The future for Baxter Stockman

Pff, we all know this gig right? It all starts when you incidently broke the copy machine at work, next thing you know, you are working for an evil over-lord whom is ready to kill you if he has no use for you.

That happens all the time right?

Seriously, I is it the universial rule that Baxter Stockman can never ever catch a break?

Particularly this one, it's really a classy case of some-thing small just evolving and becoming bigger and bigger.

It was;
copy-machine
Tried to get revenge on place who fired me
Trash can
Bigger revenge
Bigger trash can
A thousand tiny kill robots, that got destroyed and ended in own abduction.
Working for/Is slave to a evil over-lord.

... Sewer-bunnies.

What the heck is next?

The next episode is called "TCRI"
That's also the place where Stockman used to work! .. it's also the insignia on the canisters with ooze. So that probably means the Krang owns the TCRI.
So was Baxters one of the scientists working there, helping the Krang without even knowing it himself? or just a part of the cover?

wauw.. the dude sure got himself into a mess bigger than any-one should be able to handle..

CyberCubed 02-21-2013 11:50 AM

I hope he breaks out onto his own. They already had him in his robot armor so I don't see that happening again.

NinjaPug 02-21-2013 11:57 AM

Is TCRI on the ooze canisters in this version? I don't remember seeing it on them. It is interesting that actual humans worked ar TCRI.

As for Baxter, I just hope he doesn't mutate into a fly. I hope he stays human.

I gotta admit there's a nasty sadistic side inside of me that wants to see how far they can abuse this character.

I mean seriously, this started in petty revenge plot. he was not even really evil or any-thing, he had just been screwed over and wanted satisfaction for that.

But the universal law apparently is that.
"If your name is Baxter Stockman, you aint going to catch a break, ever."

Even then, the 2k3 show he kind of had it coming, that way he kept spitting evil over-lords in the face.
I recently re-watched that show, and in his initial debut Stockman just had the most amazing line ever. As shredder said to him. "I don't tolerate failures." immediately Stockman responded. "Well, then you would have made a lousy scientist!" .... wauw.. I felt like standing up to salute him right there, just.. wauw..

This new Stockman how-ever, does not have the same audacity at all, he at least has the decency to be scared, and he was just an ordinary worker, presumably happy about his job.. but you know, universal law.

I am so fascinated with the abuse of Doctor Stockman, just.. fascinated.
And yeah.. I kind of think he is going to mutate.. it's presumable sort of hard selling action figures based on his current design.

Pterobat 02-21-2013 01:12 PM

Actually, I don't think they have to do much more with Nicktoons Baxter. I mean, they *can*, but I can easily see him continuing in the current role of a frightened but useful henchman who makes gizmos for Shredder and nobody blinking an eye.

I like Baxter Stockman rather a lot, but being a fly isn't important to his character or to his appeal. Like you said, the cartoon versions of Baxter just have terrible lives, and being a fly is just one way to do that.

If they are going to do something more with Nicktoons Baxter, I'd like for it to be something more original, something previous animated Stockmen haven't had done to them yet.

There's already one Baxter action figure in the can, and one Lego set--side characters in toylines usually don't get much more, so I can't see toy-selling being the justification for the first mutated Baxter since the 80s-90s.

Here's a thing though.. I can see you have eighties Stockman as Avatar so you might want to consider this one.

80's Stockmans final line, I think actually rings much stronger than any-one intended it to be.

Before Baxter falls into the dimensionally thingy, the turtles are asking him.
"why are you even doing this Stockman?"

And Stockman responds. "I forgot." .... wauw, two words, and yet so strong.

Do you think that maybe, they are building this Stockman up to a similar situation and a similar climax?
The thing about him in this show is that trouble just escalates around him, without him doing much. It litterately was copy machine and trash can, some-how turning into alien robots and evil over lord.

It all just started.. with a trash can! but, in the great scheme of things, all-ready now, the trash-can seems rather un-important doesn't it? and if Stockman moves even further into trouble, it just becomes more and more un-important, it would only make sense if he actually forgot about it because he is so caught up in every-thing else.
And then some-one will ask the question. "why?" and he has to answer. "I don't know, and if I ever did, I forgot."

And.. I would really like that, I would like for it to turn that direction.
Moment of self-realisation.

Again, I have trouble seeing this Stockman as evil in any way.
No he is not a hero, and he is not self-sacrifising or caring or any-thing, but he is not really that evil.
I could also see him turning from Shredder and act as his own agent, Stockman is not loyal to Shredder, he is not there of own free will, he is not even gaining any-thing (other than being kept alive.) He never wanted to be there, he is there by force not choice, so he has no loyalty.

