Who's dying for another Tournament Fighters?

Sure the new games have a VS mode built in, but that's nowhere close to what a true fighting game experience is. Thus I suggest Konami creates a long overdue sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters. A game which spanned three volumes on three different systems (sadly not on Gameboy). A 2D one much like the first for GBA and a 3D one for Gamecube (maybe something along the lines of Soul Calibur). I'd make it Gamecube exclusive because the first games came out on NES, SNES, and the Genesis. Dreamcast is long dead so that means for the series to continue "properly" (but I doubt it would, greedy Sony) then it should ONLY be released on Gamecube and GBA because the original was on two Nintendo systems. Any way below is a list of characters I'd include.

- Leonardo
- Donatello
- Raphael
- Michaelangelo
- Casey Jones
- April O'Neil (yes she fought in the Genesis one)
- Ray Fillet
- Armagedon
- Syphlas (or whatever the spider/beetle guy was named)
- Chrome Dome
- War
- Wing Nut
- Tatsu or Hun
- Leatherhead (new)
- Aska (previously exclusive to the SNES game, she'd probably look like a DOA girl in this game)
- Shredder

Secret Characters:
- Hot Head
- Lady Shredder (new) - from the IMAGE comics
- Karai
- Rat King
- Fugitoid (new) - just for fun
- Splinter (new)

The GBA game would have a smaller roster...

- Leo
- Raph
- Mike
- Don
- Casey
- Aska
- Chrome Dome
- Ray Fillet
- Leatherhead
- Shredder

Secret Characters:
- Hot Head
- Karai
- Rat King
- Fugitoid

Because most of the characters are from the comics they could tie it into the new series or the original comics. Giving it a more gritty feel. I'd keep the signature moves of each of the older characters and give the new ones moves to compliment those.

DrSpengler 05-28-2003 07:52 PM

The only Tournament Fighters I was ever fortunate enough to play was the one for the SNES and I still enjoy that one. An all around good fighting game that beats the pants off of a lot of other 2D fighters I've seen in recent years. I love how they included the special moves from the Manhatten Project as special attacks in the game.

Sadly, my Genesis broke so I'll never get to play that version and the NES version is pretty impossible to find (I'd love to play it, however).

Which version had Casey Jones? He's who I REALLY wanted to play as (though I made due with Leo and did just fine with him).

Ninja Tiptup 05-28-2003 08:06 PM

Casey was in both the Genesis and NES versions of the game. I really have no idea why he wasn't in the SNES one. Ah well...

I have both the NES and SNES versions. I'm currently trying to track down the Genesis one. You know if you are desperate to play it there are always emulators.

Wish I could but my computer can't handle emulators. Besides, I protest them. I prefer to play old-school NES games the way they were meant to be played...on my NES.

There's alway, eBay, however...

Nickokapo 05-28-2003 09:02 PM

As much as i'd love a new tournament fighters game, i'd probably be satisfied with the new tmnt game coming out already because it's a beat em up game and i love those.
tmnt + beat em up + cell shading = possibly one of the best games i'll play in my whole life :P
Seriously, it's got pretty much all i want in a game.
But yeah...i'd love it if they did another tournament fighter..even tho they did 3 different ones so you can't complain there ;)

I prefer to play the real deal as well, but for import games and games that I can't get I'll settle for emulators. Their is actually a M.U.G.E.N. version of the Genesis TMNT: Tournament Fighters if you can use M.U.G.E.N. It's pretty good, but not quite the same as playing on the Genesis. You'd get to use Casey though.

You're right about that 3 versions means that I should have NO complaints whatsoever, but a sequel to those games would be fantastic! There's yet to have been a portable one though so I'd say there should at least be that.

Nickokapo 05-28-2003 11:48 PM

Yeah i know what you mean, a sequel got it's good features too, like better graphics and soundtrack for example...i'm just glad we're getting a new game, not to mention a beat em up one :D specially because i was expecting a tomb-raider-ish one so this totally roxxors mah boxxors :P
I'd love a new TMNTTF game tho, even if it's in 3d.

EZweasel 05-29-2003 08:15 PM

Ill give the new one a chance, but i doubt it will be any good. I didnt like any of the turtle games except the first one for nintendo. Now that was an awsum game, but then they went down hill once they became a beat 'em up game. I wish the new one WOULD be more like the tomb raider game.

Blah, well, I'd scrap Aska for Ninjara. Or anything, I just feel she ought to be there too. I kinda like Inzane's setup.

Uhh, DUDE......... I dont know where you got that from.......
It is NINJITSU... The Art of Stealth... a term used to describe all the arts taught to a ninja including armed/unarmed combat, camouflage, and espionage. The word 'ninja' is debated because the definition describes the employed "mercenaries" trained in stealth and matial arts, and were often viewed as spies, saboteurs, and assassins... when some have countered the debate to state they are actually samurai warriors who need to cover thier faces to take such drastic action and hide who they really were.
Whatever the derivation... the word 'ninja' has become a word that instills fear an an appriciation for thier talent.

Dane E5R 06-01-2003 01:10 AM

Oohhh boy. You don't wanna debate heretic on this.

Tokka-B 06-01-2003 01:44 AM

Actually you both are wrong. It's called ninjotsu.

heretic888 06-01-2003 10:00 AM

Quote:

From authentic references (read: primary sources) within the historical ninja trradition itself.

Quote:

It is NINJITSU...
No, its not. The romanization "jitsu" is NOT a reference for the Japanese kaji for 'art' or 'technique'. "Jitsu" can mean either 'fruit' or 'truth' but not 'art'. The proper romanization is "jutsu". The only people that spell Japanese martial arts with a "jitsu" are ethnocentric North Americans with a complete ignorance of the Japanese language and culture.

