Who is your favorite Raphael voice actor of all time?
We now come to Raphael, in many ways the original "signature" Turtle by the creators thanks to the red headband, being the only Turtle to wear the same colored bandana in all universes. He is also the most changable character based on incarnation, from smart aleck, troublemaker, witty comic relief provider, to conscience. Its fitting that there have been more voice actors of Raphael than any other Turtle (or any other character for that matter), providing a wide range of opinions possible about the definite Raph voice for the definitive character, with a grand total of 13 Raphael voice actors in franchise history. Once again, I'll leave out the Turtles' Forever Raph due to the insignificant amount of dialogue available. Please vote and discuss!

I really enjoy Sean's take on Raph
Sure Sean Astin is great as Raph, but Samwise is his best role from anything. I'll have to go with Josh Pais. He was the Raph I grew up with from the film.

I could say my favorite versions so far are Josh Pais,Rob Paulsen,Frank Frankson and Sean Astin. |
Frank takes it, as far as I'm concerned. I loved Nolan North and Josh Pais, too, but Frank brings an almost monstrous quality to Raph, which is perfectly suited with his personality. I kinda think 4kids nailed all four TMNT really.
But the NICK turtles are pretty good too. Sean Astin is doing a great job. But, you asked for favorite. |
Rob Paulsen, no contest. He's the reason Raph was my favorite as a kid.
I do really enjoy Nick's Raph voice and the movies. Anyone else think 4kids Raph sounds nearly identical to Movie III Raph? |
Sean Astin is my favorite.
Rob Paulsen is Raphel and a big reason why I like the character. That being said its hard having him voice the wrong turtle because it gives us two Raphs.
Nolan North nailed it really good in the 07 Movie. Josh Pais did start the trend for the Brooklyn accent but I'm going with Nolan here. I'm still getting used to Rob Paulsen voicing Don in the Nick toon.
First movie raph is my favorite. As much as I love Nick TMNT my opinion on Nick Raph remains lukewarm, not just in voice but in character. It really pains me to even say that becuase Raph has traditionally been my favorite. I am hopeful that they continue to flesh him out and maybe I'll change my opinion.
Alternatively I think Nick Don and Mikey are probably the BEST versions ever. Leo is also very strong. RP raph is also fantastic but I think i'm happy enough with his take on Don that I don't even think of him as raph anymore :) |
Gotta go with Rob. I was listening to his Talkin' Toons podcast last night and he explained how he's gotta change pitches when he does Raph and Don, how you've got to get so in character and how those subtle little pitch changes really make or break a character. Although I've got to say I do enjoy Josh Pais, who voiced Raph in the first movie. He made me comfortable with the accent :D
gotta go with josh pais, followed by rob in a VEEEEERRRRY close second. movie 1 raph is to me the signature voice of a more "serious" character. rob is rob, though! he's awesome no matter what and is perfect for the cartooniest of the toons.
Rob Paulsen. The OT voice actors win hands down as my favorite TMNT voice actors as the OT was my introduction to the characters. The Movie 1 Voice actors would be a close second.
Matt Hill.
Nah, I'm just jokin'. It's Rob Paulsen. |
I gotta go with TMNT 2007. That's the voice that comes to mind when I think of Raphael. Or maybe it's just his quotes. Definitely my favorite Raphael, overall.
I know some fans get adamant about the turtles not being crime fighters, but I love that this Raphael can't stand to sit at home, or work a normal job, knowing that he's capable of helping people. And it's not even an anger thing.</tangent> |
I saw the first name on the poll and I didn't even bother to consider the other options.
Frank frankson! He fit the darker theme of the show amazingly well:)
Even though the first time I heard Raph speak was from Paulsen, I gotta go with Josh Pais. Sean is doing a really good job too. I like Nolan North as well though.
Josh Pais, Matt Hill, Rob Paulsen, I guess? This one is particularly hard to vote on, so I've not voted.
Frank Frankson, I loved the grit he put into Raph's tone. Paulsen would have been my second choice, he was def the voice highlight of the OT for me even though Raph isn't my fav.
I would like to point out that an admin at behindthevoiceactors.com said that Hal Rayle told them he never voiced Raph.

so why in the site of imdb his name there?
in this site they chacke things before they write them it's obvious http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0131613/...=tt_cl_sm#cast |
It's a draw between the Next Mutation & 2K3 Raph. Both are motorcycle rebels!
No contest, it's Rob Paulsen!!!
Josh Pais Is my favorite of the voice actors so far.
Went with Rob Paulsen
Gotta be Paulsen he's the only one I can distinctly hear in my head when thinking about Raph talking. He sounded his best when yelling 'Go green machine!' imo.
For the longest time it was Josh Pais, but man, Sean Astin has completely won me over. He's hands-down my favorite Raph now.
Only Raph I like are OT and Nick Toon. The other Raphs sounds like they're shouting most of the time, so I didn't enjoy them much.
So in this case... I have HUGE respect for Rob Paulsen OT version but I gotta go with Nick's Raph. I like his rendition the most. |
This was a hard choice for me as I actually really like a lot of Raph's voices, but it came down to Rob Paulson and Sean Astin as I tend to prefer him without a Brooklyn accent. Really I could have voted for either, so I went with Sean Astin simply because he had fewer votes.
Its a toss up between Josh Pais and Frank Frankson for me. Nolan North gets honorable mention as well.
#1 for me is Josh Pais. " ohhhhh, so that's the plan from our greeeat leader huh, just sit here on our butts." :tcool:
Gotta go with the legendary Rob Paulsen, his on-the-spot tone of voice when making witty remarks and being able to seamlessly transition from being light-hearted sarcastic to fighting angry/peeved (without sounding corny; his anger was rare compared to the other cartoons, but it still happened) showcases his talent. His vocal talent could keep up with the broader spectrum personality that Raphael was depicted in.
Most of the other voice actors of Raphael only really excelled at being short-tempered/angry, and it isn't too impressive. I'm not saying the others are horrible, but the character depictions of those cartoons/movies of Raphael were more restricted and couldn't give them a chance to display their range. |
Josh Pais gave such an amazing performance as Raph, had to go with him. Looking back, I've always been bummed that he only got one movie, but the older I get the more I think it's better that he stayed away from those sequels :P
I love Astin though, he nails all of his lines and comes off as a believable teenager. Quote:

Josh Pais... Rob and Frank coming in close behind. :tsmile:
Sean is doing a GREAT job though. |