Also.. you know what could be awesome..
An episode where Stockman and Donatello is captured in some sort of high tech basement together, and has to work together to get out. Am I the only one wanting to see that?

chrisdude 02-21-2013 01:47 PM

The canister's don't have any text on them in the Nick series.

But we know Baxter worked for TCRI, and now works for Shredder. And Baxter has used Kraang technology, catching Shredder's interest. So if the Kraang DO run TCRI, I hope this is the episode where Shredder and the Kraang finally meet.

meta ray mek 02-21-2013 02:17 PM

Yeah, there's... really not much more they can do with Baxter.

I guess if they wanted to go in a completely different direction, they could theoretically have this Baxter "wake up" and experiences a moment where he realizes just how far in over his head he really is. Whether or not he actually tries to change is another story.

Or maybe they'll just keep him in that side character role and not really develop him more beyond what we've been shown already. I mean, Shredder's gotta have a tech person and all that. =V

NinjaMan 02-21-2013 02:24 PM

The writers said we are getting a memorable mutant this season from the old show. My money is on fly Baxter

Donatello19 02-21-2013 03:07 PM

Since Playmates has already made a figure of him in his current state, I doubt he will mutate.

I don't see why making a figure of him in a robot armor body would prevent them from making another figure of him later.

Are there still any figures of characters that we haven't seen in the show? I don't follow the toy shows or whatever, but there will surely be season 2 and 3 characters that don't have toys yet.

I do have to admit, seeing Baxter have a moment of realization, like "How did I get in this mess" somewhere down the line would be an interesting plot twist. Honestly Stockman has never interested me, as a character, except for the 2k3 version and (quite possibly) this version.

Karai.

Pterobat 02-21-2013 08:07 PM

Shredded, Baxter Stockman has never in any form been just an innocent victim. Sure, he gets messed up with in big ways, but he still has an evil side.

I find it hard even to get broken up over "Revenge of the Fly", when all of that junk was his own damn fault. Even stuff like "Insane in the Membrane" doesn't absolve Stockman of all the evil he's done.

Therefore, I've got no interest in the Nick show trying some kind of do-over that wrings the pathos out of Baxter's situation, as a fly or not. It'd be a lie to treat him as innocent even at this point, when Nick Baxter attacked his old office and tried to rob things.

Besides, the Nick series is too comedic to go in that direction anyway. You want a serious exploration of how terrible Baxter Stockman's life can get, the
4Kids version was great at that.

Justin 02-21-2013 08:11 PM

Baxter Stockman has always been a character who's fascinated me, in just how a man will stoop so low and get very canned along the way.

CyberCubed 02-21-2013 08:16 PM

Baxter is at his best when he shows that he's smarter than everyone else, especially Shredder.

No matter how low Baxter can go he can always bounce back.

Because if he was going to mutate, they would just make a figure of his mutated form, not his human AND mutated form, like how they didn't make Chris Bradford and Xever figures. I could be wrong, but it's my prediction.

TheCanadiandrome 02-21-2013 08:43 PM

Hopefully this Baxter fairs better than previous versions

They made him in a huge robot body. You'd have a point if they just made a human figure in his pink sweatshirt.

I hope so too....poor dude...this Baxter Stockman seems less of a sass pants than the 2003 version XD....so maybe Shedder won't do anything to him.

Avatar Yuffie 02-21-2013 10:56 PM

Yeah, I'm not sure which version of Baxter's fate is worse: a fly lost in limbo forever or a brain thingie that lasted for centuries. Mirage had him fridged.

Here's for hoping the recent Baxter had a much better run.

Oh he created his own mess, don't get me wrong.

But in this show in particularly, it seems more like petty revenge than any-thing else.

And boy.. lets not get started on OT Stockman, I mean honestly.
He was just dooped by the Shredder on a vulnerable moment, the moment after his invention has been rejected by the entire world.
After that he got beaten up and threatened by turtles whom stoles his van with all his techno things in it
And then was put in a mental asylum because his stories were so out-landish.

I think, the only real oppertunity he had to sort out of his mess, would be to not go with the shredder out of the asylum, to say "that's enough" and stay behind.
How-ever, this Stockman was so caught up in revenge schemes at this point, that he was on a down-wards spial, every-thing just turning his own situation uglier, and I also think there are several proofs that he was driven more and more mentally insane.

