Directions to avoid in the future
Like most people, i am digging the new TMNT Series on nick. But what would be the WORST possible direction it could take. What should they NOT do. it could be anything. A plot twist, a character, etc. For Me the worst decision would be to bring Venus De Milo back.

uhh.....let me think..........
I guess killing off any of the turtles would be the worse thing for me XD |

Since that's highly unlikely to happen, though, I think not completing story/character arcs would be a bad idea. I know it's what put me off of Fast Forward- I was gearing up to enjoy the rest of the Ninja Tribunal arc and the execs were like "NOPE- MOVING ON", and I was left unsatisfied. So Nick should avoid that, if it can be helped. |

I'd honestly be pretty put off if the romance they're already hinting at so much becomes an even bigger plot point. I know Karai is upcoming in the next episode or so, and despite how much I usually like her, I find myself dreading it because I know I'm going to have watch blatant weirdness from Leo (and maybe Raph now at this point too) from now on. The same whenever April is in an episode. I'm going to be super pissed if they bring in another girl (perhaps Angel) and have her serve as only another love interest for a turtle.
I also hope they don't start milking the bad guys. I like the Shredder, but after awhile I just want the dude to go down and not come back. It's cool the first and second time, but third time's the charm, don't you think? It would also be fantastic if they didn't bring in awesome character development arcs (2k3 Good Genes) and then...completely forget about them after. I'm still bitter that Leo got half a season to act like a mopey, brooding prick after losing a fight with Karai but while Don gets zip in regards to his mental health after being transformed into a monster and trying to kill his own family. |
Aside from the obvious, I just hope they don't rely on too many mutant of the week themed episodes.
Already we're seeing signs of that, but it might get really repetitive in the future if each episode is another ep about some mutant. |

As for Karai....I'm sure she won't be a love interest..anymore, since she might be Miwa and all....(but who knows) :) but ya know..other than this and no killing off a turtle XD I'm pretty good!! |
The amount of focus April gets is enough. Any more and it would be dumb. That's how they can go wrong going forward.
|
Do not forget to include Ninjara.

Gotta agree on the romance. I honestly don't mind what's there now, but I wouldn't want to see a bigger focus on it. Romance works great in some things, but TMNT was never really one of those things that made me go, "You know what this needs? More romance!"
Aside from that, the only thing that comes to mind for me personally is introducing an official "5th member" of the team. By that I mean someone who sticks around long term (like Carter or Venus, for example), not characters that team up with them on occasion (like Leatherhead or Casey). I love random team ups, just not ones that change up the chemistry of the 4 brothers for a dozen episodes in a row. |

I agree with the above poster. April gets the right amount of screen time. As always, her character was a good catalyst to get the Turtles involved in the world above ground. |
Hmm. This is harder than I thought. A musical episode. Don't get me wrong. I :tlove: musicals, but a Nick TMNT musical? Mikey's probably gonna be the only one singing. :P And it sounds too silly.

The Turtles can't really die.. So I say no death to their Friends and Allies(Leatherhead, April, possibly Karai)...That is all I ask.
|
I'd like an Allie killed, not like April or Leatherhead. But maybe like a new one just for some character building, even the OT did it in season 2.

Quick note before I start typing away, this is not so much a 'what I wouldn't like to see them do' but rather a 'direction they have already taken that I'd like to see changed' kind of deal. So if this should actually be posted somewhere else... ehm, sorry? (: Something that I would like the writers to stop doing is the whole mutant of the week thing. I know everyone gets excited to see new mutants and all (I also presume it helps in the toys sale department), but enough is enough. It really wouldn't bother me as much if, at the end of the ep, they would at least kill them off or deal with them in some way that it would prevent them from ever coming back. I'm not saying that they should do that with every mutant; just with the ones that are redundant (e.g. the cockroach from the last ep). Btw, I'm probably saying this because I'm kind on PL wagon on the whole 'overusing the mutagen' theme. I just feel it kind of takes away from the turtles' uniqueness. But well, I ain't gonna complain about that. The show seems to revolve around it and with so many fans that have different views of the franchise out there, I understand that you can't please everyone with everything you do. Besides it's not that big of a deal. Another thing that I believe the writers did not quite get was, that when people suggested that it was odd that there was never no one around while the turtles were out in the streets, it didn't mean to just add people to the already planned out scenes. It's like the turtles don't even mind being seen anymore. It was already a bit too much to have them fighting in the middle of the street without anyone seeing them (this was kind of touched upon on the pulverizer and turtle temper eps), but now they are driving around town in patrol boogies, in plain sight, and no one seems to give a damn. So if they could increase the 'ninja' aspect of the series at least a little bit, that'd be nice. Besides, by the way they draw attention to themselves, I'm surprised the foot ninja haven't found the lair by now. I'm also not a fan of the whole shipping business nick's been running. Heck, I'm all in for platonic relationships, we've seen plenty of those in the past; but I think they are going a little too far. That being said, so far it's not bothered me, but I would definitely not like them to delve deeper into it any time soon. |
I want the Mutant of the Week thing to stop right the shell now. Especially since it takes so long to get new episodes out, and they're doing a bad job actually releasing the toys those episodes are supposed to sell by making Ghostbuster Turtles instead, this show should just tighten its focus to the three-way fight between the Turtles, the Foot Clan, and the Kraang.
In continuation of the above, some Fred Wolf fans may disagree, but I don't want to see the Foot Clan and the Kraang in a permanent, if comedically awkward, alliance. The aforementioned three-way makes it more interesting. I have a more liberal attitude toward romance than some here, but please keep the romantic drama to a minimum. I don't want a whole episode focused entirely on the buildup to Donatello kissing April, but if instead, they just establish some action conflict that brings them together, they kiss quickly, and then proceed to beat up a bunch of mooks, that would be fine. |
The abundance of mutants is starting to get tiring, even the original cartoon did not throw new mutants into the show every week.
If they actually brought back some fan favorites of the past like Slash, Rahzar/Tokka, Mondo Gecko, or Groundchuck/Dirtbag I'd be OK with it, but the new mutants they're creating are dull and have no character. |
Starting to get tiring?
Frankly, it has burned me out in terms of enthusiasm. It hasn't made me hate the show; not even those episodes, but it's made me cease looking forward to it the way I was doing obsessively during the time up to its premiere. There's few things I abhor like the tired-out "new cartoons are just stupid and full of fart jokes" line, but I really would like to know what the average Nicktoon is like these days, and if those standards makes Nick think kids are too stupid to follow a story arc. I grant that some shows don't try to have as solid of an arc, and there's something to be said for that sort of show, since it's easy to pick up. It's probably one of the reasons the 2003 show will never reach the clout of the 1987 show in the popular consensus, even if it's better when you actually examine them in detail. The big difference here, though, is often they give us a cliffhanger, and not only do they just abandon it in the next few episodes they release; they don't even rerun the episodes in the correct order. They tease you and then let you down. |

