Karai "replacing" April?
 

April seems to be making few appearances in the show while Karai is being shown more. Is this Nick trying to find a character to relate to girls?

If they really wanted girls attention April and Karai should be cat fighting all the time. Then girls could gossip about the one they dislike.

April has been in both episodes that Karai has been in, so no.

Oh for God's sake. It's a new character. They want to use her.

Honestly not trying to start a war. I just think Nick is reaching to the female crowd. April's figure sold so poorly they aren't even packing her now.

They only have about 24 mins each episode, some charaters are going to get the shaft. I think we'll see more April centric episodes soon, definitely.

In fact, as unrealistic as it may seem for April to train into a competent martial artist in such a short amount of time, I have a feeling we will see some Karai vs. April in the future, too. They may not be equals but I think April has some spark in her :P Look at her already showing some moves to defend herself. Soon it will be offensive.

April's a pivotal character in every single incarnation of TMNT. If April's figure didn't sell well, then Nick shouldn't expect Karai's to sell well either. With 20 min. per episode, they don't have time to include all the things I'm sure they'd like to (such as April screen time). Being a writer for a cartoon means you have to know how to tell a beginning, middle, and end quickly.

Karai currently has an arch to go through and was essential to the plots going on, she had a function in the plots.

April does not has as an essential part to the plot currently, so it's a bit harder to incorporate her.

How-ever she will probably soon get her lamp-light to, and while April is a main cast member and is sure to be at least present in most episodes, Karai is not that, she is an antagonist and a secondary character. So well, she only appears when she is important and have some sort of function, but then she is also being used.

Silly thread considering season 1 was conceived a long time ago. This could be the case in later seasons but it's not right now.

You said that Karai's been appearing more, but April has been in every episode Karai was in.

This topic made me realize that a Karai vs April fight later down the line should be a must. April's got to become a full blown kunoichi at some point, right? Let her at Karai!

I am a woman and I kind of find this comment offensive and stupid.

Karai is a brand new character and they needed a little extra time with her in the last few episodes to get her set up. Unless Karai at some point finds out shes Miwa and decides to jump sides and fight with Splinter and the boys I never see her being as important as April.

I didn't mean it offensively. I was thinking back on the Team Edward and Team Jacob thing.

That's precisely why it's offensive; it reduces a gender down to narrow interests. It's like if Hasbro said, "Hey; our My Little Pony show has a lot of male fans, so let's entertain them with a lot of toilet humor and explosions!" Primarily we're people, not males and females, and we have brains.

What kind of thread is this? Karai has appeared in a grand total of 2 EPISODES so far. ONLY TWO EPISODES.

I just think Karai is getting a lot of air time. I'm excited to think of April and Karai having a rivalry. It would be a lot of fun.

I don't think Karai is replacing April at all. I think both characters have had screen time and that April will still be able to shine as well. Karai has only be in two episodes so far, and we don't know if she'll be in every episode after those two or not.

I would enjoy seeing April being a bit more on the "missions" so that we start seeing her interact with Karai.

I would be interesting if Karai one day came to April for either help or a warning...


I mean, if she one days needs to give the turtles a warning it might be pretty difficult to find them, but if she finds out that April is afflicted with them, she could end up going through April to get to them. That would be pretty neat.


Also the idea that you can't have two females on a show without one replacing the other is really really weird!

Kinda hope they DON'T have April fight Karai, unless Karai totally trashes her. I mean c'mon guys... the Turtles can barely keep up with her, let alone tag her, how the hell do you want April to be able to land a hand on her without making it seem that she's better than all 4 Turtles combined? Keep your power levels in check here people and look past the fact that 'oh they're both females so they have to fight'.

No way is Karai going to replace April. Just...no

So far Karai has been the much more interesting character of the two females. Michele Ivey even posted a question whether or not Karai is real or is really Miwa disguised as Karai who was Splinter's daughter who happened to fall into the temptation of the Shredder. Paired with Leonardo's temptation with Karai, it just means that a lot with Karai has been done in just two episodes. April is more of a "slow and steady" character since you expect her to appear in the majority of episodes. Seeing her high school was one place of development, and I'm sure we will until around the end of Season 2 when her graduation is supposed to occur, and then Season 3 onwards will be her internship/college work in which April is finally a grown woman and is mature with getting the outside scoop, and who knows if she will be a scientist, reporter, a shopkeeper, or a Ninja fighter. An April/Karai battle would certainly raise the tension since they have never fought before in any TMNT incarnation plus they both are good at exploring the topside world, meaning that both are apt to meet each other at some point.