Then there is 2k3 show.. yeah, he's a psykopath. I'm not going to defend that one. He straight up tried to kill april in his first episode, and later didn't seem to have any trouble killing more by himself.
"Insane in the Membrame." went a good way to explain why Stockman is the way he is. "Reach for the sky." is a sentence explaining his refusal to back down.. though.. his refusal to back down is what got him in such a mess the first time around.

Nick Stockman how-ever, he seems to be a lot like TOS stockman, it is his own fault he is in the situation he is in.
He shouldn't have tried to get revenge on the place whom fired him in the first place, that was a dumb thing to do, he could have gone away.
But perhaps he was just really angry and felt powerless.
It ended with the trash can, and by all means he should have gone away after that.
But he was angry, every-body humiliated him and no-one took him seriously, now didn't seem to be the time to back down, so he created the mousers.
And by the end of the mousers episode is the point where the Stockman seized to have any choice. Point of no return mi-amigo.

Classic example of one little thing, leading to some-thing a little bigger, you say A, then it's easier to say B, and suddenly we are at "E" for evil over-lord.

I think that's a common trait among all the Stockmans, they are creators of their own mess, a mess that just grows and grows until there is no way out of it, and they are just stuck.
Which is kind of part of the tragedy here.

I think all Stockmans ends up stooping very low, and can stoop very low. But what is fascinating is that they wouldn't have upon initial introduction, they are all eventually driven to a place where they end up feeling it's all-right to stoop so low.
They are just... so pushed around, yet know they are smarter than the people around them, and then get angry about being so powerless.

I mean. if there is some-thing I think this new Stockman want, it is to be taken seriously.. obviously Shredder isn't taken him seriously, so erh, what's going to happen with that?

And that's a thing, he doesn't want to take over the world, he just wants to be taken seriously by his peers..

So? FF was still 100 years. It didn't contradict anything.

Spitfire 02-22-2013 02:31 PM

It kind of does because it shows Baxter wearing a newer sleeker outfit from the suit he had with Bishop. If he did work with Bishop again I don't know why he'd go back to using an old clunky model of his suit when he has a better one.

Pterobat 02-22-2013 09:49 PM

Heh, 4Kids Baxter goes through bodies like a laundromat goes through socks--I'd still consider "Head of State" canonical, for my own peace of mind, even though some parts of it don't add up--like the concern Bishop has for Stockman in the flashback, when he'd been treating him callously in the present day.

Also, "Insane in the Membrane" doesn't show us how Stockman became what he is. We just know he used to be just a kid, like anybody else, but at some point he went down a bad road. It was a sad, wonderful episode, but it doesn't mean his activities or his malevolence can be ignored.

When it comes to OT Baxter, I like him too, and I feel sorry for him too, but at some point, he just turned into a villain. Sure, he's scared of the Shredder and constantly picked on by him, but when he gets the chance to do an evil deed himself, he revels in it.

Now, it annoys me that we don't know exactly how Baxter turned evil, but he certainly is. Baxterfly is even worse because he's much more active as a villain, and kinda deserves what happens to him.

Nick Baxter is also forced into working with the Shredder, but he's already not innocent. And as in other versions, he planned to use his Mousers to commit robberies. He reminds me a lot of OT Baxter, actually.

What all three characters have in common is pride: it gets them into trouble constantly. Parts of their life do definitely suck, but they can still be judged for what they do.

who knows? allot could've happened from that point, til the point reached in FF, so really, it didn't contradict nothing

pannoni1 02-24-2013 07:31 PM

Cyborg Baxter looks to be the future based on his upcoming Playmates figure. That said, he will feel more determined and self-confident to help Shredder. So far, Shredder hasn't been quite as harsh with Baxter as he was in OT/4kids, so there is still a lot to prove with this incarnation. Baxter has helped Fishface transform from a weak fish to a capable fighter, and hasn't yet encountered the Kraang.

AnarkyLantern 02-27-2013 08:30 PM

What concerns me is that the Kraang have superior tech compared with what Baxter makes on his own. He's obviously able to repurpose it and all but what's to stop the Kraang from overriding whatever Kraang-derived tech shredder uses?

Traag is not even a mutant. He's an alien just like Kraang.

Xav 02-28-2013 03:37 AM

I really hope the "memorable mutant" is Mona Lisa.

On-topic, He'll become a fly in season 2, then a cyborg, and lastly die.

A fly before cyborg? Will he be a cyborg fly? Or a cy-fly? I'd say cyborg then fly if fly at all. I'm thinking he won't be mutated.
