Official Ep Discussion: #8 "Never say Xever"

*rubs hands together evilly*

So.... last week's storm kinda put a monkey wrench in everything. Hopefully tonight's Nor'easter won't bring as many problems. I just hope NY and NJ make it through alright...

I really wish we could embed Nick Videos...

Speaking of problems... it looks like we're getting our first Leo-Centric story of the show. And it seems he may end up having a little history with our resident Capoeira convict Xever.

It looks like Leo's attempt to be Captain Ryan may backfire on him. With a slap to his junior officer and a suave grin, the captain may be able to save planets and otherworldly citizens. But it won't be that easy for our young leader-in-training...

What I am most curious about is the description of this episode:
Quote:

Leo fears his act of mercy has come back to haunt him when Xever holds a local noodle shop owner hostage.
What is this 'act of mercy'? Is this something that Leonardo does in this episode, or has Leo and Xever met in the past? And what's with holding a noodle shop owner hostage? Unless he's kidnapped Mr. Ping, and we're gonna get a Kung Fu Panda cameo...

Our boys are gonna also have another close encounter with the Foot kind... let's hope for another peek at the Shredder before next week!

Stay Tuned!

Rise and Shine, Sleepyheads! :D

I'm opening early, since I gotta be somewhere for most of the day....

BubblyShell22 11-10-2012 07:58 AM

I so can't wait for this episode. One more hour, and I'll be able to watch it. So excited right now.

DonatelloRules 11-10-2012 09:17 AM

Purple Dragons are official.

Utromshredderhater 11-10-2012 09:22 AM

Dudes

Xever's a jerk

NinjaMan 11-10-2012 09:23 AM

Tons of action in this one, loving it. Xever is a huge jerk.

DonatelloRules 11-10-2012 09:29 AM

Hugging in tmnt? Me like.

NinjaMan 11-10-2012 09:32 AM

OO looks like Shredder should be getting action soon! And man the fight scenes were wicked in this! Loving how they are fleshing out Bradford and Xever.

TurtleTitan97 11-10-2012 09:33 AM

This was an awesome episode! I loved the final fight scene, and Xever was awesome! And it looks like we'll finally see Shredder in action soon!:tgrin: I can't wait!

pannoni1 11-10-2012 09:34 AM

The best episode of the series so far! With this, we encounter so many things: The debut of the Purple Dragons, the first appearance of Xever with Chris Brown with the Shredder giving him the hint of the Dogpound/Fishface mutations coming soon, and at the very end, Shredder's intention to fight with the Turtles himself, much more seriously compared to the end of "Rise of the Turtles". While this episode contained good fighting as always with the Foot/Purple Dragons/Xever battle that is the series' best so far, it also used the clever water tower technique that was so commonly used to defeat enemies in the OT. Speaking of OT, that Chinese Noodle man named Murakami is clearly a reference to Jimmy Murakami of MWS fame. The animation of Michelangelo used when he was imagining a tatoo looks a lot like the stock art used for OT stuff. That doesn't stop us from getting more advice from Splinter in the lair, along with some April involvement to make this an enjoying watch. I also enjoyed the animations of the street scenes and the moment where it would seem that the Turtles would be finished for a moment building up some suspense, even the point if you wondered at the end if Shredder had plans to mutate Chris and Xever.

Overall: 9/10

I had a feeling that character was a MWS easter egg. Man I'm really loving this show more and more. One thing I'm curious about, will Shredder want to mutant Xever and Bradford after he encounters the turtles? And is he going to be dealing with the Kraang?

tmnt transformer 11-10-2012 09:40 AM

Finally, The purple dragons return!!!!!!!!!!!!

Green Machine 11-10-2012 09:42 AM

Dude, they were beating up a blind guy! There's no enough!!! Man I love Raph!

I just died.

Xever's got crazy charisma for a baddie. Plus, it doesn't hurt he has a Capoeira-based fighting style.

I swear, the fight scenes in this cartoon are getting better and better. Definitely topping the 2003 show, but that's an unfair comparison since the 2003 toon was traditional animation. You obviously can pull off more stuff with today's tech.

But back to the fighting, I'm amazed. I loved Leo and Bradford's momentary 1-1 battle before the Foot and Xever interfered. And I'll say this... if this is just a taste of what they can pull off, imagine what will go down when the Shredder steps in. I'm waitin' for that one!

BTW, the tattoo scene made me smile with Mikey's "idea" of his dream tat. Pure nostalgia.

What are the chances of seeing Hun

Fixed that :D

How does that hint at the mutations coming soon though?

This episode was great, probably my favorite so far!

NiNi 11-10-2012 09:46 AM

Another awesome episode. The fight scenes were extremely cool in my opinion. Makes me even more excited to see the next episode. :D

tmnt transformer 11-10-2012 09:47 AM

I can't wait for the next episode! Shredder in action finally!

I doubt we will be seeing Hun return in this series.

Shreddhead 11-10-2012 09:50 AM

Mike's tattoo idea was so hilariously animated and I loved everyone's eyes popping out, this show has surpassed all of my expectations.