I wish they (Karai/April) would go to the same school. I'm not sure what age they're going for with Karai, but Leo likes her to some degree so she must (in my opinion) be similar in age.

...then maybe Karai can start teaching April some "bad" ninjutsu, and use it on Donnie. ....then Splinter can be all "This ninjutsu is familiar...". Then April gets drunk with power and starts hanging out with Karai more and acting all weird around the turtles. Then Splinter can be all "Never use this ninjustu again!". April then gets even closer to Karai, Karai introduces her to Shredder, Shredder can be all "I can use her to my advantage", gets April to start doing crime for the promise from Shredder of reuniting her with her father and.....you get the idea.

I hope that happens, that sounds cool

I like April more than Karai XD so they better not replace or switch or whatever!!

and April is fine so far :3 the turtles go to her when they need personal help and she's also helps with figuring stuff out when it's too light for the boys to go outside. she's cool right now

and later she will be fighting XD I personally hate it when the new girl just suddenly knows how to fight, I'm glad they are taking it slow for her.

eh... Karai doesn't have to go to school. She was probably in Japan with Shredder till they flew to New York and she either hangs with the Foot and all and goes out on patrol at night. Stop trying to make her normal and boring. The ONLY reason Karai has to go to April's school is if she finds out April knows the Turtles and goes to her school undercover in an attempt to kidnap her and lure the Turtles. Other than that she has no reason to be a typical school girl.

That would make a cool two-part episode...

The only area in which Karai seems to have "replaced" April is in being the young human girl lusted after by a ninja turtle, but as has been said many times, it has been two episodes. Two episodes where Karai plays a central role, yes, creating the impression of her having a heavy involvement, but it's still just two episodes and April has featured in many more. Just wait, and I'm pretty sure we're going to have Leo and Don talk about their crushes. I also wonder if the other two Turtles will fall in love. I'd like to see Kala back, especially if she's as tough a fighter as she is in the IDW series.

As to April fighting Karai on equal terms, I agree that's unnecessary and basically stupid. They aren't interchangeable as female martial artists; Karai is the Catwoman to Leonardo's Batman, meaning both fight really well from the start. April is more of The Karate Kid; the fun of watching April is knowing that she's very vulnerable, which makes her struggling against superior opponents more thrilling, and ultimately, is probably going to make her eventually defeating some tough opponent feel so meaningful.

Seeing as Karai kinda flirts with Leo, at he's getting somewhere. Poor Donnie is just wasting his time with April.

I'd really like to see Karai thump April, as retribution for 2007 :P

Call it a script flop, the director being drunk or whatever, it never make sense that April landed a blow on Karai. Never in a million years.

Unlike April tho Karai seems to like Leo too by telling him he was cute.

Totally stupid. I would totally have bought into April wrecking a few Foot Ninjas, and I'd much rather see Karai fight one of the Turtles or Splinter anyways.

I guess they just had to submit to the tropes of "girls must fight other girls" and "the good guys always win".

And the cost of, oh I don't know, any possibility of us taking the Foot or Karai or even the movie itself seriously.

Karai is not replacing april, there will be plenty of episodes she wont be in at all probably. I am certain April will remain main human character to the end of the series while Karai might become main Foot character to keep Shredder special.

I also agree it would be really stupid for Karai to lose to April, best solution I think would be those two not to fight at all.

But if she does, Karai should win by a landslide and this is coming from a girl that loves April :3

I like her but I know her place isn't fighting unlike Karai, which is fine everyone has a role.

but since she IS learning how to fight, then it would be cool to see her fighting someone like the foot, some purple dragon (whatever works) :3

(If Karai vs April does happen, then I think April could at least get one hit in, doesn't matter how, that would be cool)
