Will Arnett Joins Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Not sure if someone already post this already.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/ar...-ninja-turtles
"Arrested Development" and "Up All Night" star Will Arnett has signed on to join the cast of the upcoming live-action/CG hybrid Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

Arnett's role is currently being kept a secret, but he joins Megan Fox in the role of April O'Neil, Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo and Noel Fisher as Michelangelo.

This is the second big upcoming comic book-inspired role for Arnett. He's also set to voice Batman in The LEGO Movie.

To be directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film features a screenplay by Josh Appelbaum, Andrew Nemec, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and John Fusco, based on the characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is targeting a June 6, 2014 release.

Wow, this is the first good thing I've heard about the movie in a loooong time. I love Arnett, Arrested Development is one of my all time favorite tv shows.

When I clicked on this thread I was expecting it to be about the Nick show (I know, i didn't look at the category) because the voice actor for April on the Nick toon played Ann, a recurring character on Arrested development. With the filming of a new season of Arrested underway, I figured she may have turned him onto the Turtles.

Here's the original Hollywood Reporter article:

Quote:

Will Arnett has joined Megan Fox as one of the leads in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, being made by Paramount and Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production banner.

Jonathan Liebesman is directing the live-action/CG hybrid take on the classic 1980s characters that debuted in an indie comic before going on to become a massively popular cartoon and merchandising line.

Fox is playing the turtles’ friend April O’Neil. Inhabiting the mo-cap shells are up-and-comers Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard and Noel Fisher.

Arnett’s role is being kept secret, though still uncast from the Ninja Turtles mythology are Splinter, the turtles' sensei rat, and the villainous and masked Shredder. Arnett is not playing the turtles' human friend Casey, another role that has yet to be cast.

Producing the movie are Bay and his Platinum Dune partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, along with Jason Reed, Galen Walker and Scott Mednick.

The script is by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol).

Paramount has set a June 6, 2014, release for Ninja Turtles.
I find it interesting that they're keeping his role secret. Hmm....it’s almost as though Paramount don't want people to know for some reason. Maybe because it might cause a PR nightmare? I just keep on hearing the name Colonel Schrader in my head. I hope I'm wrong.

I can't really remember much of the leaked script. Is there any other role he could be playing?

zkarlette 04-02-2013 05:24 PM

He'll play Vernon.

TMNT is cooler than MOTU 04-02-2013 05:30 PM

$5 says he's Colonel Shraeder.

voltron80 04-02-2013 06:17 PM

I'm guessing he's playing April's over the top wacky boss. But I rather wait and see a trailer or at least a story outline before making a judgement on the movie. After all it seems the Teenage Mutant part of the title is back.

This is what I was gonna say. Aaaaand I hope we're wrong.

The Stryker 04-02-2013 06:42 PM

This is the first piece of news that has actually worried me.

NOW I can easily imagine some classic 'Bay Humor' getting in. It's kind of a thing to cast some unfunny actor and just plop him into an action movie so he can do quirky things.

Atleast it's not Ken Jeong.

It's really not a prospect I had considered, in the past. But I suppose such a character is a sure thing.

But I'd rather him serve that purpose than to play some goofy, bumbling Schrader...

Roseangelo 04-02-2013 07:05 PM

I like Arnett, but he's really not the type I would have pegged for this movie. But I suppose anything's possible since the Megan Fox announcement.

zodiac brave 04-02-2013 07:16 PM

this is good news, at least he'll be there to make some funny.

initially, i woulda been weary about casting him in this, but since the flick's ass up anyway...

and stryker...you're an ass most of the time, but you're also usually on point. you being in the pro-fox camp and saying THIS worries you...

check your head, bruh.

Colonel Schrader 04-02-2013 07:46 PM

great news!!

the dude is funny as hell and would be a perfect match for Vernon!

*fingers crossed* he is not colonel schrader! lol

Shark_Blade 04-02-2013 08:22 PM

Maybe Shredder in this movie will be comedic? *shudder*

TheCanadiandrome 04-02-2013 08:32 PM

interesting casting choice

Raven 04-02-2013 08:42 PM

I have this horrible feeling in the back of my mind that he's going to be the Shredder.

Shudders in horrible denial*

Andrew NDB 04-02-2013 08:45 PM

Pretty much whoever wins the "Who is he playing in the movie?" quandry... we all lose.

CyberCubed 04-02-2013 08:54 PM

A non-Japanese Shredder with alien Turtles makes me think they're purposely going out of their way to make the worst Turtles movie possible.

It's because I don't think Fox is all that bad and has improved since the first Transformers. She was far from the worst thing in those films too.

