Is this illegal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=16474

I remember Peter Laird being very upset when all the Vol. 1 issues were put on a cd and being sold by someone on eBay, and that it was illegal. Wouldn't this be illegal as well?

Peanut 06-10-2003 10:37 PM

I've seen things like this before for a ton of shows. I don't know if it's illegal but i'm pretty sure it is.

tormentedvagrant 06-10-2003 10:40 PM

would something like that be ok if it were being distributed for free, ie: I downloaded an ep. is that uncool twards Big L? (Larid)

Peanut 06-10-2003 10:49 PM

I guess it all depends. I'd say he's a bit more laid back on people dl'ing the old toon because everyone wants it but there's no where to get it. The new toon is a different story of course. The reason this would be illegal is because he's selling it.

JameO 06-11-2003 05:52 AM

I think it may be illegal. Kind of like downloading music and putting it on disk and selling it. You can burn but once you sell it, it becomes illegal. Although people do it all the time.

100% Illeagal.

1) It's against EBAY Policey.
2) They don't have permission from Wolfe

If you were to contact Ebay with the auction number, I garauntee it will be removed within the day.

Justice must be served :!: :tread:

Supermik 06-11-2003 08:38 AM

illegal at 100%

caspiantiger 06-11-2003 09:14 AM

compleatly leagal!!

The show hasnt aired for more than 5 years, so i dont think it is illeagal. you cant buy the movies anymore.

RomStom 06-11-2003 11:13 AM

Even if the show hasn't been aired for 50 years it is still illegal.

A guy advertised this on the official site a while ago, i wouldnt be surprised if it was the same guy.

Reznorite420 06-11-2003 12:29 PM

Even downloading the eps is illegal, so he's got a double-whammy on him.

BTW, I wouldn't fall for that auction; nothing but a scam to earn a quick buck. I mean, it's on EBAY for crying out loud! That in itself should mean it's a quack.

Deathknight 06-11-2003 03:00 PM

People sell stuff like that on ebay all the time. It's against ebay's policies but they still get away with it. People sell the TMNT cartoon cd sets that they downloaded from TMNT-files and they get away with it easily. It is definitely illegal to do something like that. However, I think the copyright law should be modified a little. Selling copies for profit should be illegal but just downloading stuff that is long out of print shouldn't be.

gobo 06-11-2003 04:15 PM

It's illegal to sell copyrighted works. It's even illegal to offer them for free, but highly unlikely that a rights-holder will complain about it unless it interrupts their income. As soon as Artisan/FHE releases their DVDs, this will likely be outlawed. What eBay pirate will want to sell a collection excluding the first 5 eps?

Ghidorah2000 06-12-2003 10:16 AM

You'd be surprised how many things they sell on Ebay that are booties. It's not like I own any though.....

I am going to have to search you! ILLEGAL ILLEGAL ILLEGAL! Yeah if Artisan comes out with the DVD's everyone is going to buy it and hopefully no one would buy those cd's from people on Ebay.

TheShredder 06-12-2003 06:53 PM

Yeah it's Illegal but it's just how badly do you want the old toon!?

I didn't necessarily say I had booties of Ninja Turtles episodes I got from Ebay. I mean I could mean a totally different genre and Pop Culture Icon. :tangel:

ironhelix 06-14-2003 11:12 PM

As long as the original creators are not receiving any profit, which is what this auction is doing, then it is illegal. Different story if it was all original though. Like if all of the episodes were released on video and he was selling the originals, then it isn't any different than a kid selling his comic book collection at a garage sale.