Quote:

The Art of Stealth...
Actually, a more proper transliteration is the art of perseverence or endurance.

Quote:

a term used to describe all the arts taught to a ninja including armed/unarmed combat, camouflage, and espionage.
That depends on the context the word is used in.

Traditionally, 'ninjutsu' could have two primary contexts. On the one hand it could refer to the collective martial arts ryuha studied by the ninja (such as the case of 'Iga-ryu Ninjutsu') as you implied before. Yet, 'ninjutsu' could equally refer to specific martial arts ryu that emphasized the arts of 'stealing in' (such as in the case of Togakure-ryu Ninjutsu), and as such was not the only art studied by the ninja.

Either of these contexts is more or less equally true.

Quote:

The word 'ninja' is debated because the definition describes the employed "mercenaries" trained in stealth and matial arts, and were often viewed as spies, saboteurs, and assassins...
The word 'ninja' is often debated, but not for any of the reasons you cited. And, the ninja were not mercenaries in the first place, as financial gain was not their primary motivation.

Quote:

when some have countered the debate to state they are actually samurai warriors who need to cover thier faces to take such drastic action and hide who they really were.
While it is true that many of the major ninja ryuha (not all of which were 'ninjutsu' per se) have samurai origins (such as Togakure-ryu Ninjutsu, Gyokko-ryu Shitojutsu, Shinden Fudo-ryu Dakentaijutsu, Kukishinden-ryu Happo Hikenjutsu, and Iga-ryu Ninpo on the whole), that whole 'hiding their faces' thing is complete bull. The hoded mask usually shown in the movies was historically never used by the ninja.

Quote:

Whatever the derivation... the word 'ninja' has become a word that instills fear an an appriciation for thier talent.
Maybe 500 years ago in Japan, but not today. Nowadays, 'ninja' are seen as something of a joke (due in large part to individuals like you that think they know anything about the subject). Hollywood has left its mark.

In all sincerety, I suggest you do your homework before making ******** claims on this subject. I am actually something of a knowledgeable source on the subject (I know my resources) and I can tell you that you are WAY OFF from the truth on the matter.

Quote:

Oohhh boy. You don't wanna debate heretic on this.
Ditto.

Quote:

Actually you both are wrong. It's called ninjotsu.
This may suprise a narcissist such as yourself, Tokka, but the romanizations 'jitsu' and 'jutsu' actually refer to two different kanji. They are, literally, different words with different meanings. 'Jutsu' means art. 'Jitsu' means fruit.

Tokka-B 06-01-2003 05:30 PM

Those aren't the only meanings the words. Jutsu can mean practical art OR science. Jitsu can mean true, real, fruit, or berry. Anyone with any common sense knows that Dr. Hatsumi changed the word ninjutsu to Budo taijutsu, because that is what it is. Sheesh, people.....

If this was the Lords of Pain message board, about this time is where someone says:

Go Heretic! Go Heretic! Go Heretic!
And, I study the japanese language and yes it's jutsu!

Oh, and PM me about the Ninja clans that have Samurai origins. I love it when different Martial Arts traditions tie together!

back on topic: I'd love another Tournament fighters! But, Ninjara and Karai must be there, Casey too!

Tokka-B 06-01-2003 06:55 PM

Well well, it seems our little dojo dude has started a fan club of some sort...

*Fakes "Go Heretic, ra ra sis boom ba"*

Anyway, it would be nice to have a new fighter for turtles, but only because there has been a low for fighting games recently. Of course it would have to be nothing like the TF...

Quote:

Heh... you can't say "ninjitsu"... err, "ninjutsu" without Heretic hearing you.
I repeat: damn skippy! :D

In all seriousness, though, the reason I emphasize the semantics is because 'jutsu' and 'jitsu' are two different words with two different meanings, even though they are somewhat phonetically similar. It would be like if someone speaking Japanese began interchanging the word 'America' for 'towel'.

Quote:

Uh oh! Azure said "itsu"! Run away before Heretic dishes out a batch of shuriken on us!! (God help me if I spelled that wrong)
Alright, that's it. Just watch me go grab my ninjer sword. I'm gonna flip out and kill everyone now. Without even thinking twice. Real Ultimate Power!!

Please don't make claims about subject matter you know practically nothing about. Most of the ryuha of the Bujinkan have 'ninja roots' to varying degrees.

Just ask me a specific question, and I will answer to the best of my ability.... really, though, most of the 'samurai origins' of the ninja ryuha come from the fact that many of the 'founders' of the lineages (such as Togakure Daisuke and Izumo Kanja Yoshiteru) were defeated samurai forced into Iga. Although some of them were very respected samurai (both Iga Heinabe Yashukiyo and Tozawa Hakuunsai were vassals under the Minamoto family, as was Hattori Hanzo to the Tokugawa) that still held their official titles.

Thats really sad when somebody thinks someone has somebody's @$$ just because he types about 3 or 4 paragraphs.

Anybody can type that long...
all you gotta do is blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ................

then, everyone 'll think yer talkin big 'cuz nobody goes back to read it, cuz its a waste of time

owned....... MY @$$!!!

GK Punk 06-07-2003 05:06 PM

Either that or maybe we think Heretic "Owned" Tokka because Heretic was speaking facts about the subject instead of just pretending he knows what he's talking about

Edit: Plus, it's true if this was the LoP boards atleast FIve people would have said OWNED after that

ThirdMarioBro 06-08-2003 08:31 PM

If they made another Tournament Fighters, I would want it to be 3D on the big consoles, and a 2D version for GBA. Maybe an altered version of the original for GBA. They would have to change April & Shredder and a few other things, but it could be done.