Lame comedy though? That always stops these kinds of movies in their tracks. I thought Transformers 3 was alright but the Ken Jeong stuff in the beginning was absolutely awful. Same thing with the weed brownie scene in Transformers 2. It's like it takes a detour from stupid action-town into awkward stupid comedy-town and it doesn't leave for like 20 minutes.

Andrew NDB 04-02-2013 10:04 PM

My guess: Krang.

Exactly...

The only win I see in this movie is another chapter in the storied Turtles history.

Will Arnett is a casting dice roll by Bay and Co.

Mr De Niro does NOT approve

These guys... these f$&!@#$ guys come in here and $%&%* wit' the Turtles?

sgtfbomb 04-02-2013 10:20 PM

Could he just be playing a news anchor at April's station? I don't think that was a character in the leaked screenplay (which is most likely outdated anyway), but that's a role I can easily see Arnett playing.

I agree. It didn't bother me so much in the first Transformers movie, but the sequels were pretty bad with this. For me, it stopped the films dead in their tracks. I also could have done without the scene where Sam is supposed to be running after his girlfriend because he knows she's in danger, but instead has a lengthy conversation with his parents about love.

chrisdude 04-02-2013 10:27 PM

Not just the goofy scenes, but the characters, too. They're like, "It's been 20 minutes. We need a laugh. Find somebody and jam him in."

Anthony Anderson played the goofy, 'in over his head' hacker guy from Transformers, who was obviously just jammed-in comedic relief. Then there was the other goofy, 'in over his head' hacker guy who was along for the ride Transformers 2. I don't even know who that was. Then, in Transformers 3, you had Ken Jeong playing the, um... goofy... 'in over his head' hacker guy... :teek:

CyberCubed 04-02-2013 10:44 PM

I doubt he's playing Vernon, which is the only character he could pass as.

Galactus 04-02-2013 10:47 PM

I'm guessing he's Splinter.

chrisdude 04-02-2013 10:58 PM

If he is just some comic relief character, Vernon would be a perfect role to allow him to tag along with April and be scared, like Sam's roommate from Transformers 2. But The Hollywood Reporter (the site that broke the news) said it's a lead role, so that's probably out.

I just don't want a goofball Shredder/Schrader...

Vivi 04-02-2013 11:09 PM

He may play Baxter if they're going for the old toon type characters.

Colonel Schrader 04-03-2013 03:00 AM

Yeah, i can see him as baxter, even as the rat king..

Or maybe there will be like 100's of him, and he is the humanoid krang body, just like the nick show.. He could even talk funny like them. He does have that kinda voice.

Master Splinter 04-03-2013 07:22 AM

This could be interesting.

Xav 04-03-2013 07:58 AM

He's Bishop.

miru 04-03-2013 08:23 AM

He's Dogpound.

Fourcylinder 04-03-2013 08:30 AM

Unfortunate

Judging by the fact that every actor they announce seems like a bad choice for any role in this movie, I certainly don't think it matters who he plays. Heck, he might as well do the motion capture for all four turtles. I really want this to be a passable movie but my hopes are not high.

Colonel Schrader 04-03-2013 08:37 AM

he is my mom.

Darth Knuckles 04-03-2013 09:22 AM

At first I thought "Oh crap! Casey Jones?" But one site/report claims he is not playing Casey Jones. So then I thought Baxter Stockman and that kind of makes sense. After that I thought he'd be perfect for Vernon! I hope that's who he's playing but it does say he's a lead character. Vernon could be a lead character if, like someone already suggested, he tags along with April a lot.

I don't think it's official yet but I do hope that April is a t.v. reporter for this new movie. To me it just makes more sense that that would be a reason as to why a human would want to hang around with four mutated turtles in the beginning. April as a reporter would want to so she could break the new story or possibly save lives. By going through that experience she realizes that the turtles are cool and fun to be with. :tgrin:

Half Sh3ll Hero 04-03-2013 10:29 AM

You guys got it all wrong! He's playing Master Splinter!

Lol is Splinter even slated as a character in this new movie?

Bob 04-03-2013 10:45 AM

I didn’t even know this guy was a comedic actor. So I suppose that discounts one of the villains. I don’t seem to recall Colonel Schrader cracking any jokes in the leaked script.

CyberCubed 04-03-2013 11:03 AM

Perhaps Rocksteady?

sgtfbomb 04-03-2013 12:26 PM

He could be Bebop or Rocksteady. I forget they were in the script.

CyberCubed 04-03-2013 01:02 PM

He better not be Bebop since he's not black.

Ville Leskinen 04-03-2013 01:13 PM

Perhaps he's Casey Jones? :D:lol:
