Spoiler:
feel free to critique+ no its not done just trying to put more quality in my work than quanity |
You've really got to work on your proportions. The legs are way too long/wide, for example.

Given your response I'd assume anything else I'd criticize would be considered 'stylized'.

I agree with Powder about the legs and I would centered the drawing a littlle more, but otherwise well done. The tail suggest your going for a Mirage inspiration. Perhaps a Lawson style? Anyway,I love the sais and the shell above all on the drawing.
I had almost forgotten about that strip we collaborated on a few months back. Hope that turned out well! |

Thanks for your critique, I didn't negate it. I just thought the style I was going for was prevalent, Ill try harder I guess next time. |

as for our strip i didnt like how it was turning out so If you want it I can redo but forget what you saw before they were ******. |

If your just messing around with that just think what you could churn out when you try real hard.All-star quality for sure! As for our little project,do if and when you feel like it work on it again. If not I just had fun enough writting a 4 page strip. :tgrin: |

also what was that dcu board? |

& for the record, I don't know what you're basing any of your assessments on, I kiss no ass. For example, when Kuhns Michelangelo issue came out I was very vocally against his art, & I've given Tom Waltz a lot of sh*t for his writing. & in each instance I gave legitimate critique without attitude. & even here, in the fan-works section, I have given praise to users like Toby Barett, Koschei, & others for their art. Quite simply, dear sir, "u mad". |

:tlol::lol::tlol: I did not choose to interpret your words as an attack, you do this a lot on here. Whether it be a simple question to just throwing your two cents in something just to say "duh" to another user. I did not insult your work, I never mentioned the arms in your drawings because all of your pictures are like that, that's how you draw, I get it. Anyone could clearly see that, in all honesty there has only been one picture that I have seen where things were almost proportionate with the turtles. http://www.omega-level.net/wp-conten...T-Drawing..png Obviously the "u mad" should be directed towards your response. I asked if anything else should be worked upon and your "dark, brooding and smartassness" had to come out. Have you not seen when a new user shows up someone has to intervene and say "oh that's just powder you'll get use to him"? Clearly you are not blind. I have seen it happen around 5-10 times by different users basically telling new users to ignore you. I don't feel like I am wrong. I just grow tired of your constant passive aggressive I KNOW IT ALL responses. Again if you are looking for an "arch-nemesis" it is not me, I am not your shredder. |
My point is, you felt offended and started attacking my character. My behavior has nothing to do with your 'artistic leeway', so I don't see the need to bring it into question. But by all means, continue to study me. I'm flattered. Ah, and please do feel free to put me on ignore if you find my posts so bothersome.
|
I like it, are you using the new cartoon as a model? The legs look like the new cartoon legs, it is not my style, if I even have a style lol.
Keep working. |
Consider yourself luck to get such detailed feedback!}
Most of the times that I solicit for help or constructive criticisms, everybody just ignores my poor thread. :tcry: :twink: ... Anyhoo, regarding your Raph. I like the pose but it's hard for me to really get a sense of its perspective because the file size is SO large. Maybe if you resize it something more manageable, I can get a better feel for it. |

Even though the legs are very long, I can't really say they are "too long" relative to mutant turtle anatomy. :tlol: I think I'd probably have a better feeling about the piece if the feet were visible in the picture. The legs just seem like they'll keep on going down forever. Did you plan to cut the feet off the bottom or did you just run out of room? That happens to me sometimes! I think the sais are very nicely done, however. |

It was honestly a quick doodle i did for a moments inbetween like 20 rounds (about 30 secs) Im trying to get better with quick sketches so I can fly through layouts... I just love drawing the turtles. |
As previously mentioned, the legs are a bit too exaggerated for my taste as well. I definitely get where you were going with it, but I may have liked the concept better if they weren't that extreme. That being said, I love the rest of it. The sais appear to be larger than normal as well. But unlike the legs they're not "too much" for my taste and make the sketch look all the more badass! The whole thing gives off a lot of emotion to me. I view this to be Raph in deep thought with a hint of sadness. Kind of reminds me of my first impression of IDW #16 Cover B. All in all, Great Job!

Yes, Jim Lawson did a pinup like that many years ago! I think this is it: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56...ps31dc48b0.jpg Quote:

i love lawsons work. thanks for the new background though.

Honestly the legs are way too big. Legs usually are about the same height as the rest of the body, and those legs extend way too far and even more since they aren't fully drawn. The thighs look too chunky where the are connected to the groin area.
The shell also feels a tad flat, you could use the outer scutes to make a more "rounded" feel, a sense of perspective. The shell pattern are also inconsistent, some more pattern practice can fix it and sketching before hand making sure the pattern of the scutes fit within the shell you have drawn. The tail looks like a part of the shell and for some reason over laps the leg that should be in front of the tail. The tail looks too short to be curving over the leg like that. Either the tail should seem longer or it would be better if it was pointing outwards. The flatness is also partial due to the lack of shading when you have shaded the rest of the body, but the overall sense of where the light is is fine although a bit dull by having it come from right behind. It would have been more visually interesting to have it from an angle rather then straight on him. The eyes and eyebrows are decent but the bandanna tails could use more work, making them illustrate wind and movement better. The sai lack debt as the shell and not liking how extreme pointy the prongs are, but it is a common thing to do. The shoulder and biceps could ise some defining to make them pop a bit more, the shading is a tad flat there showing no curves. Forearm and hand are nice. But. The elbow padding. not sure what is going on with his arm. it looks like the pad is going outwards on a very wrong direction when looking at raph's pose and how flat his hand lies down to the side. It's like the elbow have turned and are now pointing outwards. Anatomy studies and understanding of proportions is key no matter what you are drawing, especially if you want to be an professional. Sense of perspective, framing and dynamic is also important. It is a very static drawing, and lacks any omph! to make it interesting. comparing it to Lawson's you can see his Raph has a pose and dynamic to the image, drawing the attention. Yours sadly do not, Raph is too static and dull. Reading on in the thread, I saw you wanted the legs longer. This is something you have to work with then to make it look good. The TMNT 2007 turtles have long looking legs, they are slimmer which helps without actually overstep too much with the portions. Study legs and the anatomy of legs. Give the turtles the body leg ratio that are often done to draw leggy women, and make suer you have space to draw the whole figure on the paper so the feet can be drawn as well. |