Well... the writers talked about that at their Turtle panel last may in London.
What they said was that they had intended, and written the first part of the series as. "Status quoe." "A few episodes in this status quoe." "An episode that changes the status qoue" "A few episodes happening within this status quoe." "An episode that changes the status quo." You get the idea! Only problem here seems to be.. that episodes between episodes that changes the status quoe.. are the kind of episodes we like to call. "Filler." The good news are that the writers also said. "But we found out that doesn't really work for us in the long run." So my guess is that we are still some-where in their early stories before they found out it wasn't a format that worked for them. One of the things that really stands strong in this show is the over-all story arching. There is a very slow build-up, things are getting introduced in a steady pace, the threats grows bigger also in a steady pace. We learn to know the characters in different situations, what happened in the last episode usually comes up in the next one. The show is really exploring this univers and its own plot devices like, the Ooze. The show is going out if its way to explore both effects and after consequences of the ooze. What an effect it can have on people. What I would hate the very most, if the show did that.. would be if it didn't go all out, and delivered on all of the build up it has given us. If it didn't have Splinter and Shredder confront, if it didn't have the reveal that Karai is Miwa play a big consquence and dwell into the complications of that, if it didn't take some more time to dwell on other characters, what does it actually mean for Bradford that he is now a mutant? If it didn't bring the Baxter Stockman story to its next level, he is not just going to be a squirming mechanic for the Shredder from now on is he? He is going to do some-thing on his own again isn't he? There's is so much stuff, so much potential in all of these set-up, so many promises that the show will go all out and explore the hell out of all of these set-ups. And if the show suddenly lost complete track as in.. "Oh now they are in space for an entire season. Forget all about all that other stuff we talked about!" That would be the biggest slap in the face to me. I quite honestly wouldn't be nearly as annoyed if they killed a turtle, cause then I would assume the show would actually deal with that to, and deal with the lose of a brother. It wouldn't happen, and I don't wish for it to happen. Just saying, it wouldn't make me as angry, as if it didn't explore all of these plot points it has been putting out. I also realised just now.. the beginning of the show is thus far the strongest part, all of the constant set-up and promise of bigger things, really helped building the anticipation. Now when we have that status quoe all sat up... it has a bit of trouble not dropping the ball. Unfortunately "TCRI" didn't feel as a as great episode that it should have been. It feels like it was meant to be one of the big centre pieces of the entire season, and it just didn't pan out that way, it just wasn't as good as it should have been. And what was meant to be a nice relaxing breather after the big centre peace, meaning "Cockroach." ended up feeling like a "Yes, get on with it!" episode, instead of the breather it was supposed to be :ohwell: Though I kind of bet as we will be nearing the season finale, suddenly things are going to speed up, a lot. One big question remains for me though, whom is the finaly going to be about? The Krang taking over the world or Shredder confronting Splinter???? I actually sort of think they are going to deal with the Krang first, and wait with all Shredder stuff, and future reveals to the second season. That's why he has been pushed so far back lately.. I think.. |

Though he is not dead, that scene at the end of TCRI very much represented loss. "We lost Leatherhead, what do we do now?". Of course, this way, they can bring him back at some point while still using his loss as a motivational driving force. Combine that with April's father and well.. The Turtles have plenty of personal reasons to want to annihilate the Kraang.. |

I thought the Kraang that were killed by Leatherhead were the same Kraang that were present at a meeting in the mutation lab who were also the Kraang that escaped; it sucks that the Kraang all look exactly like the Kraang.

I can't think of any really bad ones, but I have a god one. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: In Space. The theme song would just replace turtle power with in space.

Like others have said, they need to complete story archs. And stay away from the mutant of the week formula that seems to be the default with filler episodes. If someone's gonna get mutated, I wanna see them more than once or twice. And maybe some more human adversaries. I know we just got Karai, but I find her so much less interesting than Brad was. Now Brad's some big ugly dog thing with no resemblance to his former martial arts background. Soooo ya, throw unnecessary mutations in there too.