MrTMNT2012 11-10-2012 10:10 AM

AMAZING Episode! Finally a good Leonardo Episode since 2003's 'Tales of Leo'. Also I think it's a good time to say Jason Biggs is one of the best Leo's ever :)

The fight scenes were the best so far and the comedy once again was Top-notch.
I really liked the moral in this episode and I think it was the right development for Leo!
The interaction between the brothers were at their best in this Episode, with everyone pissing off Raphael being my favourite.

And the Ending....Badass 10/10

NinjaMan 11-10-2012 10:23 AM

Yeah Biggs is an awesome Leo.

Jephael 11-10-2012 10:50 AM

By far one of the best episodes yet! My favorite moment had to be the shot of classic 80s Mikey's face over Nick Mikey!

SS_Turtle 11-10-2012 11:00 AM

Great episode all around, Michelangelo was pretty funny and not dumbed down like the last few episodes. The last action scene was great as well.

gobo 11-10-2012 11:14 AM

This episode sucked. It left me with nothing to complain about. What nerve! :tgrumble:

So, we got references to
Spoiler:
both 'toons today: the OT design tattoo and the water-tower.
I'm pleasantly surprised. ^_^

Oh, and did this ep mark the first time "Xever" wasn't pronounced like "Zephyr"? O_o

FoxZerro 11-10-2012 11:27 AM

This episode did what I love more than anything, world building. We learned so much about characters that were Turtles and at the end of the day that is what is important for a show to have longevity. Actually having some character development for the villians will make dealing with them later on that much better and I Chris Bradford's intense focus on the fact that they were mutants in the beginning when talking to Shredder really sets the stage for why he will be willing to mutate himself in the pursuit of defeating them.

The animosity that exists between Xever and Bradford is spot-on and doesn't feel forced or manufactured at all. I love that they aren't best friends like Bebop and Rocksteady were. Its nice when villians are portrayed as actual villianous to the point where they are also distrustful and show animosity towards each other. Having it built in from the beginning instead of created during a team up as it has been done so many times in Cartoons from the 70's 80's and 90's. It makes me so happy that this is a children's show that doesn't treat children like idiots and will present characters in an intelligent manner.

Purple Dragons showing up in the 2k12 show was something I didn't think would happen and bringing them in and having them not be the threat they were in 2k3 was great. Not to mention the fact that they tied them in nicely to the universe by sort of making them Xever's faction in New York. With something like that at work it would be very easy for the show to do a sort of City at War storyline.

As the first storyline that focused on Leonardo, I think they hit it out of the park. I prefer my Leonardo as the opposite side of the same coin as Raphael. I have always thought that he and Raph are just steps away from each other in terms of anger and instead of embracing it like Raph, Leo tempers it through his training. Seeing this younger Leonardo actually understand and almost embrace the way that Raph was thinking really played up that whole aspect for me and in addition gave us great insight into his growth as the leader of the team.

Finally getting some more April time is always appreciated as this show is making me actually enjoy the character my making her smart and capable. Throw in the fact that Shredder is finally coming off the bench and going to join the fight and I am one very happy Turtles Fan who can not wait to see what they are going to present us with next week.

Why does the black guy have such a weird accent? It's worth than Jenko's in that 2003 Nobody episode.

Because he's not black? Does the fact that he used the word "idiota" not make that clear?

DarkLightDragon 11-10-2012 12:14 PM

Great episode today.

For some reason, even though this was the first Leo-centric episode, I thought it was both odd and refreshing that Space Heroes was never brought up in regards to Leo's decision to spare that guy. While him being a dork for the show is really fun to watch, I'm kind of glad they're reinforcing the notion that Leo can make his own decisions and be a good leader without him relying on what he saw Captain Ryan do.

He's Brazilian, or Afro-Brazilian to be exact. He's mixed-race Black and Latino.

Oops. I haven't actually seen the ep; just the short preview. I wait for Nick to put it on their website.

I guess I did a stoopid.

Fantastic episode! So much action!! Dudes, this is the best action cartoon on TV. The fighting animation is top-notch, better than any I've ever seen.

Anybody else catch Donnie's A-Team reference? "I love it when a (change in) plan(s) comes together."

Donatello19 11-10-2012 12:45 PM

Spoiler:
I wonder when Xever and Chris Bradford will mutate into Fishface and Dogpound

Maybe after Shredder encounters the Turtles and decides to have mutants of his own? But then the question, will he befriend the Kraang to get some Mutagen?

I agree 100%.

Raph's Girl 11-10-2012 12:50 PM

Pretty good ep!

I find it interesting that Donatello suspects they're Diamondback Terrapine's. It WOULD explain Mikey's freckles tho... Altho Don did say they were freshwater turtles. Diamondback Terrapine's are brackish water (they can survive in both fresh and salt water).

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ult_female.jpg

And it's good that April's not their only ally now. Pizza Gyoza's would probably be good but isn't that basically what pizza rolls are? *lol* It has been a while since I made gyoza's tho...

LeoNerdo 11-10-2012 01:37 PM

Fun action episode! Nice little nod to MWS if that's what Mr. Murakami's name was intended to be. The turtles (except for Leo) sure like to spin their weapons a whole lot don't they? :P

Donatello19 11-10-2012 02:01 PM

Wierd...in the commercial I saw before I the episode premiered, April called those things Pizza Potstickers, but in the episode itself she calls them gyozas or something like that.

Im glad they decided to call them by their Japanese name and not the silly name Americans have given em. Gyozas and Potstickers are the same thing.
