

Cover B - Eastman

Cover RI - Kuhn

Coro 11-01-2012 07:20 PM

The 1st 2 look amazing! (Still not on board with Kuhn)

LeoNerdo 11-01-2012 07:21 PM

Man I can't wait to see Bates' work inside the covers!

I THOUGHT that's who was picking up but I wasn't sure. Yeah if thats all him then I am in for his turtles....looks good.

FearlessLeader 11-01-2012 07:23 PM

Wow one of the few times I prefer the cover Eastman didn't do! :teek:

Venom 11-01-2012 07:27 PM

Oh wow, Bates's cover is amazing! :wow:

Wonder if Zak, Dask, and Cala are making their official debut or if they're on there for the sake of familiarity?

Kevin's cover makes me curious to know what Chet/Honeycutt/Fugitoid and April are discussing?

Matches Malone 11-01-2012 07:32 PM

Oh man, BB 2012! Let's hope his interiors are as good as his covers!

Eastman's cover is interesting. It looks like April sitting with Chet. Looks like the 'Toid is about to make his reveal in this issue!

oldmanwinters 11-01-2012 08:07 PM

Gwahh!!! I'm in love with Cover A. Michelangelo is striking his classic "Let's Rock" pose from "Turtle Tracks" while the turtles are facing off against what looks to be a more twisted interpretation of Zak, Dask, and Kala!

I'm surprised at how each of the variants seems to portray a remarkably different subject too. Are the TMNT & Casey trying to set a trap for Chet using April as the hook?

Dirty Blond 11-01-2012 08:10 PM

Regarding Cover A:

"Hold the phone, I (don't) think we're on the same side!"

Bye bye, joke. Great minds, they say. :P

CyberCubed 11-01-2012 08:51 PM

I am surprised they look almost exactly the same as their OT designs. We've never had that for any other character.

Krang's android body looks nothing like his OT one, and both Traag and Granitor look very different as well. Very surprised here.

Bebop and Rocksteady look very similar.

Didn't people think the two Neutrinos Krang killed in #14 were Zak and Dusk? I guess they weren't.

I was thinking that myself. It is possible that the cover is more of a teaser than an accurate reflection as to which Neutrinos might tangle with the Turtles in the actual issue, however.

pannoni1 11-01-2012 09:20 PM

To me, that blank spot towards the bottom of Kuhn's just doesn't work for me, but Covers A and B rock! But cover A signifies that the Neutrinos are going to turn against the Turtles at some point since they wouldn't all be fighting each other. Surprised though how close Krang itself looks to Fred Wolf's. I hope its good since this will be released around Christmas, which is a great time to build many plots!

Maybe, but I can't think of a single primary cover of IDW that didn't reflect what happened in the books. I doubt they would take the trouble to draw them exactly as they were portrayed in the OT if they weren't going to use them

Metropoliskid41 11-01-2012 09:43 PM

Those are fantastic covers, I love all 3 of them, and wow can't wait to see Bates interior work, his covers look amazing.

Matches Malone 11-01-2012 10:11 PM

Just goes to show that an artist can make all the difference, especially in a TMNT book! I wasn't really on board with Neutrinos, but if they look like that in the book, I'm sold!

The first three didnt reall reflect the interior plot. But then again... It was the first three issues to introduce the turtles in a long time.

Im actually loving all the covers... Khun's cover being the least. But still a good krang cover. I guess I agree with pannoni in that his covers are so plain-looking with the simple backgrounds. Bates' cover is straight up awesome and I'm loving every part of it. It's so lively. And Eastman's cover isn't my favorite but it's still really cool. Guess I have to pick up a and b again.

Matches is right... the neutrinos look crazy awesome in bates' cover. Far from what the neutrinos looked like in the fugitoid micro. They look so different like they they're from different races. I guess being in a rebel faction requires cool-looking armor. :tsmile:

Panda_Kahn_fan 11-01-2012 10:30 PM

YES! THEY'RE BACK! Ever since the Neutrinos were mentioned, I was hoping those three would show up! I wonder if Mikey and Kala will have an attraction...

AleXviD 11-01-2012 11:10 PM

You know, ever since those Dask&Zak looking dudes (who is who, btw?) were supposedly killed by the Krang's guard I was really glad 'cuz I thought creators decided not to spend precious time on those annoying pests (and was really surprised by how many people actually dislike Neutrinos), but now, seeing this awesome Bates' cover, I actually don't mind them sticking a little longer. I just hope his interior work would be good as well.

Toby Barrett 11-01-2012 11:11 PM

Bates' interior work is awesome in EVERYTHING he's worked on.

CyberCubed 11-01-2012 11:17 PM

The guys art looks very, very good. This is the guy you should hope sticks around for the entire duration of the IDW series lifespan if possible.

Lampy 11-01-2012 11:24 PM

i totally agree... I really hope he stays. His turtles are perfect.

Powder 11-02-2012 03:59 AM

Fantastic covers across the board!

Plasticplayhouse 11-02-2012 04:50 AM

Great covers. I love BB's rendition of the turtles, they have a mirage/campbell feel to them. I wish he drew them traditionally, but I'm pretty sure he does all his stuff digitally. Point being so I could (hopefully) buy some of his OA.

No OA? Well... At least then I can concentrate on sinking my money elsewhere lol

Crabfight 11-02-2012 08:08 AM

In reference to Cover A and most recent issue:

Spoiler:
Man. Mikey seems to be saving Leo a lot these days!

junkboy 11-02-2012 09:07 AM

I had hated the preview of Bates' Dimension X themed oversaturated cover. ( issue 18 ) Dripping too much OT and also too video-gamey. Just not my cup of tea. Too digital. I hope issue 18 cover will not look that way on paper.
While i am not a huge fan of the coloring of this one as well, it is indeed better and loved the energy and dynamics of the pencils.

As for the Eastman cover, other than i LOVE all Eastman ones, in that cover the scene integrates with the comic's title, something i enjoy to see at covers. Don and Mike being in front of the logo kinda gives them a bit of 3D feeling on 2D surface.

CyberCubed 11-03-2012 01:35 AM

I wonder if the Neutrinos lingo will go like this:

"That's right, Daddy-O!"

"You cubes are weird!"

"This is dullsville man, we're looking for faaaar-out beats!"

"This is some craaaazy space cases!"

And see the reasons you listed for hating Bates #18 cover are some of the reasons I love it. I don't think its looks too OT it reminds me more of Dooney's mirage art. I can't help but feel some nostalgia for that cover, it does look very Video Game-ish and that's why I love it. It really reminds of nights playing the Turtles video games on NES and SNES at my friends house all night. The only thing missing is the multi-colored foot soldiers :trazz:

Well after all , while covers are of course important indeed, inside story is the real deal. If the inner story will not be that way ( which we have to wait to see i guess ) it's ok :) If the story will be that way as well, I do not mean it will be uninteresting or with less quality btw. It will just be telling the story by a way i am not much of a fan at the Turtle mythos.

I did not have such a cold feeling towards Bates' issue 17 cover by the way as i said. In fact, (while not "loved" it) i really liked it.
Looking forward to the day we will be able to see some of Bates' interior work as preview.

My thoughts too!

Might be my favorite cover of the series.
